June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month .

Bowel cancer claims the lives of 103 Australians every week (5,350 people a year) - but it's one of the most treatable types of cancer when detected early.
299 Australians will be diagnosed with bowel cancer this week (15,531 people a year).

While the risk of bowel cancer increases significantly with age, the disease doesn't discriminate, affecting people of all ages. Early detection can save lives.

A bowel cancer screening test is recommended every 2 years between ages 45-74 as per our medical guidelines . From 1 July 2024, the eligible screening age for the National Bowel cancer screening programme will be lowered from 50 to 45 to reflect above .

Dear patients
Lilydale Doctors has now relocated to 104-108 Main Street Lilydale (two doors down to our previous location ) . Thanks to our excellent tradesmen & staff the whole move inc fitouts etc was completed within 10 week .

Your nurse will check your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

Next, your GP uses the information gathered to assess your risk of having a heart attack or stroke in the next five years.

With flu season fast approaching, we’re posting this to remind you about the importance of getting your flu vaccine. The flu season runs from April to October, so to ensure you and your family stays healthy and safe, it’s essential to get vaccinated.

The vaccine is recommended for everyone aged six months and above, and it’s particularly important for those who are at higher risk of complications from the flu.

National Immunization Program provides a free flu vaccine to eligible people, including:
• People aged 65 and older
• Pregnant women
• All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months or over
• People aged 6 months or older with chronic medical conditions (eg Heart or Lung issues )
• Children 6mo to less than 5 years old.

PRIVATE FLU VACCINE : For anyone not eligible, there is a charge of $20 only for the flu vaccine ( no additional cost for the appointment)

When you begin your weight loss journey, You are motivated & determined . You may see good weight loss results during initial weeks but it gradually fizzles out. Few reasons why you might be struggling to lose weight and how to overcome them !

Eating too much:
If your weight loss has slowed or stopped take time to write down everything you are eating. Measure your food and track your calories.
Before you eat something, think to yourself – ‘Am I hungry? Do I really need this?’
Check your portion sizes.

Sleepless nights
Why not prep some of your favourite weight loss diet meals and have them in the freezer ready to eat when you feel the need for convenience food?
Or, make a meal plan at the beginning of the week that you know you have to stick to!

Not Moving enough:
If you’re a sedentary person, who works at a desk all day, or someone who finds themselves seated for long periods of the day, it might be time to look at introducing some exercise for weight loss. By exercise, we don’t mean anything super strenuous either. It could be something as small as a 30-minute walk at lunchtime or yoga class.

Not drinking enough water:
If you’re feeling hungrier recently, or just can’t stop snacking, try drinking a glass of water when those feelings arise and seeing if it reduces your cravings and hunger pangs.

Moderna Bivalent vaccine is now available against COVID19 . It is the first bivalent vaccine (original plus Omicron BA.1) to be made available in the country. "People who are due for a COVID-19 dose are encouraged to book an appointment as soon as possible.

What is different about this new vaccine?
The Spikevax bivalent vaccine helps against the original 2020 COVID-19 variant as well as Omicron variant BA.1. . It also appears to give extra protection against subvariants BA.4 and BA.5, the main Omicron variant circulating in Australia.

Who should get the new vaccine?
Anyone over 18 years of age who has not had their third or fourth vaccine jabs should consider getting the Moderna bivalent as a booster shot.
