I really like this resource by which can by used to help facilitate discussions with children about their Autism diagnosis ⭐️
I bought it on TPT a couple of weeks ago and have used it with a few of my clients recently with great success.
I’ve found that it has helped children to start to think about their own unique strengths, personality and amazing brains in a really positive way 😊

Here is your reminder of how to Avoid a Lemon. If you are given strategies that encourage your child to look away from letters to read words (Like looking at pictures), ask for ways to help your child use knowledge of letter-sound relationships to read words instead. https://improvingliteracy.org/brief/route-reading-avoid-lemon
Cute story about a bear with hearing loss
This is so useful 😊
When you're working on grammar/morphosyntax with a child, it can be hard to know where to start! And where to go next. And then after that. And... well, you get the idea.
That's why we love this resource, developed by Dr Susan Ebbels, Dr Amanda Van Horne, and the team of speech pathologists at .
This amazing free guide provides a suggested order of intervention for grammatical concepts and structures, from single-word utterances all the way up to centre embedded relative clauses with passive objects. And if you blacked out during that last bit, you might be pleased to know that examples of all structures are also included.
Happy grammar-ing. 😉 https://www.theinformedslp.com/review/the-grammar-guide-you-never-knew-you-always-wanted

A useful way to think about autism is to understand it as a different neurology expressed in a ‘rainbow’ of ways that always represent both strengths and challenges in the person’s profile. The person is different, not defective and deserves respect and admiration for how they cope in a world where most people are not only not autistic but do not understand someone who is.
I thought I’d get in the Christmas spirit and make some ‘Elf on Shelf’ language prompt cards. They’re great for working on so many speech and language targets (e.g. vocabulary development, SVO sentences, WH questions, inferential reasoning, production of /l/ in word medial position, /f/ in word final position…to name just a few)
Posted • Autism is "DYNAMIC'
This means that an autistic person’s capacity and functioning are not solid, they may be fluid and fluctuate, and the level of support needed may change. An autistic individual may have the qualities and abilities to be capable of a task one day but be unable to perform the task another.
Several factors influence an autistic individual’s capacity and functioning, and this list varies for each person:
• cognition
• Environment
• communication differences
• executive function
• burnout
• anxiety
• processing capacity
• sensory overload
• emotional intensity
• proprioception and interception
For example, a person may be able to engage with their peers one day, but the next day finds this task challenging and emotionally draining. This example demonstrates that an individuals support needs may fluctuate, with one day requiring very little or no support but needing more intense the next.
Such a great idea!

These “Be Positive” videos on the Royal Children’s Hospital website are great for preparing children for medial appointments.
They are child-narrated and use simple language to help prepare child for what to expect during a range of procedures - from audiology to immunisations to surgery. Such a great idea and could be particularly helpful for anxious children or autistic children 😊

Posted • Did you know research had found that an autism diagnosis made at 18 months of age remains stable over time (is correct)- but that children evaluated at young ages which resulted in NOT getting an autism diagnosis do tend to get an autism diagnosis at a later age? It’s true- and I recently blew some minds when I said this is not always due to evaluator error. It’s because social demands and expectations increase with age. Many kids are able to do what is expected of younger children and then struggle as social relationships become more complex. This is extra common in girls- check my feed for more info!
