Sonja and Lydia collected data from women who were diagnosed/identified with Autism or ADHD later in life (after age 25). They have now completed all interviews and are focused on analysing the information collected. These data will help us better understand the challenges faced, coping mechanisms and changes needed.

We want to thank you all for your involvement. Taking the time to share your lived experiences will mean we can work toward creating more awareness in the general community and the health care industry in order make life better for women who have been diagnosed/identified with ADHD or Autism later in life. 🙏🏽

We will let you know when results have been released.

We are conducting a study to better understand the experiences of women who were diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and Autism later in life (after 25 years old). We want to learn about the challenges they face and how they cope with them. We also aim to develop support strategies to improve their lives.

The study will also help us better understand general attitudes and community understanding of ADHD and Autism in women.

If you are:

👉a women who was diagnosed with Autism or ADHD later in life (after age 25)
OR
👉a family member or close friend of a women who was late diagnosed
OR
👉a practitioner who works with late diagnosed women

and you can spare some time, we would love to hear your thoughts.

Your involvement will be to share your thoughts through an online survey, or if you prefer a live interview via telephone or videoconference. The questions relate to general attitudes toward and experiences of neurodivergence in women; stigma and misconceptions, strategies for education and awareness.

Happy days 🤩 Psychologist Rachel is available to take on a couple new clients in-person at our consulting suite in Melbourne’s CBD ☺️ Rachel is in the Centre on Mondays & Tuesdays and works with adult women of all ages and young people including children and parents. 👋🏽

“My approach is collaborative, strengths-focused and trauma-informed. My practice is also informed by examining the interplay between social forces and individual psychology, having observed that women and girls often develop negative ideas about themselves that have their origin in harmful cultural practices, such as the imposition of gender norms.

I aim to cultivate a safe environment where unhelpful feelings and patterns of behaviour can be explored and understood. And, when working with girls, I seek to foster a relationship with parents and include them in understanding and implementing the strategies being introduced to support their daughters’ wellbeing.“
