Follow us at to walk down memory lane. It’s like a night spent with a drunk mate retelling the same s**t story for the 100th time. “STOCK AS ART. is the genius behind the hanging bottles at DER RAUM. Later when we renovated the bar with the help of we changed to our signature poison bottles. Maybe inspired by the famous Death ci******es brand I liked the idea of highlighting the reality of how we made our living front and centre.
Another of menus which drew completely from one classic book. The idea being if Bar Americano had opened in the 1940-50s what resources were available at a time. It was also a great opportunity to deep dive into the b-side and hidden gems of these brilliant books.

‘Greetings from Bar Americano in Melbourne. We are heading down to Adelaide to spread the word about our non-alcoholic spritz range, Gruppetto (and perhaps escape the Victoria weather).
After 20-odd years of frustration trying to get our non-alc beverage program up to a level that would sit next to their boozy cousins, we finally feel we might have cracked it with our canned Gruppetto range (pun intended). For us, the sporadic nature of mocktail orders always made it a complex problem. Tea infusions, ferments and fresh-pressed options just weren't stable enough and we ended up throwing too many good drinks down the drain. Consistency and prep time with these methods was also another difficult obstacle.
We needed something with the aroma, mouthfeel, flavour and attitude of a cocktail. We also needed it to be consistent, shelf-stable and efficient to serve. This is the DNA of Gruppetto. After a soft launch at some of Australia's premier venues in Melbourne and Sydney, we are now ready to share our baby with the world. We would love the opportunity to demonstrate these benefits to your current beverage program.
Anyway enough of the rant. Words are cheap, so come have a taste for yourself at Clever Little Tailor. Our founder Matt Bax will be jumping behind the bat to share his creation with you (and maybe a cheeky Bar Americano Negroni if you ask nicely)’
Pretending to be working this weekend in Queensland. tasting with : tmw at 4pm and Sunday in Brisbane . Come say hi 🤌🏽
Thank you to the talented team at and all the exhibitors for a brilliant effort yesterday. Special shout out to and for the expert insights.
It can be put off no longer. The warehouse needs to be sorted. It’s a slow process walking down memory lane though. I met for the first time at this event. I watched in awe of sitting at the big boys table with Illuminati. The evening was concluded with a perfect nightcap with .diffey and at the one and only ( well technically there are two but that spoils the caption).

SUCH BEAUTIFUL WORDS.
TOO KIND! Repost LAST DRINKS FOR A LEGEND. Just over 11 years ago a bar popped into existence and instantly redefined what Melbourne bars were all about. At an address of almost fractal obscurity in the heart of the CBD, in a space so small it was more nano-venue than small bar, and with a creative tension balanced on a keen edge of deep reverence for the American bars of interwar Italy and an artistic commitment to constant subversion and endless evolution, was entirely its own beast.
In it you found perversity – no photos, no bookings and even for a while no credit cards; not a single corporate logo on display, with all the booze decanted into unlabelled bottles. You found a style of service seemingly driven more by German Expressionism and the Noh theatre of Japan than by any recognised norms of hospitality. You found drinks of radical precision and clarity: cold, crisp and shimmering, dangerously drinkable. And you found the best people ever, randos from far and wide, all drawn by a reputation that stretched around the globe.
Under the direction of , seeker, dreamer, and stealth South Australian, the Nina Simone of the Hawthorne strainer, the Tarvoksky of refreshments, the Don Van Vliet of the bar spoon, it has stayed true to its vision all these years, creating a legacy for which I am mighty grateful.
From 3pm this afternoon, Saturday 3 December, the bar begins its final service, and the end of an era. This is last drinks for Presgrave Place, but not, I hope, for Bar Americano. It may or may not be too strange to live, but it’s definitely too beautiful to die. Big love to you, Captain Bax, and big love to you, Americano, and all who have sailed in you
