Missing but not forgotten 💙
Craig Taylor was only 9 when he went missing, 31 years ago today. Craig was reported missing from a family camping trip in the Coningham.
Craig’s disappearance was reported to the Coroner who in 2014 determined he was deceased but was unable to determine the precise cause of death.
Prior to his disappearance, Craig lived with his family in Launceston and had two older sisters. The Taylor family often spent school holidays at a shack belonging to Mrs Taylor’s parents located in Coningham. The family had visited on numerous occasions and Craig would have known the local beach, main road and local area well.
Mrs Taylor and the children arrived at the shack on Thursday 2 September 1993 intending to stay until 9 September. At about 9.30am the next day Craig spoke to his mother, made her toast and had his own breakfast. Later Mrs Taylor asked him to get dressed as she intended to take him with her while she travelled to Kingston to do some shopping. However, when she was preparing to leave she found that he was not in the house and calls for him in the close vicinity were unsuccessful.
Craig has not been seen since.

Good to see Dr Xanthe Mallet
with in this ABC article, I shared previously to this post, with regards to policing and those living with mental health.
I am no psychiatrist but I have over 50yrs of lived experience hands on experience and in my personal opinion having this lived experience the Mental Health system and policing system needs an overhaul, with regards to acute crises care which may require police intervention and this has been needed for a long time. We have seen the high level of community emergency with those living with acute diagnosies being failed and community being failed when these events turn into tragedy. I love to follow Professor of psychiatry Patrick McGorrie
You may know him best for creating "Head Space" for youths
He also called a Royal Commission into the mental health system some years back and he has spent many words of wisdom and a strong advocate for change. You can search some of his great work online.
We have all this, Yet sadly these systems still fail the person living with particularly the more acute mental Health diagnosis - Presenting to hospitals to be sent home only to harm or kill themselves after or tragedy strike somewhere.
We see many left in community
un treated, un supported, un housed, Su***de, placed into the prison system with very minor
Criminal offences because we no longer have mental health asylums, the issue is when this system changed and mental Health asylums were all closed they didn't implement enough community supports and care in place for those living with mental health and also for those living with acute diagnosis
We also see alot of people experiencing or living with mental illness go Missing, we see families left with little support little resources and treatments that are lapsing. We see those struggling in acute mental health being shot and killed by police, we see tragic community events with loss of lives when the person should have been in hospital under HDU care.
We see a lack of education or understanding around Mental Illness - Mental Illness is not a disease it is a medical condition
and pending the diagnosis can be deemed with the more acute mental Illness's as a brain injury.
We see our most critical mentally unwell homeless in our communities because there is no longer term care for supports and a quitera that doesn't fit all the boxes.
We need police being fully trained for attending acute situations with or with out a weapon.
But there should be a acute care mental health team attending with police as most of these situation can be de-esculated with correct intervention by a trained psychiatric team and lowers the risk - to both the acutely unwell person and to the safety of those living in our community's to be safe.
It is also important to know that most living with mental illness receive a correct diagnoses and correct treatment are not a threat to themselves or others.
But this change that needs to happen is well over due.🗣
On behalf of the Leave A Light On committee, we would like to wish all dads a Happy Father's Day. We hope you have a magical day.
For those families missing their fathers/stepfathers/grandfathers and those fathers missing their child, our lights shine bright in the hope to brighten their paths home.

Our Story
Leave a Light On aims to raise awareness of missing persons cold cases in Australia. By working alongside other missing persons organisations we can promote long-term cases and raise awareness of the need for ongoing support for families and friends dealing with the ambiguous loss of a missing person.
Leave a Light On was inspired by the memory of my sister Joanne Ratcliffe who was kidnapped from the Adelaide Oval on August 25th 1973. After her disappearance every night my parents would leave the front porch light on in the hope that if she came home, she would know we were waiting for her. Even though more than 40 years have passed, the search for Joanne continues.
Leave a Light On began in 2015. Annually on 21 October, we ask everyone, no matter where you live, to Leave A Light On in memory of the many missing persons across Australia and as a symbol of hope to families their missing loved ones will never be forgotten. Be it a front porch light, an indoor light, or burn a candle in memory, join us to Leave A Light On and brighten their way home.
