Nick commenced working as a structural engineer with Connell Wagner in 2004. He pivoted his career towards the design of special structures, glass and façade systems when working with Dewhurst Macfarlane in New York from 2008-10.

Since 2011, Nick has been working as a façade specialist with Arup (initially in Melbourne, now based in Adelaide) and is presently the Building Envelope (façade) skills leader for Arup’s Australasia region.

Nick is driven to make an active contribution to building and maintaining a better, more sustainable built environment. Nick seeks to achieve this through high quality design, and a rigorous “first principles” design approach that challenges conventional thinking.

Elissa Stirling, Facade Specialist at Inhabit, will discuss her comprehensive approach to facade systems and project management at our Rainscreens: The Solution to Leaky Buildings, Mould and Thermal Bridges Live Webinar.

Elissa leads the Inhabit team in Melbourne across the specialist services of new build façade design including engineering, documentation and procurement, diagnostics and remedial solutions as well as ESD and acoustics. She is well known for her facade design skills and delivery across a variety of high-profile projects across all market sectors within the Victorian region.

With a formal background in architecture and construction management, she works with a collaborative approach with project teams. She has extensive project management experience and an astute commercial acumen in the areas of project design, coordination, contracting and client management.

Elissa has an extensive understanding of façade waterproofing and how façade systems are influenced by structural, mechanical, energy, thermal, daylighting, acoustic and fire considerations and how they affect the façade design outcome. Her in-depth knowledge of both the local façade market, as well as the capabilities of international players offers insight into the intricacies of façade procurement and delivery from a cost and carbon perspective. She uses this knowledge to convey understanding to project teams throughout the design process.

She is an advocate for the Façade Engineering profession and is working with many likeminded industry professionals to progress the industry in her role as Vice Chair for the Society of Façade Engineering ANZ Hub.

Jesse Clarke has more than 20 years’ experience in the construction industry. He holds the technical lead role of the Innovation and R&D Manager, servicing Australia and New Zealand. Jesse is an active advocate for a holistic approach to the development of industry guidance, standards and codes.

As the chairman of the AIRAH special technical group for building envelope physics he is driving standardisation around the use of hygrothermal analysis (WUFI®) for healthier and more durable buildings.

Hans Construct’s focus for this project was on creating flexible, well-defined spaces using high-quality materials that are both practical and aesthetically appealing.

The Jacaranda Finance Office Fitout is a perfect blend of functionality and design, where our Click-on Screens and Click-on Battens play a crucial role in shaping the modern, open-plan layout of this workspace.

To divide the office into distinct areas without compromising the sense of openness, Click-on Screens in American Oak were used as room dividers. The block profile battens, provide a sophisticated yet unobtrusive way to separate workspaces while maintaining a cohesive flow throughout the office.

NEW PROJECT 🌿✨ Embracing Nature's Beauty with Curved Aluminium Innovation at Tiwu Kumangka - Blackwood Community Hub

Our aluminium Click-on Battens perfectly capture the organic curves of tree branches that gracefully extend across the ceiling, bringing Architect Design Inc.'s tree canopy vision to life.

To create a striking sculptural effect with the curved aluminium battens while keeping costs in check, we collaborated with Design Inc. to standardise the radius, ultimately selecting a consistent 600mm for each curve. This decision helped us avoid the complexities of fabrication that could have led to variations in the anodised finish.

The outcome? A flawless fusion of artistry and practicality that reflects the beauty of nature within the space! 🌳💚

Tiwu Kumangka, also known as the Blackwood Library and Community Centre, is a vibrant community hub that brings together library services and communal spaces. Architects drew inspiration from the tree canopy which is clear in their design concept featuring our aluminium Click-on Battens taking on a new form, echoing the natural, organic lines of tree branches that trace the ceiling, creating a stunning feature.

Designed by Woods Bagot, Heritage Lanes takes into consideration the local climate, providing breathable spaces throughout that allow occupants to enjoy the subtropical weather of Brisbane. The building also pays tribute to the heritage of the site, which was once home to the old Brisbane Produce Exchange in the mid-1900s.

The award winning Te Arikinui Pullman Hotel stands as a beacon of outstanding hospitality in New Zealand, seamlessly integrating local culture with world-class design by architects, Warren and Mahoney.

Honouring the Tainui Iwi’s historical journey, the design concept “sea to sky” is evident throughout Te Arikinui. This theme is reflected in the materials and forms used, including our Sculptform Click-on Battens which add a natural textured element to the interiors.

The linearity of the placement of the battens in addition to the curved form adds another form of texture, accentuating the grandeur of the space and contribute to the aesthetic appeal but also enhance the acoustic properties of the spaces, ensuring a warm, inviting and peaceful atmosphere for guests as they check-in or relax in the lobby area.

We are thrilled to learn the IIDA Interior Design Competition has awarded the Embassy of Australia design with ‘Best of Competition’ prize.

We were honoured to work with Bates Smart on devising an innovative solution to sound absorption that was not only functional, but would create a visually stunning effect along the show stopping glass atrium, forming part of the ‘amazing layering of wood elements’ – Andrea Caputo, IIDA.

New Project ✨ Ramsgate

A high-end multi-residential development overlooking Bondi Beach, is expertly considered and designed by MHNDU to both complement and contrast its surroundings creating a dynamic and enduring urban presence.

A feature of Ramsgate’s design is the interplay of light and shadow with daylight shining through the spaces between our Click-on battens, screens and cladding. This thoughtful consideration of lighting adds depth and dimension, creating a living canvas that changes with the light throughout the day.
