The Australian cherry season has arrived. From November to February, these antioxidant-rich, scarlet gems grace our tables, bringing a touch of sweetness to both sweet and savoury dishes.

PURCHASING CHERRIES
When selecting cherries, look for those with vibrant green stems still attached. While the colour of cherries may vary by variety, they should all appear plump and have a glossy skin.

STORING CHERRIES
Cherries cease to ripen once picked, so it's best to consume them within 4-5 days of purchase. To extend their freshness, leave the stems intact. Store cherries in an airtight container or a plastic bag in the refrigerator, making sure they're loosely packed. You can also freeze pitted cherries for up to six months to enjoy their goodness year-round.

PREPARING CHERRIES
Before indulging in cherries, give them a quick rinse just before consumption. When using them in cooking, it's advisable to remove the stones.
