UTAS Chekov Workshop Free
Wonderful opportunity to join a workshop with Dr Bagryana Popov!
An Embodied Approach to Chekov
A workshop on text from Chekhov’s plays focusing on the body, play and improvisation, through an approach developed by Bagryana Popov over 10 years.
The plays of Anton Chekhov capture life in all its absurdity, complexity and beauty. The characters are three-dimensional, living in a particular time and place. People are shown
with humour, love and compassion. No-one ever seems to get what they want, but they try.
Chekhov’s text is a gift to the actor. Each role presents an opportunity and a challenge:
it demands life, honesty and detail.
In this workshop actors will work on a monologue of their choice from a Chekhov play.
We will work on the text focusing on the embodied responses and live presence of the actors in the room.
We will approach the text through exercises to bring the text to life, working on:
Personal connection to the text
Given circumstances
Physical gesture and inner dynamics
Presence
Playfulness
What to bring:
Comfortable rehearsal clothes
A writing book, pen and pencil
Two printed copies of your monologue
A water bottle and snack

Art of Comedic Acting - A Masterclass with Darren Gilshenan

Acting True is exceptionally excited to welcome back comedy master Darren Gilshenan.

Some people intuitively have funny bones, others not so but Comedy is a skill that can be taught! Peoples greatest fear is “what if they don’t laugh?”

Darren has been specialising in deconstructing the elements of comedy acting for many years and has developed courses using various tools and principles to help you get that laugh.

Tension, Contrast, Illogical transitions, Rhythm, Opposition and Extension are just some of the ingredients that live within the girth of comedy. Its a complex form but once understood ,through practice, becomes intuitive.

This weekend intensive will open your mind and give you the confidence to find the funny in your work. It will give you practical tools to bring to scene work, monologues and the rehearsal processes and allot of fun will be had along the way.
