Spring is off to a windy start, but that doesn’t deter the greatest gardeners on four legs.

Steep slopes at Upper Ferntree Gully that were overgrown and posed a fire risk are now much tidier and safer thanks to our eco-friendly (and super-cute) goat crew.

Happy Father’s Day on 1 September to all families, including Metro’s own twins Stuart and Wayne.

They started as rail apprentices at Newport in the '80s, like their dad Merv (and uncle Bob) who worked there in the '50s.

Even their grandfather Doug was a track ganger in his day.
The force is strong in this rail family.

Please stay safe on the rail network as wind warnings are still in place.

Earlier this week, a tree fell on the Glen Waverley line, near Mount Waverley.

Our crews worked to remove it quickly and safely, so that services could resume.

We thank all passengers for their patience and understanding.

It was a great weekend for a spot of gardening 🌱

Our vegetation management crews have been out between Ferntree Gully and Belgrave, clearing branches to ensure line of sight to signals and reducing tree hazards.

Perfect weather conditions contributed to a safe and productive outcome.

It’s retro vibes all round at Yarralea Level Crossing.

The renewals completed by our team will keep this vintage beauty running smoothly for years to come.

Located near Alphington Station, Yarralea is one of Melbourne’s oldest level crossings, having opened in 1888.

Originally relying on a gatekeeper manually opening and closing gates, the crossing is today controlled by a shelf relay.

Meet Harrison, making the lives of our Newport station staff a little bit sweeter.

Harrison is studying his Certificate IV in Patisserie and has been doing so much baking he has been bringing cakes, tarts and pastries to his local station for staff like Robyn and Iming to enjoy.

Harrison hopes to one day work in France – home of the pastry. If these works of art are anything to go by, we think he has a great career ahead of him!

Bonne chance Harrison 🎂🥐🧁

Welcome back to the network, Parkdale Station!

Trains are now running on the elevated rail and through the brand new Parkdale Station after two level crossings were removed at Warrigal Road, Mentone and Parkers Road, Parkdale.

Crews are still working to finish the station, including installing the lifts by spring. Over the next few months the team will be planting trees, bushes and grasses as well as building gathering places and sporting and recreational facilities.

In the past year there have been more than 450 near misses with trespassers across our network.

This shocking CCTV shows the dangers of being distracted and crossing in front of trains.

The rail network is not a playground, never take a risk.

Stay safe by remaining behind the yellow line until your train has stopped. And keep the doorways clear for your fellow passengers when boarding.

🌏 Did you know that by taking the train you can save a tonne? 🌱

If you travel by train from Box Hill into the city just three times a week, over a year you will save one tonne of CO2 emissions.

Our new Journey Calculator tool compares train and car journeys, showing the more sustainable, cheaper and quicker option.

While having a good look around, the fantastic furry friends were spotted by the intruder detection system.

Is there anything more satisfying than a newly resurfaced platform?.

West Richmond’s Platform 1 is looking great after Infrastructure works over the weekend.

This work required 70 tonnes of asphalt, and 30 per cent of it was from recycled materials. That means 700 glass bottles, 1750 plastic bottles and 21 tonnes of reclaimed asphalt didn’t end up in a landfill.

24/07/2024

Did you know we removed enough graffiti in the past year to cover the MCG pitch 13 times?

That’s part of the work our Infrastructure team does to keep trains running on time every day. Their work involves renewing and upgrading 1000 kms of tracks, 40,000-plus structures and bridges, as well as signals, overheads and communications systems.

Check out what’s kept the team busy over the past year.

100 years ago, this was the key behind-the-scenes tool used on the railways.

In 1924, a telegraph and train running office was opened in Dandenong, and this was the train control desk used to run trains in the south east.

It was decommissioned years ago, and had been stored at Newport, and now we’re working with VicTrack to make sure it’ll be preserved as a part of Victorian railway history.

🚆 Getting on the train at Merinda Park is now easier with 100 new commuter parking spaces and a brand new bus interchange open. 🚗🚍

🖐️ But wait, that’s not all.

There are fresh safety improvements at Merinda Park as well, including CCTV, lighting and footpath upgrades, new fencing, tactile ground surfaces and shelters.

New signage and information displays will help passengers make their way onto trains and out of the cold.

We remove more than 20,000 square metres of graffiti every month. That’s an area bigger than the pitch of the MCG.

Last week removal specialists had to go to new heights to clean this piece of graffiti from the Flinders St Station clock tower.

Thank you to our crews for restoring the most iconic building in Melbourne to its former glory.

We will continue to work with Victoria Police to identify these vandals.

12/07/2024

There will be plenty of Giants on the network for this Sunday’s game. It’ll be a big one!
