You can continue to work on your Childs fine motor skills over the Christmas period by getting them involved in Christmas activities that target their fine motor skills. Activities you can do from home
🎄Making Christmas ornaments out of play-dough
🎄Decorating Christmas cookies
🎄Building and decorating a gingerbread house
🎄Cutting snowflakes out of old Christmas cards or paper
🎄Candy cane fishing (tie a candy cane to string then use this candy cane to pick up others)
Are you always searching for a fun but educational App?
Here is our App Recommendation,
Also it comes in iPhone and iPad version 🙂
Cutting helps your child to build up the tiny muscles in the palm of their hand. These muscles are also used for writing and gripping things such as toothbrushes and cutlery.
Help strengthen these muscles by providing your child items that have a variety of textures, weights and thicknesses.
The Silver Porcupine team recommend full supervision of your child while they’re practising their cutting skills.
Silver Porcupine’s team of occupational therapists will come to you!
By observing how your child functions and behaves in their own environment (at home or school) our team can better implement strategies to best support their needs.
Get in touch with our friendly team to discuss how we can assist your child and family.
Looking for free and easy games to occupy your children this school holidays?
Keep your children busy with a scavenger hunt that requires no setup or organisation.
Is your child a fussy eater?
Consider these strategies to help prevent battles at mealtime:
Have your child help with meal prep:
Meal prep can help promote independence and provide a low-pressure environment around food. Your child may even want to ‘sneak a taste’ because they don’t feel pressured.
Eat ‘family style’ meals:
Eating food together as a family allows your child to see adults enjoying their food to help create a positive association with mealtimes.
Start a simple sticker reward chart for trying new foods:
Taking small bites or licking new foods will encourage your child to experience new food tastes and textures. Introducing a reward for trying new foods will reinforce positive food choices.
One of our favourite apps:
Monster Hunt
This free app is a cute and motivating visual memory game to help improve your child's visual memory skills.
Visual memory focuses on your child’s ability to recall visual information - this is a critical factor in developing their reading, spelling, and writing skills.
**Please note that Silver Porcupine only recommend a maximum total screen time of 1 hour a day for children under 10-years.**
