Got a stressed teen? Whether it's sitting the HSC or end of year exams or assignments this time of year can be stressful for our young people. Chris Hudson, a teen researcher, mentor and presenter has got some great tips for parents in his latest post "Helping Teens Manage Stress". Definitely worth a read.
Helping Teenagers Manage Stress - A Guide For Parents Dealing with a stressed Teenager? Here's a simple guide help you understand when your teen is stressed and how to help them.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese today announced a national ban on children using social media. Although there's no details about age restrictions and how it will be enforced, it's generated lots of conversations. No doubt it's a response to the growing body of research that shows some concerning trends regarding children and young people's social media use and declining mental and physical health. A report issued recently based on 19000 Australian families shows 39% of 10-12 year olds use TikTok for an average of 122 minutes a day. That's about 240 videos! Experts suggest this level of viewing can have negative impacts on children's ability to focus and concentrate regardless of whether the content is appropriate or not. It's certainly a good time for parents to be attentive to their child's social media access and usage. What are your thoughts? Is the government right to introduce a ban? What age do you think would be appropriate for kids to access social media?

Nature Play vs Plastic Fantastic - What's Best for Children?
A study by the University of South Australia into what type of play and play equipment benefits children most has found that the ideal play for development involves both play in manufactured environments and nature based play. Play in natural environments where children make mud pies, climb trees and build cubbies out of natural materials improves children's imaginative and social play skills. Active play on manufactured playground helps children develop agility and gross motor skills. So whether it's the local playground or a nearby nature reserve, get out there and play. All types of play help improve children's developmental outcomes.
