CHICKEN KATSU SANDO // this is just a compact flavor sensation. If you haven’t had one, I’m jealous. It’s like when you tell your friend about this amazing TV series and they haven’t seen it and you get jealous because you remember how good you felt the first time you watched it. I’m talking about Yellow Stone people. And this sandwich is Beth… 🤯🤩🖤

TAKE-AWAY MINI EGG & BACON ROLL // perfect to eat in the car on the way to work, this delight is like a big egg & bacon roll, except that it not as big. Something fun I like to do when I eat one is pretend it’s a regular size egg & bacon roll and that my hand a MASSIVE! I do the same with mini cans of soft drink. Regular size can, it’s just that my hands make the can look small. Good times. 👍

TURKISH EGGS // invented in 1653 by Prof R.J. Turkish, this 17th century traditional Fijian breakfast is a must try on a cold winters morning. 🖤

FRANK’S CHICKEN SANDWICH // a staple at Frank’s since day one, this toasted delight is simply a must have for non vegetarian sandwich lovers with brains 🖤

PORK BELLY BENEDICT // surprisingly, this dish has only 13 calories and is recommended by a whole bunch of unnamed heart specialists. In fact, I think I read an article once that most medical professionals say that the Frank’s Pork Belly Benedict is a MUST if you’re trying to lower your cholesterol and drop some unwanted kilo. Problem is, it tastes very, very bland. Like eating a cold lettuce 🤥

After 7.5 years at Frank’s & Levi, Chef Eli is officially hanging up the apron and taking some time off before he embarks on the next chapter for his life, becoming a Crypto Influencer…. 👨‍💻💱

We’ll post more on this and his journey with us tomorrow after his last service, but if you want to come and say farewell to Chef, Saturday will be his last service at Frank’s/Levi and I’m sure he’d appreciate the love.

The Frank’s Athletic Dept. is just going from strength to bloody strength, I tell ya what!!! who Frank’s has been supporting since 2018 (swipe to last photo) has just flown to Rock Hill, South Carolina 🇺🇸 to compete in the BMX World Championships and she’s gone and bloody won!! She’s the U13 BMX WORLD CHAMPION!!! 🏆

Maya - you’re a star. What you’ve done is absolutely massive and your hard work and dedication should be applauded. We’ve only helped a little here and there, but watching your journey is truly inspiring.

Well done, Champ!! 🔥🫡💪

So it’s Spencer’s last day tomorrow after 6 years (I think?) at Frank’s when he started as a dishy just out of school, and we’re doing free coffee tomorrow, details on how to get it below after my TedTalk.

Spencer’s last day has got us thinking that although it’s a pretty yucky time out in the big wide world at the minute, there’s still heaps of cool stuff happening and things to be grateful for.

The second picture of this post is not Spencer related, but a note we got dropped from Willow and Issac, the kids that set up a stand last week out the front of the Milkbar to sell home made earrings that they’d been making during school holidays. Their mum told me that they aimed to sell 1 pair and ended up selling 25, so they thought they’d give back a bit. Now you can’t tell me that that isn’t amazing, what’s better than that?! 🖤

Back to Spencer; this guy has been a “low maintenance” rock for not only Frank’s and his colleagues, but for me personally. He’s always stuck up his hand to help, always done what he could, gone out of his way to help people and reached out to me a number of times when he could sense I was having a s**t one, just to check in.

Spence is off to Canada chasing love (but secretly I know he rates himself as a top level ice hockey player), and we’re hopeful he’ll be back, although we’re not sure when, and I couldn’t be more grateful for having such a good person apart of my life for the past 6 years. 🖤

I know it’s rough out there at the minute, but we’re unbelievably bloody lucky to have the supportive customers, staff and community that we do, so even if you’re not a Frank’s regular customer or whatever, coffee is on us tomorrow through or app or website (just google Frank’s Cheltenham) and you can order ahead though the website and wack in the code “SPENCER” at check out for up to $7 off any purchase (also, if it doesn’t work you might have to sign in? I dunno, I’m not Bill Gates, but that should do it).

I know it’s only a free coffee, and even though we’ve never been less profitable (like the entire hospitality industry), it’s just something little we can do to hopefully brighten someone’s day and show to gratitude.

Despite tough economic conditions, high inflation and soaring costs, today you’ll find a new retail trader nextdoor to Frank’s out the front of the old Milkbar.

Willow, Issac and friends I’ve been reliably told are “Co-Owners” of “Cutie Earrings”, a boutique homemade jewelry brand that they’ve been working on since Christmas, and today is their first day of trade!!

They’re incredibly excited and nervous to see how their new business goes, so if you’re in the area, have a few spare dollars, want to support a few hard working young go-getters and don’t want to miss out of the next “big thing” in fashion, Cavanagh Street Cheltenham is the only place you need to be today.

They’ve been planning this for months, designing and making the piece and I just couldn’t love this any more. Open today only or until sold out.

Cheltenham’s worst kept secret is now official - the old Frank’s has been bought but it’s best ever employee and as one chapter closes and new one begins - please welcome….. 🥁

BRETT’S!!

Sure, Frank’s will be missed but Brett is ready to kick ass!! The signs gone up over the long weekend as many of you have seen, and we’ll be changing over all branding (including this dumb instagram handle 🙄) in the coming days. Thanks for all the support messages.

From Brett

Maddie and Marine are a couple of little “go-getters” that reached out to us (through their mum) to ask if we can help promote their bake sale.

