Understanding the long time change.
“There are four distinct factors which post difficulty to maintaining long-term behavioural change.”
And this is the most difficult component, to the cycle of change, as there are so many minor and more significant buffers that hold people back from the true success.
1) Cognitive and motivational drift:
At the start of the year, people are passionate about the new resolution they have implemented and the new change they will have in their life in the coming year.
Sure enough, in the subsequent few months, these people experience a drift back to their original behaviours and lifestyle.
We go full-on with a lot of enthusiasm but hit roadblock very quickly and motivation drops fast unless people take step by step this new change. We need to realise that the body doesn't understand this sudden change.
Long-term adherence to changes in your life is best done when realistic and specific goals are outlined and there is a meaningful reward.
2) Lack of perceived improvement:
It is well known that should someone waver from a lifestyle change because they don't think they are improving or don't see immediate improvements, the enthusiasm for change will begin to deteriorate and belief in long-term change begins to develop.
3) Lack of social support:
Long-term success for any change in life is more likely if the individual has a supportive social environment.
Having emotional, tangible, and informative forms of support makes the likelihood of success for long-term higher.
4) Lapses:
With any long-term change, there will be behavioural lapses or slip-ups which encourage old habits. The key is to keep yourself focused on the future, moving forward toward actionable goals (Remind the post of S.M.A.R.T goals).
With regular meetings with a life coach, people can monitor their own relapses through progress reports and plan a detailed method for handling those obstacles to prevent them from happening in the future.
They can figure out why they didn't reach their goals one week, what stops them, whether they have faced this issue in the past, and they can do in the future to prevent it.
Just remember that any change to your life is usually painful, it is normal, as your mind will always fight back to new understanding/changes, the mind changes only when your major change is necessary. The minds changes via instinctive moments like an animal the bird will change his nest when it's needed not but fashion nor by mood change but by obligation, it is necessary to understand your mind before planning any changes.

"Positive thinking is the key to successful change"
How to positive and focus on it?
Identify areas that need change:
• You should always assess the situation and think of areas that really do need change. Starting small can really help.
• Always assess yourself. This is a situation where you develop indexes to assess yourself well and check for anything.
• Always be open to humor and things that have the ability to make you happy.
• Having a healthy lifestyle will greatly help you.
• Always try to avoid people who are not very positive in life. When you surround yourself with negative people, then you won't change at all.
• Take part in a positive self-task.
Consider the 3 ideas below:
➼ Meditation.
According to research, people who have invested a lot of time in meditation are more productive. they display more attention to positive skills than those who don't.
(According to Barbara Fredrickson, people who meditate on a daily basis end up having a better life, perform well, and achieve better goals in life.)
➼ Writing.
It is scientifically proven that when you spend a lot of time writing, you will develop some quality positive thinking guides. According to the "Journal of Research I Personality", people who wrote about positive thinking and experiences each and every day developed into happier people than those who fail to write.
"I have personally tried writing good things about each day and I have been very successful."
➼ Play.
It is said that work without play makes "Jack" a dull boy.
This "Jack" could be you. When you spend your time thinking about money, house, car, and meetings, chances are that you will not have a good amount of time to enjoy yourself.
It has been proven that people who play often have a better life than those ignoring it.
"This is usually an egg-chicken situation where it is hard to explain which one comes first. Do you become happy when you are successful or do you become successful if you are happy? "
In reality, both of these situations are correct.
Top reasons why goals fail.
• Limiting beliefs.
The main reason why many people's goals are never realized is that their belief system is usually affected.
This is the process where they start having the so-called "wavering faith". This is in the process where they start doubting whether they have the ability to achieve them.
In many cases, it is their friends or relatives who tell them that their goals are unachievable.
The thing is, it is not good to believe what people have to say about you. They are not in your shoes. They are looking from the outside, inward and they have no idea what you are truly capable of achieving. Only you can know that.
Therefore, it is important to believe in yourself no matter what people are saying about the goal that you have.
Just like Henry Ford once said, 'You are always right when you think that you can or you can't".
You should never doubt the inbuilt potential that you have in you all the time.
• Creating the wrong goal.
When you go ahead and set goals that are not "SMART", it is likely that you won't achieve these goals.
There are a number of things that make goals hard to accomplish:
‣ When you set a goal just because someone else is setting them. For instance, when you decide to do engineering just because all your friends are doing it.
‣ When you set a goal just to make other people happy.
‣ When you set a goal that you don't really love or care about.
For instance, setting goals as an engineer while your love is fashion.
‣ When you tell others about your dreams and ambitions.
