Effective from 1 July 2023:
✨ The national minimum wage will increase by 8.6%, to $23.23 per hour.
✨ The superannuation rate will increase from 10.5% to 11%. Further increases of 0.5% are scheduled each year until 2025 when the rate reaches 12%.
➡️ Business owners, please make sure you allow for the increase in wages and superannuation when creating a budget for FY23-24.

📢 CHANGES IN WORK FROM HOME DEDUCTIONS
Recently the ATO released practice guidance PCG 2023/1 regarding deductions of work from home expenses. Here are some of the key changes thay you need to know to prepare for your tax return 2022/2023:
⭐️ Currently, there are two methods which individuals can choose from when claiming work from home expenses:
📌 The fixed rate method
📌 The actual cost method
⭐️ The actual method remains unchanged.
⭐️ The revised fixed rate method:
✅ The cent per work hour has increased from 52 cents to 67 cents.
✅ The requirement that individuals must have a dedicated home office to use the fixed rate method has been eliminated.
✅ The updated fixed rate method covers expenses such as energy, Internet, mobile and home phone, stationery, and computer consumables.
⭐️ Record keeping:
🆘 Starting from 1 March 2023
You must maintain a record of the total number of actual hours worked from home throughout the income year.
Providing an estimate for the whole year or based on a specific period and applying it to the entire year will not be accepted ❌🙅♀️
Determining whether an individual is an employee or a contractor is not as simple as many people might think 🧐 👨💻
🎯According to the ATO, the critical differences between an employee and independent contractor are:
📚An employee serves in your business, performs their work as a representative of your business.
📚An Independent contractor provides services to your business and perform work to further their own business.
Your tax, super and other obligations will vary depending on whether your worker is an employee or contractor.
