Hi weβre the Animal Justice Party Macquarie & Blue Mountains Regional Group! π¦ It will give a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves.
The Animal Justice Party has been formed as a response to growing public concern about the neglect of animals and animal protection issues by political parties. It will provide a focal point for voters frustrated by the lack of political action and who feel strongly that much more needs to be done through our parliamentary systems to assist the wellbeing of animals. There is a need for laws and pr

PASSED! We passed a motion to keep shark nets out of the water - meaning we are closer than ever to an end to shark nets. I've taken this issue all the way to the top in NSW Parliament and we know we have the support of several powerful players within NSW Labor to stop the nets going back in.
Lifeguards save lives - shark nets kill. Getting rid of these nets is an obvious decision, and so many were surprised when the Labor Government put them back in for another season in 2023. We can't let this happen again.
The motion was supported by the Government - and while the National Party sought to water down our motion, the rest of the House stood against them.
Our motion was passed moments after an event we hosted in Parliament with advocacy groups HSI and Australian Marine Conservation Society, attended by MP's across the political spectrum. There is huge support for these nets to stay OUT of beaches across NSW. Why? Because shark nets do nothing to stop people being killed while at the same time indiscriminately killing marine life. They are cruel and unnecessary.
Image here taken when I was in the US with awesome shark advocate Paul de Gelder - Paul's handsome face came up in a short documentary shown at the Parliamentary event and as I've been doing the rounds talking to MPs about shark nets Paul's name keeps coming up - they love you here Paul! And a massive thank you for all you do for sharks! π¦

As Emma Hurst writes - 'WATCH THIS SPACE' - for information on getting your submission in!
BREAKING: An inquiry that will consider animal welfare in the horseracing industry is now underway- and I am confirmed as Deputy Chair.
Submissions will open soon- watch this space!
The horse racing industry has money, power and secrecy on their side. But the animals have you. They have people who will stand up and speak out against abuse and in this numbers game, it is you that will ensure the animals gain freedom. Now we will get to be their voice, and together we have a chance to change the world. π΄
Nowhere is safe for them
Shooters are everywhere.
In every state. In every region.
Even ours π
Every night across NSW, the peace of the bush is broken with the sound of gunshots.
Kangaroo families, once grazing peacefully, are ripped apart in terror by the commercial industry. Mothers are struck down - leaving joeys behind, defenseless and hungry.
Those who are hit but not killed suffer in the darkness, alone and afraid.
Kangaroos are a vital part of Australia's ecosystem, not targets.
We must protect our kangaroos and coexist with nature.
Please share this with anyone you know, about to buy or adopt a dog.
Unfortunately people WANT certain breeds sometimes, even though they aren't suited to climate or conditions
The dogs just don't cope.
They end up in the cruel circle of pounds and rehoming - just to ultimately die anyway.
Have a read. Challenge what you think you know βοΈ
Everyone who is thinking of getting dogs should read this because you need to understand this reality:
***I am a 21st century dog.***
-I'm a Malinois.
Overskilled among dogs, I excel in all disciplines and I'm always ready to work: I NEED to work.
But nowadays I get asked to chill on the couch all day everyday.
-I am an Akita Inu.
My ancestors were selected for dog fighting.
Today I get asked to be tolerant and I get scolded for my reactivity when another approaches me.
-I am a Beagle.
When I chase my prey, I raise my voice so the hunters could follow.
Today they put an electric collar on me to shut up, and you make me come back to you - no running - with a snap of your fingers.
-I am a Yorkshire Terrier.
I was a terrifying rat hunter in English mines.
Today they think I can't use my legs and they always hold me in their arms.
-I'm a Labrador Retriever.
My vision of happiness is a dive into a pond to bring back the duck he shot to my master.
Today you forget I'm a walking, running, swimming dog; as a result I'm fat, made to stay indoors, and to babysit.
-I am a Jack Russell.
I can take on a fox, a mean badger, and a rat bigger than me in his den.
Today I get scolded for my character and high energy, and forced to turn into a quiet living room dog.
-I am a Siberian Husky.
Experienced the great, wide open spaces of Northern Europe, where I could drag sleds for long distances at impressive speeds.
Today I only have the walls of the house or small garden as a horizon, and the holes I dig in the ground just to release energy and frustration, trying to stay sane.
-I am a border collie
I was made to work hours a day in partnershipwith my master, and I am an unmistakable artist of working with the herd.
Today they are mad at me because, for lack of sheep, I try to check bikes, cars, children in the house and everything in motion.
I am ...
I am a 21st century dog.
I'm pretty, I'm alert, I'm obedient, I stay in a bag...but I'm also an individual who, from centuries of training, needs to express my instincts, and I am *not* suited for the sedentary life you'd want me to lead.
Spending eight hours a day alone in the house or in the garden - with no work and no one to play or run with, seeing you for a short time in the evening when you get home, and only getting a small toilet walk will make me deeply unhappy.
I'll express it by barking all day, turning your yard into a minefield, doing my needs indoors, being unmanageable the rare times I'll find myself outside, and sometimes spending my days sunk, sad, lonely, and depressed, on my pillow.
You may think that I should be happy to be able to enjoy all this comfort while you go to work, but actually Iβll be exhausted and frustrated, because this is absolutely NOT what I'm meant to do, or what I need to be doing.
If you love me, if you've always dreamed of me, if my beautiful blue eyes or my athletic look make you want me, but you can't give me a real dog's life, a life that's really worth living according to my breed, and if you can't offer me the job that my genes are asking, DO NOT buy or adopt me!
If you like the way I look but aren't willing to accept my temperament, gifts, and traits derived from long genetic selection, and you think you can change them with only your good will, then DO NOT BUY OR ADOPT ME.
Iβm a dog from the 21st century, yes, but deep inside me, the one who fought, the one who hunted, the one who pulled sleds, the one who guided and protected a herd still lives within.
So think **very** carefully before you choose your dog. And think about getting two, rather than one, so I won't be so very lonely waiting for you all day. Eight or ten hours is just a workday to you, but it's an eternity for me to be alone.

πβοΈ As NSW swelters in a heatwave, we can take action to help our wildlife.
π¦π¦ Leave out bowls of water in your yard or nearby areas to ensure our furry, feathered and reptie friends stay hydrated.
π΅π§ Small actions can make a big difference in the scorching heat. Make sure to leave some sticks in the bowl so lizards and frogs can get out if they accidentally fall in!
