Women’s Health Physio aligned and supported. All classes are pelvic floor safe and low impact.

What do you enjoy most about the STRONGWOMEN classes?
I most enjoy that women of all ages, at all stages of life, are welcomed and catered for. I also appreciate the provision of individualised options and variations which ensure that all participants are able to optimise their experience.
Why do you choose to participate in group exercise?
I love the social aspect of group exercise, sharing common goals and forming new friendships. I also appreciate the increased level of motivation generated by being part of a group.
Do you have a favourite cardio machine or exercise?
Not really. I like to mix things up, and the classes do exactly that. Sarah’s focus on cardio, core and strength delivers a perfect program.

As part of the 8-week MumSTRONG program, I meet face to face with every mum client for a 1:1 consult.
Spending time before the program gets started to put a face to a name, helps break down any barriers and provides time to address any concerns ✨
What do we talk about?
We take a deep dive into pregnancy, life before pregnancy and the journey to conceiving if that was tricky. We then turn our attention to the birth story including mode of delivery (vaginal, caesarean, assisted (forceps etc), intervention and tears) and discuss any ongoing symptoms and pain.
This 30-minute chat is invaluable and helps put the clients mind at ease and gives me the opportunity to really understand the needs of the individual; physically, mentally and emotionally.
It’s a busy time but I love it!

If you haven’t worked it out yet, 2024 is the year for me 👏🏼
I’ve been a mum for 19 years now 😬 and in this time I have put my husband’s career and my kids first. I don’t regret my decision. It was something that my husband and I spoke about at length. It was definitely unavoidable for a long time, particularly while we were living interstate.
But those days are long gone. Our kids are big now and I’m still putting myself last 🤔 Why is this?
Partly it’s because of my nature. I’m a pretty calm, easy going character but more so, for most of my adult life I’ve always been Andy’s wife or the kids mum. I’d really lost my identity. This needed to change, so it did 👏🏼
So far this year I’ve headed away with the TAS Women’s Masters O40s team to Sydney; coming back with a silver medal after a fantastic tournament, surrounded by a group of awesome women 🫶🏻
Going to Sydney was the eye opener I needed. For 12 days I was “Sarah” and it was so LIBERATING!
Today, I participated in my first ever trial run and trail run event and prior to this I have been attending ParkRun and playing club hockey again.
It’s really put a fire in my belly to continue focusing on me (finally)! I don’t want to look back in years to come with regrets, wondering why I didn’t implement change.
If you are reading this and you are a new mum, please be a little more selfish than I was. If you are a seasoned mum with teenagers and this post hits home, please make change. You deserve it and it can be done 🤸🏻♂️
Remember that before you were a mum you were YOU, with your own interests. Be brave and find the confidence to jump back into whatever that may be. Give yourself permission to be YOU ♥️

It has been so rewarding working with Alarna and helping guide her on her return to exercise journey postpartum. I loved how eager Alarna was to learn; to fully understand how her body had changed and what impact this had on her exercise aspirations going forward. Watching her strength and confidence grow each week has been a highlight!
I admit that I also learnt a lot from my time working with Alarna and I thank her for this 🙏🏼
I think as fitness professionals, particularly those working with women, we need to consistently listen to our clients, be willing to question ourselves and the way we are programming or teaching and be open to making change where necessary.
By doing this, we can be confident that the service we are providing is always relevant, appropriate and delivered in a way that is clear and instantly helpful (to the bleary-eyed mum) ………… and if we don’t know the answer, we attempt to find out or refer on 🗒️
Working with postpartum women is a privilege and something I do not take for granted. As fitness professionals it is our job to ensure that we are providing suitable pathways for all women to exercise safely and successfully.

I’m a planner 🗒️ For about 15 years now we have been planning our meals for the week every Saturday, shopping for meat and veg and then I do a Woolies online order to arrive every Monday or Tuesday for other stuff.
Planning saved my sanity!
15 years ago I had three little kids under 5, we were living in a state where we didn’t have any family and only a handful of new friends.
What to feed the kids, myself and husband every day was stressful. It used to kill me 😬
My husband worked really long hours at the time, he was never home for dinner, so it was just the kids and I. Something had to change!
We decided to start planning our meals for the week and haven’t stopped. It’s a life safer!

I had such an incredible time in Sydney with the Tasmanian over 40s masters hockey team. Such a wonderful group of talented, determined, encouraging and supportive women 🫶🏻

Why are all my programs and classes child-friendly?
Truth is, I was the mum with four little kids hanging off me. Wherever I was, they were with me 🤪 When three of my children were babies/toddlers we lived on the mainland so support was minimal to none.
There were gyms with crèches around but I didn’t want to pop them in a creche so I could exercise and financially this wasn’t an option.
On our return to Hobart in 2012 and after the arrival of our fourth bub, I was very keen to start exercising again to feel strong and to be pain free.
After a quick online search I discovered that child-friendly gyms were still not a thing and fitness professionals with any Women’s Health qualifications were also non existent.
Fast forward 6 years and through the creation of MumSTRONG and STRONGWOMEN. fitness Lindisfarne - women now have the choice to exercise with their children in tow under the guidance of a qualified MumSafe™ Trainer.
By allowing children in class I am not only making exercise more accessible to women but I’m also showing children how capable, strong and confident the women in their lives are 🏋🏻♀️ These women are remarkable, multitasking role models and our children are in turn learning to love and value movement 🤸🏻♂️
Exercise with kids does look different (I’m not going to lie) but it is possible (and it’s lots of fun).

