Many of you will recognise some of these places from our book, Secrets of Calabrisella. It’s very hot here in Calabria today, with a slight whiff of volcanic ash in the air still. 😃 Thought I’d include some snaps of local dishes to this area. 🇮🇹⛱️🏝️🥰

With a direct view of Stromboli erupting today we are enjoying a very beautiful sunset albeit hazy skyline tonight. Spaghetti with fresh clams and mussels for dinner on the balcony. Another hot one tomorrow here in Calabria. 🇮🇹🔥⛱️🍹❤️

For those that loved a tartufo! The iconic chocolate icecream ball was first created in a small Calabrese town called Pizzo. The traditional ones (alot yummier than the mass produced ones) must have a gooey chocolate centre and be coated in cacao powder. Something we always look forward to when visiting Calabria! The taste is far superior and it will knock your socks off! 🇮🇹

🇮🇹Cannelloni Sunday! 🇮🇹. So easy and so delicious. Using fresh lasagna sheets is a quick and simple process. Mixing up spinach, ricotta, cooked chicken mince, garlic, seasoning, fresh parsley some breadcrumbs and an egg together and rolling up into tubes. Make a cheese sauce and a tomato sugo and voila! Bake with mozzarella on top! Mmmmmmm🍷🥰🇮🇹

Today is the feast day of Saint Lorenzo! Patron saint of chefs. 😊. Tonight, look up at the sky for magical shooting stars! 💫

⭐️🌠La Notte di San Lorenzo, also known as the Night of the Shooting Stars, is a magical night!⭐️🌠

On the night of August 10th, all eyes will be on the sky hoping to see a shooting star. This captivating celestial event takes place every year and is tied to the feast of San Lorenzo.

During this period, conditions are perfect for catching a glimpse of a shooting star. Many Italians will flock to beaches and hilltops to “esprimere un desiderio” (make a wish) on a falling star.

And guess what? If you don’t happen to catch a falling star tonight, don’t worry. Although this magical night traditionally takes place on August 10th, this year the meteor shower will reach its peak around August 13th.

The European summer has been hot hot hot !🔥 The Mediterranean has never looked more enticing! What’s been absolutely humbling is that so many local people here in Launceston have visited Italy these last few months from reading our book. The feedback has been incredible! Calabria is a location of unspoilt beauty. Away from the tourist hustle and bustle, with clear blue waters abound. An unlikely destination on an Italian itinerary, however more and more people I come across are bravely traversing the uninhibited southern regions. They thank me for suggesting the area, as it is more beautiful and less expensive. Perhaps a place to consider on your next Italian holiday? 🇮🇹❤️
