I truly believe I would not have been able to move forward and achieve my goals without having the opportunity to stop and reflect.
I have my own story.
You have your story.
Reflect.
Who or what has helped you grow?
π
Ever thought of something you want to do?
Ever thought that something is too hard?
Ever thought "actually I can do this"?
When you're in the right mindset you're more likely to smile after the action because you've achieved it!
How wonderful does that sound?
So we need to be in the right mindset.
Even if we fail we'll mentally be prepared to fail. Then we try again.
Take your time setting up your mindset.
It can happen over night.
It can happen over a year.
You may need more information, more preparation and more questions answered.
My mindset has been too full recently, now that it isn't as full I have time to focus on growing it for the action I want. Such as gym πͺ and my wedding π.
A lot of people have always said they feel comfortable talking to me about their thoughts, apparently it's an aura thing.
I love listening to people but sometimes it's hard to say my own thoughts out loud.
Do you ever experience this?
Are you the one people go to when they need a vent?
To all those people caring for others, R U Okay?
To everyone who reads this R U Okay?
Me and so many other wonderful people are here to help ππ§‘
.....now read it again
1% rule
So I developed this rule when I noticed what capacity people had when they experienced distress or anxiety.
Asking people to do something for themselves or help their mental health seems daunting and overwhelming.
But what about putting 1% effort in? 1% effort doesn't seem that scary
1 % looks like - drinking a glass of water
1% looks like closing your eyes and focusing on your breath
1% looks like sitting in a brighter sunnier room
1% look like getting out of bed
There is no accumulation with the aim of reaching 100%. No. It's about one small % of effort that is achieved and sustainable when life gets tough.
#1%rule
- Control -
I recently posted about this and it's again an ongoing concern so many people face. A loss of control can significantly impact someone's mental health.
It's often seen that people develop poor coping strategies as a way to find control. Examples are self harming, drugs and alcohol, changed eating habits & over exercising.
REMINDER!
You have control over your thoughts and behaviours. No one can take that away from you.
This week I got to facilitate MHFA in Traralgon for the Australian Community Support Organisation π
Third week in a row facilitating MHFA
ACSO has to be one of my absolute favourite organisations to work for. The clinicians are dedicated people who truly want to help others with their mental health and wellbeing π
I've also been working with myotherapists via the Myotherapy Association Australia π having the privilege to bring mental health education to those who want learn how to further help people fills my happiness cup π
Hats off to anyone working in an industry where they provide person centered care π
Exercise truly is great for the mental health πββοΈ
The word 'exercise' doesn't have to be scary when it may seem hard work or impossible.
Small steps can make a difference. Today I ran 2 minutes on the treadmill, such a huge achievement after not being able to run without pain for the last year.
I spent 2 years working out at home before finding the confidence to walk into a gym. We all start somewhere.
Weight training (my favourite)
Yoga
Walks
Hikes
Bike riding
HIIT
The list goes on ....
If you ever need the motivation ask a friend to join, find a Personal Trainer or follow all the wonderful apps.

Success is on a scale of your own creation.
You set your own limits.
You set your own goals.
You set your own timeframes.
And don't forget to look back once in a while and smile at what you have achieved.

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."
Reading, learning and educating is how I know I'm changing lives each day.
What do you do?
Comedy! A brilliant treatment for sadness ππ€£
Joe Lycett is one of my favourite comedians who can make anyone cry laugh with happiness ππ€£
During his recent tour he used a phrase from a badge his friend made "sometimes if you want something to exist you have to make it yourself".
How powerful is that!?!?
Happiness......in fact we have to make ourselves happy to actually feel it. We feel happiness through the activities, people and food we enjoy. So use that 1% effort within you to make yourself happy! Use it or lose it!
Control
noun
1.
the power to influence or direct people's behaviour or the course of events.
When someone feels they have a loss of control in the various aspects of their life they turn to adaptive or maladaptive controlling behaviors.
Adaptive: exercise, reading, craft, work, self care
Maladaptive: restricting/purging, non-suicidal-self-injury, drugs & alcohol, impulsivity, aggression, anxiety driven behaviours - avoidance, insomnia/hypersomnia, self neglect
Our life journey is not set in a straight line. There are curves and hills. Moments in your life that you can choose if you'll learn from the difficult times (adaptive control) or let the difficult times control you (maladaptive control).
I've been seeing an increase in mental health presentations with the common core factors being a sense of loss of control. This gets me thinking of the education we need to understand and accept what we have control over and what we don't. But to be okay and contempt with.
A cup of tea, a book and a warm fireplace π
The cold has set into our bones
The winter blues are seen around homes
Sniffly noses and cold toes
We look forward to spring to be rid of our woes
I believed I could, so I did!
This year I connected with people to educate on my knowledge of mental health. From myotherapists, to nursing students, to consumers and carers.
I've got ample education behind me, but life experience is where the true learning is from. Life experience is where we can find empathy for others going through tough times.
This year I BELIEVED the sky was not the limit. I set my goals high and have been proud of my sheer determination and persistence to achieve those goals.
Now that I have achieved my goals ...... what's next.......
I like being different
I like having my own thoughts
I like having my own goals
I like chasing my own dreams
I like making my own mistakes
I like learning what I'm passionate about
I like being me. Me who is free.
What do you feel that makes you feel different?
Did you know......what can make anxiety worse.....
Are you surprised?
Have I mentioned I love education?
Not only providing mental health education for other but I continue to develop my own knowledge to remain up to date with the best practices π
Today was the first of many days teaching Mental Health at Monash University where our next generation of nurses will have the opportunity to walk into the workforce with empathy, knowledge and non-judgemental approaches
This month we've got another Mental Health First Aid course running for Myotherapists with an increasing numbers of participants each month
Awareness is spreading, education is developing, and knowledge is growing
To all my fellow mental health nurses YOU ARE AMAZING!
Hard truth time.....
Day in and day out I work with people who want to die, from 8 years old to 80 years old. I have to figure out a way to bring hope back into people's lives so they will want to live. Sometimes this is really hard. Sometimes I get abused and insulted. Most of the time I get thanked for helping and being kind. Those are the times I remember why I do this job.
And it's not just me who does this. Countless mental health nurses fight the hardest days of people's lives with them to find hope.
So thank you again to those who put their needs aside to help those in need π
The best part about Mental Health First Aid courses is YOU!
Hearing your stories, your thoughts, your questions, your wisdom.
These courses don't happen without you and your interest in helping improve our world
YOU are what makes the world a bit better each day
Thank YOU!

What does 2023 feel like for you so far?
I woke up on the first day of 2023 feeling positive and ready for the year ahead. However this took a lot of mental preparation just to get to that point. I'll be honest it took months.
I wish it could be as easy as waking up and everything will be right again, and sometimes that happens, but sometimes we wait too long for that moment.
Mental Health takes time. Learning its behaviours, emotions and thinking patterns.
Let's learn this year!
Let's make this year ours!
Stay amazing π
