Big news from the Department of Home Affairs. Starting 1 July 2024, the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) is set to rise from $70,000 to $73,150. Make sure any new nomination applications meet this new threshold or the annual market salary rate, whichever is higher. Existing visa holders and nominations lodged before this date won’t be affected.
Jobs & Skills Australia (JSA) is also reviewing occupation lists for the Core Skills pathway. They’ve got three draft lists open for consultation:
1. Yes list: Confidently eligible occupations
2. Maybe list: Occupations needing more feedback
3. No list: Occupations likely ineligible but open for feedback
Notable roles on the ‘maybe’ list include Chefs, Cooks, Accountants, Data Analysts, various Engineers, Motor Mechanics, and more.
JSA is collecting industry feedback before making final recommendations to the Department of Home Affairs. Stay tuned for more updates!

Big news from the Federal Budget announced on 14 May! Here’s a snapshot of the key changes to Australia’s migration policies:
🚀 MATES Program
From 1 November 2024, the Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-Professionals Scheme (MATES) will allow 3,000 young Indian graduates and professionals (18-30) to live and work in Australia for up to two years. Fees: $25 pre-application ballot and $365 application.
🌟 Permanent Migration Program
For 2024-25, the program is set at 185,000 places, with 70% (132,200) for the skilled stream. From 2025-26, planning extends to four years. Net overseas migration expected to drop from 528,000 (2022-23) to 260,000 (2024-25).
💼 Skilled and Business Migration
The new National Innovation visa will replace the Subclass 858 Global Talent visa by late 2024. The Business Innovation and Investment visa program (BIIP) will be phased out with refunds available from September 2024. The Subclass 482 visa work experience requirement drops to one year from 23 November 2024.
🌐 Visa Policy Updates
From 2024-25, Subclass 462 Work and Holiday visa will have a ballot process for China, Vietnam, and India with a $25 charge. The Subclass 600 Visitor visa for Indian nationals will now be valid for up to five years.
💻 Tech Advances in Migration
Funds allocated for Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) to develop an advanced ICT solution for trade skills assessment, improving efficiency and meeting employer needs faster.

Good news for all 482 – TSS visa holders! The pathway to the Subclass 186 – Employer Nomination Scheme (Temporary Residence Transition stream) visa is now available to everyone, not just those in the Medium-Term stream. And the best part? Processing times are super quick, often just 2-4 weeks.
Reduced Employment Period for PR Eligibility
Now, 482 – TSS visa holders only need to work for their sponsor for 2 years instead of 3 to be eligible for the 186 – ENS (TRT) visa. This means you can transition to permanent residency faster.
Introducing the Skills In Demand (SID) Visa
The new SID visa will replace the 482 – TSS visa, offering three pathways:
1. Specialist Skills Pathway: For high-paying professional and management jobs.
2. Core Skills Pathway: For a variety of occupations similar to the current 482 – TSS visa.
3. Skills in Demand Pathway: For essential roles like aged and disability care, with salaries under $70,000 + super.
