Their charity Be Hers supports shelters, employment, vocational and educational training, sewing centres, legal support and rescues.

Attackers try to rip headscarfs from Hobart mother and daughter Hazara women Zahra Anvari and Gol Nazari settled in Tasmania as refugees seven years ago after decades of persecution. But after a violent incident, the day-to-day fear of discrimination continues.

Really excited to be launching the Be Hers Dream Again mentor program next week. It's incredible to have some of the women who have worked in the sewing centre now being employed to lead the program! Having women with lived experience empowering other women from a refugee background to reach their goals is a beautiful thing!

This we want to highlight the amazing resilience and courage of the women we have been blessed to work alongside through the Be Hers social enterprise, Dream Free.

These women have overcome war and migration, lost loved ones, lost their homes and their culture and have had to learn so much in a new country while trying to secure visas, make an income, learn a new language, find a new home not to mention working through trauma and loneliness and the ever real threat of exploitation.

We continue to stand with refugees, not just through our social enterprise and mentor and employment programs, but through helping to find and fund legal support to try and reunite families who are in immediate danger and have been separated.

Your support of the Be Hers Foundation has helped support women from Afghanistan, refugees fleeing to safety in Ukraine and previously through efforts in Iran to keep refugees safe from human traffickers.

If you are passionate to help, we are currently taking tax-deductible donations to help fund legal aid for refugees from Afghanistan. When making a donation, just write “Afghan Appeal” in the notes and we will make sure it goes directly to this.

We were SO excited when we heard this discussed on the radio yesterday morning. This change is needed! Through our various sewing programs we have heard countless stories of migrant women being exploited right here in Hobart.