• Lack of consistency and patience.
One thing that you should know about goals is that they are not always easy to accomplish. It takes people many years to accomplish the things that they have now. It took many years for Steve Jobs to create Apple and Bill Gates to create Microsoft.
• Lack of Action.
At the beginning of the year, people come up with different resolutions of what they want to achieve later in life.
Sadly, less than 3% of people who set up these resolutions end up achieving the goals.
This is simply because they don't work towards achieving their dreams. If you know that you won't achieve the goals, then you should not even bother setting them at all, as you are losing time on the real target.
Achieving goals: what's next?
So what to do when you finally achieve your life goal, it is very important to enjoy all that comes with it. Don't forget to give yourself a pat on the back for the hard work.
After you done that, you should not call it quits.
You should take the time to reward yourself, but remember that the journey is not finished. It is important to review your goals, which will give you an edge into achieving the rest that you have.
• If you have easily accomplished the goal, challenge yourself by setting a tougher goal that is not easy to accomplish.
• If, on the other hand, the goal took many years to be accomplished, you should now reduce the timeline of the next goal.
• It is also important to change the goals in the course of all this. If you learn something that is significant, then you should do your best to change and align it well.
At times too, you will fail to achieve the goals.
This absolutely normal so don't be too hard on yourself or give up because of one failure.
If you decide to take it positively, then you will ultimately achieve your goals.
If you take it negatively, it will demoralize you and you will likely give up. You should take it as lessons that will help you build the next stage of the goals. You should also take it as a learning process. Remember that you can learn from failure the same as you learn from success.

Setting valid goals in life.
There are a number of more tips that you should think about when setting valid goals in life.
• Always state the goal in a positive manner.
Don't say that you don't want to make mistakes.
Simply say what you want instead.
• When setting goals, always state something that is precise.
Here you want to have a good timing so that you can work towards it. Failure to do this will present a very grave mistake in that you will not have the parameters to look into.
• Set priorities.
Chances are that you have more than one goal.
In this angle, you should always set the priorities of the goals that you want to achieve in life. You should arrange them based on their priority too.
• Write the goals down on a piece of paper.
When you are creating goals, it is important for you to write them down. In this situation, you want to make the effort for what you really want to achieve. You should not save them on a computer. Write them and then stick it somewhere that you will see every day.
• Keep operational goals small.
The next thing that you want to do with your goal is that you want to keep the operational goals small.
You basically don't want to work on very many things at the same time.
Remember that you also want to enjoy life.
When you start trying to achieve too many goals at the same time, it will make you lose focus.
• Always rely on performance goals.
When setting goals, it is recommended that you set performance goals. Doing this will be very significant to you.
You want to set up the goals that you are totally in control of.
When you are not in control, it will give you a lot of challenges at the end of the day. Those goals should be personal. This is because you don't know what the other guys really want. You might not be able to achieve the goal within the given time frame, because you are relying on someone else to make your dream come true. But if you focus on performance goals instead, you are only relying on yourself.
• Be as realistic as possible.
This is where many people go wrong. Since they have heard that it is important to set goals, they go overboard and set goals that they can't ever realize.
For instance, imagine a situation where you want to be a billionaire in the next two weeks.
How on earth will this goal be achieved?
Where will all this money come from?
It's not a realistic goal and at the end of the day, you should be setting realistic goals, goals that are actually attainable.
You should always have a sense that this is the real world as you work toward these goals. You cannot set a goal that you want to drive a plane and yet you have not taken the training course.
Next post: "Once goals achieved what's next?"
Step 2: Set smaller and shorter goals.
After you have done the above (step 1), it is time to set smaller goals that you want to achieve, say, in the next 5 years or so. These will be the foundation or the so-called "building blocks" of the long-term strategic goals.
With these, you can continue to divide the plans in terms of one year, 6 months, one month, and a daily plan.
The goals should be aligned with the achievement of long-term goals.
Say, for instance, you want to be a lawyer in the future.
In that case, it is important for you to focus on your education and pass every exam that will be required in the process.
You should create a checklist or a do list of the things that you want to do on a daily basis which is geared to the long-term goals.
One common mistake that you should never do is postpone things.
For instance, when you come up with a brilliant idea of what you want to achieve, you should implement it as soon as possible. When you are postponing your dreams, what you are doing is shifting your dreams.
Setting S.M.A.R.T goals:
S - Specific (The goal should be very specific)
M - Measurable (This means that the goal can be measured and conceptualized)
A - Attainable (The goal should be something within reach)
R - Relevant (The goal should be rewarding)
T - Time-bound (The goal should have the time aspect integrated into it)
Example of S.M.A.R.T goal:
"I want to tour Africa in 5 months' time."
