National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is underway, from May 27 to June 3, 2024.
NRW is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. As always, TOM are proud to support NRW with recognition across our Victorian state-wide premium large-format digital billboard network.
The TOM team excursion took them to see a fabulous exhibition of artworks at the Glen Eira city council gallery presented by The Torch called Confined 15.
Confined 15 includes artworks by First Nations artists currently in or recently released from prisons across Victoria.
Featuring a diverse selection of over 400 artworks by more than 380 artists, Confined 15 presents a strong visual metaphor for the over-representation of Indigenous people in the criminal justice system and showcases the power of culture in the process of healing and reconnection. Have you spotted this in Castlemaine? We're thrilled that our current off-site billboard featuring this vivid artwork by Yorta Yorta/Wiradjuri artist Ash Thomas continues to be extended for locals and visitors to experience in person.
Presented on the Midland Highway (42 Johnstone Street, Castlemaine), 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 "represents the stories and knowledge passed down through the years, about hunting and tracking food and about skins for trade and warmth in the colder months," as stated by the artist.
Thank you to billboard partner Total Outdoor Media. This is a National Exhibitions Touring Support - NETS Victoria touring project, with support from The Torch, Victoria . This project emerges from the touring exhibition Collective Movements, initiated by the Monash University Museum of Art.
