Welcome to 2017! We hope you had a lovely break - we all took three weeks off and have come back to work feeling very refreshed. Looks like being a very busy year. We will be posting regularly but we'll start with a picture of our new HR Manager, Woofa the dog.

Happy New Year everyone! We have returned from our three-week break refreshed and ready to enjoy the great projects we have lined up for 2016. More news coming soon!

Hello, friends, after a long time! We are STILL having internet issues (it's as slow as a snail due to oversubscription in our area) but 'on we press'. This week we welcomed our newest intern, Norfaezah, from the University of Melbourne's Master of Urban and Cultural Heritage program. Here she is with Quinn.

28/06/2015

Dear all - just to let you know we still are not cabled up at our new SHP office so have no access to the internet or telephone for a few more days. My email is: [email protected] or phone +61411336902. Apologies - we are relying on Telstra and TPG (say no more!). Sue

Off to India again to travel for two weeks in the Punjab - from Sue. I have left SHP in the very capable hands of Quinn, Nic, Caitlin and Flick.

Here's an Austrade article on SHP's work in India - it omits my dramatic return to Australia from Delhi when I had to find Woofa and Jerry after they ran away. But the Indian clients have remembered and reassured me that my dogs indeed take precedence over my work. That's why I love working here! - Sue

I'm in Delhi for Australia Business Week in India. We visited the beautiful Red Fort yesterday and I presented to the Archaeological Survey and met with the School of Planning and Archictecture and INTACH. - Sue

04/01/2015

Happy New Year to everyone! Well, it's one more day until we're all back to work, minus Jhana, who is on maternity leave. Lots of exciting times for SHP are coming up in 2015, beginning with Quinn's visit to Penang for the Cheah Kongsi Interpretation Centre next week then Sue's two-week trip to India (10-24 January) for the Austrade cultural trade mission and to start work on the two Punjab State Natural and Cultural Interpretation Tenders. Felicity, Caitlin and Nicola will hold the fort in Melbourne, working on the National Sports Museum App and our Lend Lease Harpley Project.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from everyone at SHP. We all look forward to seeing you in 2015. xxSue, Caitlin, Felicity, Jhana, Nicola & Quinn.

We are proud to announce that SHP has been selected as the first-ranked firm in two international Asian Development Bank tenders for cultural and natural heritage interpretation in India. We are currently in the process of contract signature with the Department of Tourism, Punjab Government. These will be the first two major interpretation projects undertaken in India so it is really exciting for everyone involved. SHP thanks Austrade and the Victorian government for their continued support over two years; we could not have achieved this without them.

13/11/2014

Sue has just finished attending the ICOMOS conference in Florence, where she will have an active role in the ICOMOS International Committee for Interpretation and Preservation of Cultural Heritage Sites.

02/07/2014

Happy Birthday SHP! We turned 13 on 1 July. I'm in India (coming back today!) but will celebrate with everyone when I return.

08/04/2014

Go SHP! Another fantastic achievement today at the opening of the 'Alfred Deakin: from journalist to international diplomat' exhibition in Geelong. Go team go!

21/03/2014

I've just discovered that there were 531 historians employed in Australia in 2011. SHP has 6 (part-time, full-time and casual), which makes up around 1% of Australia's employed historians!

SHP :: Welcome to Sue Hodges Productions 20/02/2014

SHP is excited to announce that a new Executive Certificate in Heritage Interpretation will begin this year at The University of Technology, Sydney, which we will be teaching with Professors Paul Ashton and Paula Hamilton. Learn how to have a career in heritage interpretation and work in a wide range of industries. And discover how interpretation can change people's lives in Australia and around the world.

All enquiries: [email protected] or Paul Ashton at UTS: 02 9514 2311. I'm in India for work until 7 March but happy to Skype if you leave your number.

Photos from SHP's post 19/01/2014

Here is the team (minus Nicola McColl, who's still on maternity leave) on Jhana's birthday last week. Melbourne was so hot that we took the rest of the week off. Apart from that, the year is off to a good start with much travelling planned (as usual!) and lots of great projects to work on.

The other members of the team (on the right) are Molly, the greyhound, and Jerry, the golden retriever (Kate and I are sharing him). My Maltese Sh*tzu, Bones, is asleep out of range and the ducks and chickens are safely out in their enclosure, out of reach of the dogs' jaws.

Sadly, my beautiful and much-loved German Shepherd, Deegan, died this week from blood cancer, but will always be with us in spirit - she visited work a lot in her last weeks and sat at everyone's desk to help them with their work. She is on the far right.

Pope Francis understands economics better than most politicians | The Raw Story 28/11/2013

Go Pope Francis! I'm not Catholic but I think this is an intelligent deconstruction of capitalist economics and the 'free market' theory. Finally something inspiring from a leader - who would have thought it would be the Pope?? Catholic politicians of all stripes, take note: please you are probably (definitely) not following the Pope's leadership. As a side note, I am impressed with a leader who takes a stance -that's the point of being in charge of something, but too often ignored.

Pope Francis understands economics better than most politicians | The Raw Story Pope Francis is a pontiff who has constructively broken all the rules of popery – so far to widespread acclaim. He’s faulted the Catholic church for its negative obsession with g**s and birth control, and now he has expanded his mandate to economics with a groundbreaking screed denouncing “the new i...

Launch of the Great Ocean Road Heritage Experience 16/08/2013

SHP is working with Peter Winkler Architects on this exciting project, which represents world's best practice in heritage interpretation - we were brought in at the start of the project and have helped design the building. Great interpretive designs by Jhana Pfeiffer-Hunt and excellent research and theming by Caitlin Anne (Neely). And cupcakes by Sue Hodges (the author of this post - there is really no such thing as too much cake!) .

India was amazing. SHP has now also formed an alliance with the Centre for Interpretation Studies in Perth to develop an international training program over the next 3 years - please let us know if you would like info.

The Bay looked like a surf beach today! Nic and I were huddled inside the office with the heater on - how bizarre given last week's heatwave.

09/01/2012

India Trade Mission is off to a good start - we're going to five places in 10 days. Our focus will be ICT/heritage tourism at World Heritage sites. We are also compiling a list of great interpretation - please send any examples to us!

05/01/2012

SHP just won the Tender for the Rocks and Nicola and I are also going to India on a trade mission with the Victorian government. A big couple of months coming up!

01/12/2011

A busy month! SHP is back from the Perth IA/MA conference, where Sue was re-elected President of IA and Nicola was elected onto the Executive. Apart from that we had a fantastic 10th birthday party last Friday (which coincided with Sue's 50th birthday party - odd!). Pictures coming soon and more news about SHP's latest activities.

28/10/2011

Sue had a great day today meeting with Jane James and Roger Beeston re:interpretation. We also will be updating our website soon with some exciting news about courses in heritage interpretation SHP will run next year, so please send us your thoughts on what you would like to see in a training package. In the meantime, for Melbourne people, have a great Melbourne Cup long weekend!
