We work for humanity locally and internationally
Ever wondered about the Magic of Rotary? In one word ROMAC, (Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children for those not into acronyms) commencing in 1988 when a Rotarian and surgeons visited Fiji where the mortality rate in some areas was as high as 25% in some places due to the lack of medical and surgical facilities and the skills required. From that early beginning ROMAC have brought out over 400 children in desperate need of medical intervention to Australia and New Zealand for treatment and return to their families and loved ones.
ROMAC Southern Region are currently hosting Elina and her family for treatment of a club foot. Elina is a 5-year-old girl from Vanuatu who was born with a left clubfoot. Elina came to Melbourne in June, along with her mother and her aunt (as an interpreter).
Her left foot was examined by Dr Leo Donnan at VicOrtho and put in cast for 3 weeks, followed by an operation to release her tendon. Her foot was put in a cast again after the surgery.
Elina has been recovering well. She has been back to the hospital once for a wound inspection and she will need to return to the hospital again for a progress check.
Many thanks to Dr Leo Donnan, his assistants, the staff at VicOrtho, Julie Wain at St Vincent’s Private Hospital (East Melbourne) and all the hospital staff for their wonderful generosity and kindness.
Rotary Eynesbury is very privileged to welcome ROMAC’s Southern Region Chair Minh Nguyen, Elina and her family to this week’s meeting. Minh will be introducing our Guests and explaining what ROMAC does and how we can help. Please join us as our guests and show our support for Elina and her family.
Guests are welcome and can join us this Thursday at Ms. Peacock’s Restaurant and Bar from 6.00pm for meals and meeting commences sharp at 7.00pm. Bookings essential, please call or text Ross on 0411 228311 or email [email protected].

Rotary Eynesbury ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ Award announcement
Rotary Eynesbury 'Random Acts of Kindness’ Awards have been presented to worthy local residents since 2022.
Our first RAK awards of this year will be presented to four locals - Adriana, and three kind young men from Eynesbury, Briley, Blair and Trey.
This good story goes…'Adriana dropped by to pick up a few promised Zucchini from a friend and wasn't able to raise a response.
About to leave, she heard vague cries of help. Unable to get in, Adriana elicited the assistance of three fine young men passing by, who helped reach our local lady in distress. Once inside, Adriana called an ambulance and together with her 'young heroes’ they were able to support and keep Dian comfortable until medics arrived and whisked her off to hospital…luckily she sustained no major injuries, ...and is making a full recovery’.
This year we are very grateful to Damien Spiteri from Hocking Stuart, for generously sponsoring the 2024 Random Acts of Kindness Awards.
Check out our Rotary Eynesbury page for details on Adriana's and 'The Boys' Award Presentations, we have the Victoria Police Community Engagement Officer LSC Joanne Mutsaerts presenting on Neighbourhood Policing along with Damien Spiteri from Hocking Stuart to assist with the presentations.
Our Random Acts of Kindness Awards are chosen by our Committee from our community nominations and receive a commemorative Glass and a Gift Voucher in recognition of their good deeds.
