Incongruity
You looked lost, yet self assured all at once,
Trying so hard to be part of it all.
But you weren’t were you?
You’d spent a lifetime eschewing convention,
Whilst trying to fit in - you didn’t.
Soft but flint hard, a mass of contradiction.
I loved you for it and it destroyed me.
And in the mist of time
My thoughts always stray back to you.
The only face I looked for in crowds - you weren’t there.
I now wonder if you ever really existed at all.
A realistic phantasm,
You are the death of an idea.
I still bear your fingerprints on my soul.
Evidence of some crime scene, bloodied and broken exsanguinated in the dust.
Unloved and unloving you’ll always be free in the cage of your thoughts.
A contradiction.
