5 things you need to know if you are thinking of applying for an Employer Sponsored Visa:

  1.  You must have an eligible nominated occupation. If you are applying for a 482 visa, only a small handful of occupations require a skills assessment. For the 186 Direct Entry visa, you will need a full skills assessment.
  2.  The English requirement varies depending on the visa subclass and stream you are applying under. For example, if you are applying for the 482 visa with an occupation on the short term stream, you only need overall band score of 5 and at least 4.5 in each band or equivalent.
  3.  For the 482 visa, the employer first needs to become a standard business sponsor. Once this is approved, it will last 5 years.
  4.  For the Direct entry 186 visa, the employer does not need to be a standard business sponsor.
  5. Currently, for the 482 visa you need to have 2 years of relevant work experience (in addition to relevant qualification or as per ANZSCO) in your nominated occupation to be eligible. This is set to be reduced to 1 year later this year. If you hold a 482 visa, you can apply for the 186 TRT visa after 2 years.

Can I add my partner to my temporary visa application?

Yes!

1. You can add them at your time of lodgement or;
2. You can add them after your visa is granted.
3. The process varies for different temporary visas so be sure to seek the right migration advice.

Your partner will need to meet the definition of spouse at the time of application and the Department of Home Affairs will assess the genuineness of your relationship based on 4 aspects.

1. Nature of Household
2. Social Aspects
3. Financial Aspects
4. Nature of Commitment

Plan for your parents while you are planning for your own permanent residency in Australia!

Sponsored parent visa? Once you become a permanent resident or citizen of Australia you can sponsor your parents to live with you in Australia (temporarily) for 3 or 5 years at a time.
You do not need to meet the balance of family test unlike other parent visas.

This is a great option for those who cannot meet the balance of family test.

If you are a permanent resident or citizen of Australia, and must meet the balance of family test, they could apply for for contributory parent visa - subclass 143.

This visas costs over $47,000 in visa fee however the bulk of this fee is only due at time of visa grant.

You parents will also need to pass the health and character test.
