It’s been a full on stormy road to get here. Raining hard through a break up, sailing the flat doldrums of lockdowns, and down down down with a very ill mother. But we traverse those depths, and eventually come up for air to go again.

I’ve been musing on resilience lately. We’ve been asked by the world, ourselves, our circles, our workplaces, to be resilient in the face of COVID, to be resilient teams, resilient to changing relationship and communication dynamics, resilient in the face of loss. We throw this word around a lot, and it’s a good thing, learning to be resilient.

The way it sounds – resilience – for me has always conjured ideas of silver, steel, metal, mechanical, like a spring. I’ve always thought resilience is strong, tough, somewhat cold, to be untouched by the fierce wind, to be like a mountain.

But by definition, resilience is likened to elasticity, suppleness, and buoyancy. To lift up, be lifted up, to lighten, to flow, to sway and sway back – these are all resilient behaviours – and by definition, truer than the former.

How nice it is that to rise up, to lighten, to be spirited, irrepressible, and go with the flow, are all signs of great strength.

‘Running’ is about that magnetic pull when you first meet that person who lights up your desire and you can't keep yourself from moving towards them. It's also got some cracking bass.
