Strong Starts has two programs developed to support you though the whole journey to motherhood!
Prenatal - Empower
Fun group classes including exercise to help keep you healthy, feeling strong, and ready for labour, as well as childbirth and early parenting education.
Postnatal - Rebuild
Work through a progressive program to heal your body and build you back to a safe return to exercise alongside other new mums in a supportive and welcoming environment.

As a new mum, it can be extremely confusing as to what, when and how to begin being active again. We get told, βDonβt do anything until you have your 6 week checkβ....but then whatβ¦.you can suddenly run a 5km again, deadlift your previous PB, join in a local HIIT classβ¦.??? π€ΈπποΈ
The problem with the 6 week doctor's clearance is there is no guidance on how to build back up to your previous ability, and everyone is individual and on very different timelines.
There is no magic moment at 6 weeks postpartum where suddenly all your abdominal muscles have come back together, your pelvic floor muscles have regained all their tone and your body is free of relaxinβ¦.its important that we acknowledge some people will be ready to start some pelvic floor work at only a few weeks postpartum, where as some won't be ready to return to any exercise before 12 weeks! ποΈποΈποΈ
There is very little, if any, routine care provided for the mother to ensure her pelvic floor recovery is healing adequately. There is a high chance she wonβt even be physically examined, unless she seeks professional help, and letβs be honest, who's going out of their way to make ANOTHER doctors appointment when you have a newborn, unless something is drastically wrong.π§ββοΈπ§ββοΈπ§ββοΈ
At her 6 week doctors appointment, she may get asked a few basic questions, and if her answers are satisfactory, she will get the green tick to return to exercise but is left unsure as to what that even means! For some eager ladies, they will want to jump straight back to where they were a year ago which could put their bodies at risk of serious injury. Whereas some may be nervous about not knowing what they should and shouldn't do, so will just avoid it all.. π€·π€·π€·
While i cant change the routine care women receive post parturm, i can make some recommendations of what to do to ensure your recovery and return to exercise is as smooth and safe as possible!
No 1, I highly recommend seeing a women's health physio, there are a few great private practices in Hobart, Rachel Andrews being one, or there are physios available through the public system at the Royal. Be proactive, and during your pregnancy, book yourself an appointment for around 6 weeks post partum, so you have the booking there, and don't have to worry about waitlists! πππ
No 2, find a Postpartum return to exercise guide to follow, a trainer who specialises in postpartum or join our Strong Starts - Rebuild Program πͺπͺπͺ
No. 3 Listen to your body! Go slow, ease in and respect that your body just grew and birthed a human! Its going to need some time, and loving, to return back to its previous condition π’π’π’
No 4. Donβt feel the pressure to loose the extra baby weight instantly, give yourself some slack, you have much higher priorities at the moment, like fueling your body so you can fuel your baby! Move your body for enjoyment, for stress relief, for the endorphins, for feeling good, for the βme timeβ and the rest will come β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ

After having to take 2 months off training due to morning sickness in my first trimester of pregnancy, I'm finally back in the gym and able to move my body again! π€Έπ€Έπ€Έ
It's a very different experience, and I could choose to be frustrated at how unfit I feel and how I can't lift weights or perform movements I used to...
However instead, I'm learning to listen to my body, pace workouts so I am not drained of energy, choose movements I can control well, and weights that aren't going to put to much strain on my ever changing body. π€°π€°π€°
No matter what your body is going through, be kind to yourself and just enjoy how great moving your body can make you feel! π―π―π―

Just wanted to say how proud i am of all my clients who have kept up with training during this tough time. β€οΈ
There were plenty of potential excuses, but instead everyone made the conscious decision to focus on importance of exercise to their physical and mental health and embrace this new way of training and the benefits that they could get out of it. π€©
I have clients who's have suddenly becoming teachers on top of parents and workers, who are working on the front line doing crazy hours, who's lives got turned upside down, but rather than put training to the side, and giving up, they have put in their best effort, for some that was just getting regular movement in, for some it was keeping up the habit of regularly training and for some it was an opportunity to push themselves to the next level π€π€
They have reached a place where exercise is no longer another chore on the long list of things we have to do, but a chance to spend some quality 'me time', a chance to work out frustrations, a chance to have some fun and a chance to do something that makes you feel great, inside and out :) βοΈ
I'm excited to be able to start training some people face to face and in small groups next week, but thrilled with how we, as a community have thrived through this time and will continue to, over the next weeks and months as things slowly become more normal. I am confident that each and everyone of you will come out on the other side stronger and more empowered than ever πͺ

During this crazy time, i believe its more important than ever to be prioritizing both, and certainly its not the time to be putting exercise on the back burner.
For so many people, exercise is their escape, their stress reliever and energy booster, its a chance to hang out with friends and feel good about themselves.

Therefore, Lift Fit are doing everything we can to ensure that people can continue their healthy habits and experience a sense of routine, in this unusual time.

Sooo what are we actually doing??

Currently, we have a huge focus on hygiene in our sessions, i swear, our gym must be one of the most sanitized places in Hobart!
In groups, Katie has changed her programming to ensure social distancing is achievable, and limit the sharing of equipment.

We are also setting plans in place as to how we are able to keep our clients, and other Anytime Fitness Gym Members moving, if the gym is required to close.
The option to train outdoors will be considered if health, safety and weather all permit.

We are also creating an Online Coaching Program to be able to deliver individual programs to do at home, coaching and accountability through an online platform if it is necessary for further social isolation!

In the mean time, we encourage people to be prepared to adapt, and make the necessary changes to their lifestyle, but not panic.
And to keep in mind, for some people, this might be an incredibly tough time, make sure you check in with friends and family, spread love and kindness as much as possible!
We may have to keep our distances, but a smile or friendly word towards a stranger can have the power to change their day!
