🚨 Important Update on Student Visa Applications 🚨
Starting 1 July 2024, the Australian Government is implementing new measures to maintain the integrity of the international education system and support genuine international students. Here are the key changes:
🔒 Restricting Onshore Visa Hopping 🔒
To prevent misuse of the student visa program, the following visa holders will no longer be able to apply for a Student visa while onshore in Australia:
Subclass 485 (Temporary Graduate)
Subclass 600 (Visitor)
Subclass 601 (Electronic Travel Authority)
Subclass 602 (Medical Treatment)
Subclass 651 (eVisitor)
Subclass 988 (Maritime Crew)
These restrictions add to the existing list:
Subclass 403 (Temporary Work - International Relations) – Domestic Worker (Diplomatic or Consular) stream
Subclass 426 (Domestic Worker (Temporary) – Diplomatic or Consular)
Subclass 771 (Transit)
Subclass 995 (Diplomatic Temporary) – primary visa holders only
🌏 For Offshore Applicants 🌏
Offshore student visa applicants will not be granted a Bridging visa.
Applicants must stay outside Australia until their visa decision is made, unless they have another visa allowing them to stay in Australia.
Compliance with visa conditions, including work or study limitations, is mandatory.
This reform is part of the Migration Strategy to combat 'permanent temporariness' and ensure that students contribute meaningfully to Australia's economic growth. Temporary Graduate visa holders should seek skilled job opportunities or other visa pathways to permanent residency. Aspiring students should apply for a student visa from offshore.

Tasmania close State migration program
The 2023-24 Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program is now closed to new Registrations of Interest (ROI).
Migration Tasmania will not issue further invitations to apply for nomination this program year.
If your clients have been invited to submit an application for nomination but they have not yet lodged, they can continue to do so before the invitation expiry date.
Migration Tasmania will continue to assess applications for nomination that have been lodged but not yet decided, however only a few nomination places remain so not all applicants will be nominated this program year.
Once all nomination places are used, any applications that are approved will be nominated after Tasmania receives its nomination allocation for the 2024-25 program year.
ROIs that have been allocated a green or gold pass will continue to be held in the Application Gateway and considered for an invitation to apply for nomination when the 2024-25 program opens.
Migration Tasmania will publish any information on the 2024-25 program on their website when it becomes available

"Post-Higher Education Work stream (former Post-Study Work stream)
The maximum eligible age for Post-Higher Education Work stream applicants will reduce to 35 years of age or under at the time of application. Masters (research) and doctoral degree (PhD) graduates and Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders will still be eligible if they are under 50 years of age. Applicants no longer eligible for the Post-Higher Education Work stream due to the age reduction may be eligible for other visas"
