FMD's Martin Hawkins and his wife Rhiannon will be walking the Camino di Santiago in September to raise funds and awareness for the MND and Me Foundation. Martin and Rhiannon were inspired by their friend Pat Kinsella, who's bravely battled Motor Neurone Disease for over 10 years. This is Pat's story: https://fb.watch/staKmptA8h/.
Diagnosed with MND aged just 48, Pat decided to complete a marathon in his wheelchair to help raise awareness of his disease. Pat joined Logan River parkrun in Queensland to help with his training, before turning his hand to volunteering, and he has rarely missed a week since.
Motivated by Pat, Martin and Rhiannon’s trek is dedicated to helping find a cure. Support their journey and the fight against MND by donating using the QR code below.
Perfect weather graced the Annual FMD Golf Day at Metropolitan Golf Club. Along with friendly Ambrose competition, competitors also participated in charity activities to raise funds for Big Group Hug. Thanks to CEO, Bernadene Voss, for joining us to talk about the amazing work they’re doing to support vulnerable children and families. On behalf of BGH, Bernadene accepted a generous donation of $10,000 from The Edgar Foundation, a philanthropical trust advised by FMD Financial. Thanks to the generous contributions of attendees, a further $1,055 was raised, which will be matched by FMD, bringing the total to $2110.

Once in a while you get a chance to recognise a true professional; a principled, passionate adviser, an advocate for those less fortunate and positive change maker in the financial advice world. Our very own Nicola Beswick is one of those people. Please take a few minutes to vote for her in the 2023 Financial Standard Power 50 – a list of the most influential advisers in Australia: https://www.financialstandard.com.au/fspower50.
Good luck Beswick!
Sometimes we must feel the fear and have the courage to do something we’re scared of.
Putting this post together has been difficult to do – the self-promotion and asking for your support. It’s not something that comes naturally to me, or I suspect many others. However, today, an unassuming comment from a colleague reminded me I need to do my own self-promotion, and that it’s an important part of standing behind what you believe in.
I genuinely love what I do. Every time I see this picture, it reminds me of a 20-year-old lady who I had the privilege of helping. She had received a TAC payout due to injuries she suffered in a car accident. Those injuries also meant she is unable to work again. To this day I still think about her story and the way life was unfortunately disrupted.
I am also able to think about how what was every day work to us as advisers made a fundamental difference to her in one of the most difficult times of her life, and that every day I want to make sure other people in her situation receive the right advice to make the same difference.
As advisers, the lives we change and the positive impact our profession has on people needs to be celebrated. This is why I do what I do, so please vote so we can keep on working to change the world 😊

Career change can be something you plan deliberately or something that happens out of the blue. Good financial advice can answer all your burning questions and make the process more profitable and less stressful by turning a redundancy windfall into a fresh start. Talk to us if you or someone you know is experiencing career change and needs expert financial advice.
Facing career change in your 50s? Good financial advice can help. With redundancies set to increase as the economy slows in response to consecutive interest rate rises, it's reassuring to know that good financial planning can help minimise the impacts of late-career change.
