The FSU began pushing for paid menstrual and menopause leave in 2021, securing it in several Enterprise Agreements since. But there's still more to do!

Join us on Thursday 19 September for our Breaking Taboos campaign launch. We'll break down workplace taboos and discuss our new menopause and menstrual leave framework.

Allianz has moved on their measly 1% pay offer… by a measly 1%. This still puts us at the absolute bottom rung of the ladder in the insurance sector. Not only that, this increase also excludes anyone earning over $100K.

Aaaaah no thanks, Allianz!

FSU National President Wendy Streets, alongside FSU members Caroline Troup, Rina Abbott-Jard, and Sacha Hammersely, and FSU Policy Officer Ange Budai, proudly joined the delegation to Canberra this week for Queensland Unions' reproductive leave campaign.

We're launching our 'Breaking Taboos' campaign on Thursday, 19 September. It's time to normalise conversations about menopause and menstruation, and break the taboos and stigma that hold back workers experiencing these symptoms in the workplace.

On R U OK? Day, big corporations love to put out muffins in the tea room, update their email signatures and pat themselves on the back without having done anything to actually support workers' mental health. Instead, things like our WFH and flexible working rights are under attack. That's why we're never going to stop fighting for progressive work conditions that genuinely improve our working lives!

At the FSU, we believe all workers deserve equal opportunity to participate in the workforce. For that to happen, employers must provide conditions that recognise and support the diverse needs of their employees, ensuring everyone has an equal footing.

ANZ Australia CEO Shayne Elliott got caught red-handed withholding the truth about closing regional branches in Katoomba and Murwillumbah, despite promising under oath that no regional closures would happen for three years.

Even with over 10,000 signatures begging ANZ to keep Katoomba open, the bank is pushing ahead. This blatant disregard for regional communities shows why Stephen Jones MP must act now! The Senate Inquiry’s recommendations to stop banks like ANZ from playing dirty needs to be enforced immediately.

Menopause and menstruation are natural parts of life. Our workplace policies should reflect that with supportive and inclusive leave options.

10/09/2024

We strongly support the need for comprehensive regulation of workplace surveillance to protect workers' rights and privacy. We have called for the introduction of a Privacy in Working Life Act that would prohibit unnecessary surveillance and ensure that workers are informed and consulted about any monitoring that does occur.

Allianz's proposal of a mere 2% annual guaranteed pay increase is an insult, especially when compared to the more competitive offers from our colleagues at IAG, BUPA, and Zurich. This latest offer simply doesn't measure up—we deserve more!

07/09/2024

We attended a hearing for the Inquiry into Workplace Surveillance this week and highlighted how many of our members are increasingly subjected to invasive monitoring practices. We're committed to ensuring your concerns are heard and addressed!

ANZ Australia thinks Katoomba isn't "regional" because of a technicality? Tell that to the 13,000 locals and tourists who now have to travel up to 90 minutes for in-person banking. This all could have been avoided if Stephen Jones MP would stop sitting on his hands and implement the recommendations from the Senate Inquiry’s report on regional bank closures.

Tell Minister Jones that he must urgently implement the report's recommendations here: https://fsu.org.au/Minister-Jones-Letter

Allianz’s offer of a 2% annual guaranteed pay increase is an insult when compared to our insurance sector colleagues at IAG, BUPA, and Zurich. This latest proposal falls short, we deserve better!

ANZ Australia promised not to close any regional branches for three years after acquiring Suncorp Bank, yet they've already announced closures in Katoomba and Murwillumbah. Stephen Jones MP must stop sitting on his hands and do something to stop further branch closures. We won’t accept inaction.

We're launching our campaign, Breaking taboos, on Thursday 19 September (Finance Industry Equal Pay Day)!

It’s time we normalise talking about menopause and menstruation and break the taboos and stigma that hold back workers who suffer these symptoms in the workplace.

We’ll also be releasing our menopause and menstruation leave framework, aimed at providing vital information about the importance of paid leave and providing support to workers who are struggling to balance the symptoms of menopause and menstruation with work.

Allianz's proposal of a mere 2% annual guaranteed pay increase is an insult, especially when compared to the more competitive offers from our colleagues at IAG, BUPA, and Zurich.

To that we say, "aaaah no thanks, Allianz"!

As the finance sector evolves, so too does the landscape of workplace surveillance. We attended a hearing for the Inquiry into Workplace Surveillance today and highlighted how many of our members are increasingly subjected to invasive monitoring practices. New ‘right to disconnect’ laws have come into effect across Australia last week. This means we have the right to refuse contact from our employer outside working hours – including calls and emails – unless that refusal is unreasonable.

02/09/2024

As workplace surveillance becomes more invasive, the FSU is stepping up to protect your right to privacy. We’re advocating for stronger regulations to ensure that your privacy is respected. Together, we can stop unnecessary and intrusive monitoring in its tracks.

AI’s ability to process large amounts of data and make decisions about worker performance and behaviour, often without transparency, further highlights the need for robust regulatory frameworks.

Commonwealth Bank announced a mind-blowing annual profit of $9.84 billion. Only weeks ago, they pled guilty to criminal charges for failing to pay more than $69,000 in long service leave entitlements and were fined $36,000. The country’s leading bank should be a leader in their employment conditions and practices and not just a leader in making money from its customers!

Insurance companies are outrageously hiking premiums while neglecting fair pay for their workers.

QBE has refused since 2019 to negotiate for fair pay and conditions with its workforce.

Similarly at Suncorp, it has been nearly a decade since the company negotiated with its workforce over pay and conditions, despite posting stellar profits.

The insurance and finance industry also has one of the largest gender pay gaps, with the average base salary gender pay gap at 20 per cent, and the average total gender pay gap at 26.2 per cent. IAG has a gender pay gap of a staggering 27.5 per cent!

More money in your pocket, more time with your loved ones and more freedom to live your life – that’s what the right to disconnect is all about!

30/08/2024

QBE Insurance Australia has refused since 2019 to negotiate for fair pay and conditions with its workforce, despite earning $3.2 million per employee last year, or $170,000 in profit per employee.
