Postpartum Depression (PPD) is a serious mental health issue that includes symptoms like excessive crying, feeling disconnected from your baby, feeling incompetent as a mother, overwhelming loss of energy, and severe anxiety and panic attacks. PPD is experienced by millions of women across the world, even though it’s only beginning to be destigmatised. There's this kind of myth that women couldn't possibly be depressed during pregnancy because it’s such a happy time. The reality is that many women struggle with anxiety and depression during pregnancy and during the postpartum period. An estimated one in seven women experiences depression during or after pregnancy.

The good news is that there are many resources. It can be particularly challenging to tackle PPD given the situation, but there are steps you can take to help manage it. Keeping me in tact

If you did not follow my last pregnancy, I have an incompetent cervix. Last pregnancy I went under emergency surgery at 12 weeks to 'stitch me up' to prevent premature labour. At 17 weeks I was admitted for kidney stones & told the stitch was failing & then classified as an 'extreme high risk' pregnancy.

As soon as I was discharged, along with 800mg of progesterone daily & almost on bed rest, unable to carry anything over 500g I went & bought a 'upsie'. By some miracle I made it to full term.


After this knowing I was planning another pregnancy I had a TAC placed after postpartum with a better success rate than the vaginal cerclages.

So I made it to 32 weeks & hoping to make it to full term again.

Although I do not have the same restrictions as my first pregnancy because the TAC has done its job superbly, I am still wearing the Belly Bandit Upsie not only for a bit of extra support but also because it helps to prevent pregnancy induced varicose veins, spider veins & haemorrhoids.

Post partum I wore and will wear again a Belly Bandit compression garment. I will fill you in how that progresses when the time arrives.
