IMMI UPDATE: Increase in TSMIT and Expanded Pathways to Permanent Residency

1. From 1 July 2023, the TSMIT will increase from $53,900 to $70,000.
2. All Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa holders may now access the Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream of the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (subclass 186).
3. Eligibility for TRT stream will be reduced from 3 years to 2 years.
4. Government is also removing the the quota for Short-term stream TSS visa and holders can now access wide range of occupations.

People from India make up a quarter of the 96,300 international student visa holders currently in Victoria, followed by those from China on 19 per cent and Nepal on 7 per cent. A new Migration Instrument was recently passed, which provides that on 1 July 2022, certain 'specified persons' can now apply for Permanent Residence (PR) including those ‘specified 457 visa holders’ or those subclass 482 visa holders in the short-term stream.
