At Speaking of Learning, we celebrate and affirm this reform to prove evidence-based literacy education for all 👏👏👏
Speech Pathology Australia welcomes today's announcement by the Allan Labor Government to embed evidence-based teaching and learning practices in Victorian schools from 2025 – a priority SPA and the profession have long advocated for.
The focus on explicit teaching through systematic synthetic phonics, aligns with growing evidence that supports its effectiveness in teaching children to read.
As specialists in language development and communication disorders, speech pathologists are primed and committed to supporting the successful implementation of these reforms.

Wearing blue in honour of all our wonderful Speech Pathologists helping people across the lifespan to reach their full communication potential!
It’s hard to believe, but statistics show that 1 in 7 Australian’s will have a communication difficulty at some stage in their lives!
This could be needing help with late talking or support to say speech sounds or to speak fluently, it could be needing help with understanding and using language effectively, either socially or within the school curriculum, it could even be to help maintain voice quality or to learn to speak and swallow safely again after a stroke.
There are SO many areas across the lifespan that Certified Practicing Speech Pathologists are trained to support, and we love what we do 💙
We are thrilled to share with you that Speaking of Learning Speech Pathology has won an Enablement Award as The Most Outstanding Learning Speech Pathology Practice in Australia in 2023, under the ‘Disability Services’ category!
