As humans we NEED touch. Itās not just a nice add-on in life. Itās essential to our wellbeing.
We are literally evolved to respond physiologically to safe touch. Research shows that skin to skin contact releases oxytocin (the love hormone) and reduces cortisol. Itās also been shown to improve heart rate variability and reduce blood pressure. In addition it activates the vagus nerve which brings us back into our parasympathetic nervous system - the rest and digest state.
I think itās a crying shame that for many people touch is only shared between intimate partners and children. Weāve forgotten the power, beauty and healing impact of touch - and that it is literally at our fingertips ALL of the time.
Our culture can have a tendency to lump touch outside of family into the realm of sexual intimacyā¦ It doesnāt have to be though! (Nor should we feel that sexual intimacy is the only way we can receive loving tough if weāre single or without children.)
Touch can communicate and express love without it being sexual. This is a POWERFUL gift to offer one another and I deeply wish for more of us to reclaim it.
Itās one of the reasons I feel so blessed and honoured to do the work I do. We are WIRED for connection and touch is a direct pathway to it. Simple, profound and deeply healing.
Itās an amazing act or reciprocity in action.

I know so many people who think that tightness and poor mobility are just āhow things areā for them.
I know so many people who think that an achey low back is just āthe normā and how it has to be.
Sometimes that might be the case. But often itās about finding movements and relaxation practices that can support your body to release.
Thai massage is one of them! And it can be sweet relief for the ātight and acheyā types out there.
The beauty of Thai massage is how we can work deeply - gently. People come away feeling like weāve āworked through thingsā and yet theyāre super relaxed.
My ability to use body weight means I can provide strong pressure without muscle or force - just gravityā¦ And as a receiver your body is less likely to protect or tense against this sort of massage.

Or perhaps youāve been practicing for a while and want to feel stronger in your practice - or want to know how to modify poses to work for you and your body.

A week offā¦ Life was getting ābitsyā and rushed; and I couldnāt hear the birds and insects sing. I was moving too fast for their harmony to catch me.
I was also moving too fast for the meaning in it all to land at my toes.
Iāve been wondering āwhat is it all forā? āWhere am I going?ā āWhat am I doing?ā āIs this enough?ā
Approaching 40 as a single woman with no kids is an interesting moment for me. āPurposeā isnāt something I can anchor around family or little ones. āWorthā isnāt something I can orient around a relationship. And āmeaningā (try as I might) doesnāt seem to burst forth from what I ādoā.
But of late, amidst all the questions, two words have been percolating to the surface.
Beauty.
And love.
And it seems these are my āwhyā.
Iām beginning to get curious what life would look like if I simply oriented toward these two words.
In fact, I think I already do - except when Iām rushing; except when Iām skimming the surface of life rather than sinking my toes in.
What if I devoted my days to being present to the beauty thatās here; to creating and sharing the beauty that I can?
What if I focused my attention on allowing the expression of love that is innate to me (and all of us)?
Our world; our society is structured in ways that make such things oddly revolutionary.
ā¦ To pause long enough to be with beauty.
ā¦To connect in ways that allow the expression of love.
I donāt quite know what life will look like if I make THIS the goal (rather than my business, or a relationship, or a family), but I think thereās something in itā¦ So letās just see.

I canāt describe how unique this gathering isā¦ Itās so genuine. Thereās no comparison. Or expectation. Or competition.
Thereās simply joy, adventure, encouragement, listening, laughter, courage and care.

Itās an honour to be present to others.
No need for words. Just loving intent and presence.
Massage is more than touch that feels nice; or kneading muscles to āfixā bits. At least thatās not how I see it.
True attention; true presence is an act of love. It is given without a specific end in sight.
I do not seek to āfixā or āsolveā the people who walk through my door. They hold the knowing of what they need. It is my role to be present, to listen and to honour what arises.
Through the body.
Some days the body says āyes I need strength and firmnessā. Other days it says āI need quiet touch.ā
Other times a limb says āhover here a momentā. Or, ārock me for a bit so I can loosen this gripā.
And every now and again, when we listen together with enough openness, the heart flows forth and washes through the sinews like great big cleansing waves.
It is a joy this work. And it amazes me the beauty that resides in each of us.

Iām seeking to lean into the unknown more nowadays.
Itās exciting - and frightening. š
For a few years I was in such a protective mode that I had a case of existential stuckness! I tried (in vein) to foresee the outcome of every decision to make sure it would turn out āokāā¦ Which meant I did a whole lot of nothing.
The journey since then has been one of gentle self compassion - and encouragement.
Seeking to give understanding to the part of me thatās scared, but to then take a step anyway - no matter how small.
Simply the step that feels doable.
When we keep moving, but work within our capacity, things slowly expand again.
Where do you feel too scared to make a move in life?
Where are you seeking guarantees before you begin?
In what way can you move in the direction you desire, despite the uncertainty?
What enables you to lean INTO the uncertainty just a touch - but not too much?
Do that. Daily.
We often resist accepting our circumstances. We donāt want to accept the current state of our health, or our finances, or fitness, or relationships.
And yet, accepting WHERE YOU ARE and HOW YOU ARE is actually the doorway to transformation.
When we fully accept where we are, we land at our starting place. Right here. Right now.
So often people tell me, oh once Iām a little more flexible Iāll start yoga. Or once Iāve lost a little weight Iāll start exercising. We resist where we are and thereby block ourselves from where we want to go.
Instead we can embrace both. I currently feel inflexible or weak or poor or (insert your adjective), AND I can begin to move, strengthen, save etc from EXACTLY where I am now.
How and where you are now is the ONLY place you can start from.
So stop fighting where you are.
Stop fighting yourself and embrace the potential thatās here. (No matter how tiny or seemingly insignificant.)
Every journey or transformation begins with one simple act and the willingness to repeat again and again.
Start where you are.
With acceptance.
With love.
With compassion and a bit of grit and determination thrown in.

Reflections from 2022 - part 1.
Iāve spent a lot of my time trying to think my way out of uncomfortable feelings. (Anyone else relate?!)
This year my agile mind got beaten by the circumstances that life presented ā¦ And what a blessing. I had to learn to STAY WITH my experience.
And as the year rounds out I can honestly say Iām discovering what self-compassion looks and feels like in practice.
Iāve discovered itās not all rainbows, affirmations and pep talk. Instead, itās more like walking into the dark night, holding my little selfās hand while whispering to her āItās ok to be scared, Iām here and I love you all the same.ā
And somehow I keep discovering that thereās always more light in the night sky then we might first realise.
āWhen we practice generating compassion, we can expect to experience the fear of our pain. Compassion practice is daring. It involves us learning to relax and allow ourselves to move gently toward what scares us.ā (Pema Chƶdrƶn).
