It's that time of the year again.
"Zombies on the Course". I had fun with my Halloween image for the Melbourne Disc Golf Club this year. :) Aussie disc golf
I have been playing with some of the new tools and filters in the new Photoshop release today. Whilst some still need more work there are some impressive refinements which will make life as a photo retoucher that little bit easier and hopefully save time. Have you tried PS2021? What is your favourite new feature?
This photo of my daughter looks much more interesting with distracting features removed from the backgorund and some color / exposure enhancement. Sometimes the little changes can make a big improvement.
My latest blog post: I tried out some of the automated photo colourisation apps to see how well they performed. Have you tried any of these? I was not particularly impressed with the results.

I recently had the pleasure of restoring this photo of the smallest harness racing driver and her horse I have ever seen. :) Check out the blog post here;

New on my blog. I have been catching up on a few personal projects.
Waterloo One of my favourite haunts in Melbourne is the Camberwell Markets which, sadly for now has been cancelled due to Covid19. I though this time of isolation would be the ideal time to restore some of the amazing images I have found at the market during previous visits. The two images below were copied....
Thought I would have a dabble with some digital painting. It has been a while since I have done so. My rendering of this photograph by Zhang Kaiyv was inspired by traditional Japanese woodcut prints.

Have you seen this video? It is pretty amazing.
Video Footage From New York City in 1911 Has Been Upscaled to 4K and 60fps, and Colorized A YouTuber has undertaken the task of upscaling video clips taken in New York City back in 1911. Despite the footage being 109 years old, he managed to upscale the footage to 4K, while also colorizing it and increasing its frame rate to 60fps. It’s not the first time Denis Shiryaev has managed to ...
I recently restored some of these images of the Wardell Children, Sorrento. Check out my latest blog post to see more. http://www.pixelbypixel.com.au/index.php/2020/01/wardell-children/
The Wardell Children, Sorrento The Vic State Library is an amazing resource with a huge collection of digitised images. Whilst browsing their collection recently, I came across these delightful images of the Wardell Children who spent their childhood in Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula during the early 1900's. The images were...

New on my blog: Can you help identify this movie / TV series?
I need your help. Can you identify this Movie? One of my favourite pastimes is scouring our local markets for quirky treasures like this photograph. It was one of a few images I found among lobby cards from movies and Television. With a little help from Google and Facebook fan communities I have been able to identify the other images. I have had...

There has been a lot of snow this week in Australia. Here are a few images I restored from our family collection of snow at Walcha in 1951.
A little fun for Halloween
Halloween Fun with Photoshop Whilst 99% of my job involves making my subjects look better, I sometimes have the opportunity to have a little fun with Photoshop and embrace the gruesome. Last weekend, Pixel By Pixel sponsored a disc golf tournament at Bald Hill Park in Clarinda, VIC. There was a Halloween theme for the event so
This pas weekend I had the pleasure of photographing my Nephew's wedding on our family farm at Nowendoc, NSW. The weather was not what we had hoped for but the misty rain and fog did make for some lovely soft lighting and fun candid shots. Congratulations Mick and Zena and thank you to my Husband David and my Son, Addison for being second shooters. :)
A new blog post about a very odd image. As the title indicates...."All Kinds of Crazy!"
All Kinds of Crazy; restoration of a very odd image I found this image at the Camberwell Sunday Markets and decided it would be a fun restoration challenge. I like sifting through these old images to find something quirky and on this occassion, I certainly found it! It wasn't until I scanned the photograpah and took a closer look that I realised just...
Now, this is just a little bizarre. I found this image of the 'tribal' cardboard cutout group among others at Camberwell Markets last weekend. It is sad that images like these have been discarded by their original owners or decedents of and I may never know the story behind them but the few that I rescued will live to see another day. A new story will be created!
I will share my progress with restoring them soon. The lady selling them has collected them from op shops and auctions. They may otherwise have been thrown into landfill.
Please share to help find the owner, especially WA friends.
Salvos save war medals, search for rightful owner The Salvation Army store in Mandurah is searching for the rightful owner of a set of war medals discovered in a donation bin about two weeks ago.
