To our Crate family,

Time for a wee announcement.

In 2016, we had absolutely no idea what could lay ahead. We opened our doors on day 1 and wondered if anyone would come to our little cafe. Little did we know, we had landed ourselves in one of the greatest communities known to humankind. You helped build this baby up by loving her, nurturing her, and carrying her through some extraordinary times. It took a village to raise this ratbag!

Your support has meant everything to us. Particularly to a community who saw us through Covid, we could not be more grateful.

It’s time to hang up our aprons, and embark on our next adventure(s), away from hospitality, the industry we’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly of.

We are handing Crate over to a passionate, warm, kind and caring professional - just the type of person we want to have continue to nurture our baby. We have had the opportunity to get to know Rachel over the past couple of months and we are excited for her to take this on. She has shown dedication and humour, and has been super generous (thanks for the juices and Portuguese tarts!). You’ve probably already seen her at the crate window or drinking a cappuccino out the front with her adorable pooch.

Crate started as a dream. It became a life force. It has been a privilege to become part of this community. Over the years we have been humbled by acts of kindness, and inspired by extraordinary courage and generosity. We are so proud. Thank you.

To our staff, past and present, we love you and thank you for what you brought to this place. You’ve all left your mark in some way or another.

Now, to celebrate and say thanks for your support, we would love it if you could join us for a little farewell on Nov 18 at the Heidelberg Scout Hall (31 Outhwaite Rd, Heidelberg Heights 3081) from 5-10pm. Some drink and snacks will be provided.

We’re back! Thanks to all the legends who helped make this baby over. for the amazing flooring, for the beautiful new kitchen partition, for all the “simple” jobs we ask him to do, for his electrical handy work and all the customers who provided technical painting/flooring/trade advice and those who provided storage space whilst we busted our chops to get this done in 5 days. Now for some rest. 😴🛌