This goal is Specific (Africa), Measurable, Attainable (it is realistic and doable), Relevant, and Time-bound (in 5 months' time). The thing is, this goal could be a bit complicated if you did not have the time aspect.
"Next post: Setting valid goals in life."
Step 1: Setting strategic goals (lifetime goals).
This is basically the stage where you take time to critically think about the things that you want to achieve over the years.
It is during this stage that you want to decide who you want to be in life.
When you have the strategic aspect of your goal setting, then there is a good chance that you will find fulfillment in terms of planning and goals setting, it will also give you a reason for the things that you want to achieve in life.
There are many categories that you can decide to divide goals into and all of them are important.
When you set up goals in these categories, you will be at a good place to figure out how to accomplish all of them at once.
It will give you a good dimension of the details that you want to have in your lifetime.
Some of the categories that you can come up with include:
- Career -
This is where you think in terms of your career and what you want to achieve in the process.
- Education -
This is very important as it will help you to achieve the above two.
Which courses do you want to study in the future and which school will you want to attend.
-Family -
In your goal setting, you should never forget your family.
What kind of person do you want to marry?
How many kids do you want to have?
Where do you want to live?
- Artistic -
If you are interested in Art, you should ask yourself whether you want to achieve any goal artistically.
- Attitude -
The kind of attitude that you have is very significant, do you want to change some attitude or gain new ones?
For instance, if you are ever negative, you should have a goal that will explain to you how you want to change to be more positive.
- Physical -
You should consider how you want to change in terms of physical features.
In this, you should consider whether you want to be fit or remain as you are.
- Pleasure -
You don't want a boring life. You want a life that you will enjoy as each day and night passes.
Therefore, it is important to consider ways that you want to enjoy yourself.
- Public service -
Do you want to improve life in your community or around the world?
There are many goals that you can have in life.
As you create these goals, you should think of a bunch of ideas on what you want to achieve.
Be careful not to leave any of them out, as this will be disastrous to you.
In each category, you should add as many points of what you want to achieve as possible.
The goal should be realistic.
In addition, these goals should come from you alone.
You don't want to use goals that your parents, spouse, or significant other want to achieve.
That will be living a life that you don't want.
If you want to be a model and your father wants you to be a lawyer, you should realize that you only live once. You must follow your own dreams in life.
Next post: "Step 2: Set smaller and shorter-term goals."
Setting personal goals.
- The first thing that you should do is to create what is called "the big picture".
This is also called the "strategic level" where you are not bothered by what to achieve in the next 10 years and beyond.
- The next level in all this is to break down the strategic level into smaller units of targets that will be geared towards hitting the lifetime goals.
- Lastly, you should now start working hard to ensure that your goals are met.
When you follow these steps, chances are that you will be happier in life as you achieve the goals that you have set.
When you have these goals, you should realize that every single day counts.
You should be very careful not to give up when you are on the path of achieving your dreams.
Every day wasted will end up pushing the goals further away from you until you don't even remember them.
We will now look at a number of key stages on how to define those goals to achieve them.
Next post: "Step 1: Setting strategic goals (lifetime goals)".
The need to have a goal
Many people feel as if they don't belong to this world. They think that the world really hates them.
They actually regret that they were ever born in this world.
This is simply because they work hard and doing what is universally considered the "right" things in life doesn't always amount to anything tangible at all.
But the reason not everyone sees the fruits of their labour is that they actually have not spend a lot of time thinking about what they want in life and setting realistic goals toward achieving those goals.
They don't know where they are going and thus, they remain stuck in the same place.
The thing is, you can never get where you want to go if you have no idea where you want to go.
If you set on that journey to nowhere, you will simply remain where you are.
Consider this small example:
You want to go out on Friday night but you don't know where.
You don't have an idea of where you want to go and as a result, you end up sitting around discontent because you don't know what you want, but you know you want it now.
In the end, you remain at home all night because you never made a decision and thus, were never able to go anywhere.
Having a goal in life is a very important thing.
If you want to be successful in life - whether that success is figuring out what to do on the weekend or being wealthy and powerful CEO - you need goals.
You should set goals for all of the various things that you want in life.
By setting goals, you are actually choosing where you want to go. By having a good picture of where you are going, chances are that you will be able to achieve your ambitions in life.
With a goal, you will also be able to figure out the basic ways of avoiding the major distractions that could come your way.
Why should you then set goals?
We will look at a number of key reasons as to why you should have a goal and how you will achieve them.