They’ve put so much work into getting everything ready (including setting up to allow for card payments 😳) so if you’re around Cavanagh St please pop past Frank’s and they’re set up next door in front of the old milk bar.

It’s always so good to see kids having a crack and not just sitting on an iPad. They’ve come up with the idea, planned menu items, come up with a logo, typed it all up, printed it off and and then the scariest part, setting up and facing the first customers.

Good on you team!!! Your business career has begun 🚀

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! See you all next year on the 5th of Jan! 🎅🖤

Another amazing year draws to an end, a year that wouldn’t have been possible without our incredible staff and unbelievably supportive community and customers.

The last few years have been filled with highs and lows that can sometimes make you a bit numb to the good and bad. I’ll try and keep my self indulgent ‘Ted Talk’ to a minimum, but every now and then something wonderful happens that reminds you why we do what we do.

In October, we received a call to the shop from a gentleman named Brian. Brian got my number and called me, and I thought “Here we go… what have I stuffed up now?”

Brian explained to me that Frank’s was a silver lining for him during the dark days of the lockdowns, and not just the coffee or food, but the brief, friendly, upbeat chats with staff and fellow customers. Frank’s was a 5 minute holiday for him each day and something to genuinely look forward to.

Brian then explained that he was moving away, and insisted on sending us a 4 figure sum to pay for our Christmas party.

Obviously I was taken aback (someone must have been cutting onions closed by too as my eyes got really itchy too). And it was nothing to do with the generous amount donated, but the fact that Frank’s is a business that has created so much value in someone’s life that they would think to do that.

We exist by the good grace of our customers, and we don’t take it for granted. We don’t always get it right. Sometimes we’re slow on coffee, some times the eggs are over cooked, but we try and you stick with us while we do.

And this cost of living crisis is a real thing, we get it. I spoke to a regular customer the other week who’s been coming everyday since we opened and she apologized for not coming as often, as she simply couldn’t afford it. It made me said that she thought she owed me an apology for this! The pain is real, and we’re not the cheapest, I totally get it, but were nothing but honored to have your business in whatever capacity and at whatever frequency you choose in the future, and simply promise to keep the good times, good food and good coffee coming.

Enjoy the break, whatever that looks like for you and maybe 2024 be the year we all crush it. 🖤

After 7 years, Chef Eli is making moves… ⚡️

Franks opened 7 years ago next week with this guys at the helm from day one. In fact, before day one, when he helped me finish the construction of the shop and was on the tools and paint brushes.

It’s been a wild ride! Highs, lows and everything in between, and to say Eli has evolved and stepped up during that time would be an understatement.

With Head Chef Dom leaving Levi, Eli has stepped up to take over the Head Chef role at .melbourne as well as keeping a hand on the wheel at Frank’s, while Chef Sam runs the day-to-day. Eli has informed me that this specific role is called an “Executive Chef”. I call it “Superman”, and can honestly say the Eli IS Frank’s and it wouldn’t be the place it is today without him.

Once he’s settled in at Levi, he’ll be back a bit more at Frank’s, so you’ll still see him around.

Proud of you chef, and lucky to be in business with you. 🖤

The other week was our mate Sully’s 10th birthday! 🥳 Sully and his family have been coming to Frank’s since day one, so we’ve known Sully since he was 3! (This makes me feel so old 🤦‍♂️ 🤣)

The Frank’s crew pitched in and got him a band new pair of Jordan shoes, as he’s now right into his basketball 🏀🖤

There’s a few other photos in the post of the journey with Sully over the years. He and his mum are two off the best, most supportive people we’ve come across during our time at Frank’s, and it’s an absolute pleasure to sort Sully out with a fresh pair of Jays

Happy birthday Sully! Hope you like them. 🖤

The word “elevated” is starting to get used pretty loosely these days when it comes to restaurants. Not here. This is the best Benedict in Victoria, bar none…

I’m happy to be proven wrong, but I’m a chubby boi that loves a cheeky little Bene, and so far as I can tell, no one is coming close to doing what we’re doing when it comes to Eggs Benedict.

6 YEARS OF THE WALKING TEAM!!! 🖤

Today we celebrated 6 years of Friday morning walks, and whilst John Reid, our fearless leader and founder was supposed to get a driven to Frank’s by Peter (as he’s not long out of hospital with a new knee), the stubborn bull that he is at age 96 quietly left a bit early and walked by himself to meet us at Frank’s for breakfast!! 🤯

I know this because I busted him on his journey!! (See pic 2 🤣).

Whilst his daughter Julie assures me he’s in trouble, you have to admire the character of the man…

Anyway, happy 6th anniversary Walking Team, it’s a good day to have a good day 🌞 🖤

Shout out to .vs and for helping set up last night!!

⚠️COMPETITION⚠️ This is Max. Max is from .melbourne and offered to “help” at Frank’s today 🫠. Max dropped a tray of 5 coffees and what looks like a strawberry milkshake or some sort of berry smoothie. Max is still yet to tell me what happened, but we’re gonna help him out…

⚠️ Who ever can come up with the best, most far fetched, creative excuse on Max’s behalf will win breakfast for 2 people at either Frank’s or Levi. One entry per person.

will thank you later 🙃

Open Grand Final Day til 1ish for business as usual….

May the best team win!

John’s hospital visit was a success!! With a Frank’s gingerbread man, a new pacemaker and a fresh set of “getaway sticks” bolted on and turned up to 11, he reckons he could start on the bench for his mighty on the weekend!!