The MumSTRONG 8-week program is designed to bridge the gap between women having children and returning to exercise - safely and successfully.
Gone are the days where women simply jump back into the gym, preferred sport of choice or return to running without any guidance or support.
With the support of Obstetricians, Women’s Health Physiotherapist and specialised Pre | Post Natal Fitness Professionals women are becoming far more aware that there is a much better, safer and more effective way to return to regular exercise correctly and successfully!
Every woman’s journey to motherhood will look very different and everyone’s return to exercise journey will also look very different BUT the PATHWAY to returning to exercise will be the same.
Return to Exercise Check List:
- Receive the medical 6-week check. This is NOT an automatic tick of approval to return to your pre pregnancy exercise program. This is simply your specialist or medical professional signing off their ongoing care of you.
- Book an appointment with a Women’s Health Physio for a full pelvic floor and abdominal assessment (if we aren’t assessing, we are just guessing)!
- Find a qualified Pre | Post Natal Fitness Professional or MumSafe™ Trainer in your area (being very aware that the majority of Fitness Professionals/Franchises do not hold these qualifications).
- Give your body time to heal. There is no rush!
MumSTRONG guides you through a progressive program that is tried and tested by 100s of Hobart mums. You will be educated, you will feel stronger and you will feel more connected.

Meredith has been training with me for quite a few years now. Meredith reminds me of myself (when my children were little), wherever she is, the kids are with her. To be honest, this is the reason why all my programs and classes are baby and child friendly. It allows more mums the opportunity to access exercise.

I enjoy the tailored exercises for every individual but mostly the help to support all of us who have had children ☺️
Why do you choose to participate in structured exercise?
I definitely work better in a structured exercise class amongst others. It keeps me determined and focused around all the chaos of parenthood.
Do you have a favourite cardio machine or type of exercise? My favourite cardio machine would be the Bike and I enjoy any weighted strength exercises as I don’t get much of an opportunity to work on my upper body strength outside the gym 💪🏼

I have 28 mums commencing their return to exercise journey next week across three different locations!
I’m super excited to educate these women about their changing bodies and to work through a phased approach to improve their strength and fitness making life in general easier and their transition back to structured exercise, sport or running seamless, successful, pain and symptom free!
Returning to exercise following childbirth is so much more than chucking on your sneakers and heading out the door, it needs to be done safely, effectively and with intention. Same applies to exercising throughout pregnancy.
The long term benefits of retuning to exercise appropriately, under the guidance of a Women’s Health Physio and qualified pre and post natal coach are undeniable.
Rehabilitating (or protecting in the case of the pregnant women) the pelvic floor, abdominals and learning to correctly coordinate the entire core canister with the breath is the game changer in a successful postpartum recovery.
Do the work now and reap the rewards in the long run. Jump back too quickly and you could find yourself playing catch up for many, many years to come!

I get asked this question all the time so I thought I’d clarify a few things 🤸🏻♂️
The MumSTRONG 8-week return to exercise program was created by me a qualified Pre | Post Natal MumSafe™ Trainer over 4 years ago to provide women with a clearer pathway when returning to exercise after having children 🏃🏻♀️
At the time I was seeing too many women returning to regular gym classes (or starting their exercise journey) without having completed a rebuilding phase. They were essentially jumping into exercise unknowing that there was a much better way!
Pregnancy and birth is MASSIVE, yet society continues to tell women to just get on with life and to return to the gym and sport with very little guidance or support (often causing more harm than good).
We can do better!
The MumSTRONG program is here to bridge the gap between having a baby (whether that was last week, last year or 6 years ago) and starting or returning to exercise 💪🏼
MumSTRONG is about educating women so they can make the right decisions about their body and how it should move. It is about rebuilding strength making daily activities much easier and a return to the gym, running or sport successful and injury free!
MumSTRONG is also about creating a space for women to feel supported on their motherhood journey; because being a mum is the hardest, most fulfilling and exhausting, emotional rollercoaster you will ever be on and having likeminded people to share the ups and downs with is invaluable ♥️

The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) recommends that all women (or those AFAB) in pregnancy have access to a physiotherapist consultation during and after birth as part of routine care to screen for and help manage a wide range of conditions including urinary incontinence, faecal incontinence, pelvic girdle pain, abdominal muscle separation and symptoms of prolapse.
If you are keen to return to exercise after 6 weeks (post birth), make sure this starts with low impact exercise (Ie stretching, walking and yoga), and when possible always aim to see a Womens Health Physiotherapist OR MumSafe trainer prior to beginning this process.
Not everyone can or should exercise in the months following a birth, and doing this with professional support will ensure you have the best chance of a healthy and strong body longer term.
I can’t recommend Sarah’s MumSTRONG program enough. After a tough pregnancy and an emergency c-section, I lost a lot of muscle tone and confidence. My body seemed to forget how to be strong. I can now feel my core engage again (maybe more than before?!) and I know I’m capable of being strong and functional again. It was also a joy to see other fantastic mums and very cute bubs weekly. Thank you Sarah!

My name is Sarah and I love living in Tasmania. I am a mum to four children and wife to an amazing man that knows the way to my heart is through my stomach. He’s a true keeper!
After having my forth child and returning to exercise myself, it became obvious to me the lack of specialised and qualified women's fitness trainers. I saw this as an opportunity to help not only mums but women in general to understand their bodies better, feel good about themselves and to safely return to exercise.
MY GOAL:
I want to help women to feel strong! I want to help women find ways to prioritise their own health + wellbeing.
