The 6th and 7th May saw teams competing in Mandurah Croquet & Recreation Club’s Annual ‘Golf Croquet ‘ C Grade Doubles competition.
Despite/the freezing conditions, and although highly ‘rugged up’ ( and seeming to disappear into the many layers of clothing) the players managed to produce croquet of a very high standard. The shot of the day, a seemingly impossible’in/off’, had those watching cheering in disbelief !
The volunteers in the kitchen kept the players and volunteers ‘fed and watered’ with delicious morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea which was very much appreciated by everyone on such a cold day.
Tournament organiser, Gayle , announced the winners …. From the Mandurah Club , Norma and Paddy.
Runners up were Inga and David From the Halls Head Club.
The visiting teams were very impressed, once more , at the high quality of the greens and the tournament’s smooth running. Thanks must go to Pat and volunteers for the grounds and Gayle for the smooth running of the days’ play.
Check out some photos of the tournament.
In perfect conditions, on Friday 31st March, the club house and surrounds were a sea of red and purple as 27 ‘Red Hat Ladies’ converged onto the greens to take part in a fun tournament. Even though some had not played before..or very much, there was some amazing shots zinging around the grass. There was much laughter and gentle teasing by all as club members helped score and keep things looking vaguely like a ‘proper’ croquet game. Afterwards the ladies enjoyed a lovely lunch prepared by some hardworking club members.
Check out some of the action here. There are some future champions in the making!

Friday 4th November saw a hotly contested Singles Tournament at The Mandurah Croquet Club. Perfect weather, coupled with the meticulous greens prepared once again by the ever amazing Pat, combined to allow some incredibly close games. Although the number of participants was down a bit, those that did play kept the spectator’s attention as the result went down to the wire. It was Susan who came out on top after a count back , putting Felicia in second place. Congratulations to all the participants for their fine efforts.
A big thank you must go to Gayle, who, once again put in a HUGE amount of time and effort to ensure the day went ultra smoothly.
Here are a few photos from the day….More to be added later as they come i
At our AGM held on the 18th October 2022, Club President Gayle McGovern stepped down from this role that she has held for over 6 years.
The Mandurah Croquet & Recreation Club would like to acknowledge the HUGE contribution Gayle has made, initially as a member and volunteer at the Club and as President from 2016. When she took over the Presidency, the Club was in dire need of organisation and direction. Meticulously Gayle put procedures in place to address the areas of concern. Her style of leadership was such that members saw her as a strong, compassionate, caring and very approachable leader who not only promoted the sport of Golf Croquet, but also fostered comradeship and friendship between members.
Gayle’s list of achievements are too many to mention but a few notable ones are: Hours spent updating the Constitution Club rules to comply with current legislation; Sourcing numerous grants and completing paperwork involved with any projects that were undertaken at the Club such as the addition of an accessible toilet, purchase and installation of a sea container, new all-weather shelters and awning for the club house and fixed outdoor seating. With the onset of Covid, Gayle implemented all the necessary health and safety controls so that the Club could continue to operate and ensured they were maintained to keep members safe.
Gayle is also the Tournament Manager and members and inter-club players alike are very appreciative of her professional management skills in running such competitive events. On the courts Gayle has a presence with her great croquet skills. She also assists with coaching new players and gives encouragement and advice to all members.
Gayle’s outstanding contribution to the Club was recognized by the committee and members and she was awarded Life Membership in 2018, an honour well deserved.
THANK YOU Gayle - for everything!!
The Mandurah Croquet & Recreation Club would like to announce and wish our new President Lois Kelly and her Committee every success. Gayle has offered to guide and support them in any way she can - they couldn’t ask for a better mentor!
The Mandurah Croquet Club hosted a Golf Croquet B Grade doubles Level Play tournament on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September. 12 teams from Halls Head, Belmont, Forrest Park, Gomme Park,Moorabinda, Sorrento, Como, Bunbury Central and Belmont took advantage of the beautiful weather and the result couldn’t have been closer.
It went down to the wire…the last game, between Albany and Halls Head decided the result. Albany needed a win to equal Halls Heads’ game count of 9 , which they did, and then won the tournament on a count back by 1 point!
The recent club upgrades were very much appreciated…the new patio and sun shelters peprovided welcome relief from the sun and the new bench seats were well used.
Check out some of the fun…
A great time was had by all at a recent visit to our Club by a group of students from the South Metro Tafe. We look forward to hosting them again in the near future. Special thanks to Sue for taking photos and for compiling this video.
