It’s Dental Health Week!
Dental Health Week (DHW) is the Australian Dental Association’s (ADA) major annual oral health campaign. It takes place each year in the first full week of August. The campaign focuses on the importance of taking steps to care for your teeth and gums to help you keep your teeth and smile for life.
This year, DHW is focusing on the mouth and whole-body connection. There are links between diseases in the mouth and diseases in the body. Bacteria in the mouth can travel to different sites of the body and inflammation in the mouth can increase the body’s overall inflammation. Six conditions have been explored in how they link with the mouth:
- Heart Disease
- Diabetes
- Alzheimer's Disease
- Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes
- Lung Conditions
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease
To learn more about the link between these conditions and the mouth visit teeth.org.au

Baby teeth are so important!
They act as placeholders for permanent teeth, help with chewing and the development of facial bones and muscles, aid in speech development, and help teach good dental care. Baby teeth also play a role in a child’s confidence and self-esteem.
Be sure to bring your child into the dentist for regular checkups to ensure that their teeth develop healthy.
Love your SMILE! This year is already moving by so quickly! Don’t forget to schedule in your regular checkup and clean to maintain good oral health 🙌🏼😀
You can conveniently book online!
This is your new year to shine bright! There’s nothing better than a positive attitude, doing the things you love for yourself and others around you. Happy New Year! 🥳
#2023
Did you know that for a lost of dental health funds, annual benefits will expire by the end of next month?
Now is the time to make sure that you make the most of it by maintaining your oral health, or completing any existing dental treatment you may have been putting off.
October is international breast cancer awareness month 💕 It provides an opportunity for us all to focus on breast cancer and its impact on those affected by the disease in our community.
Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Australian women (excluding non-melanoma skin cancer). Survival rates continue to improve in Australia with 89 out of every 100 women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer now surviving five or more years beyond diagnosis.
Take the time this month to find out what you need to know about breast awareness and share this important information with your family, friends and colleagues.

Did you know that children between the ages of 0 and 17 may be eligible for free dental care? Through the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), they can have up to $1026 in services every two years. Your family must receive a government benefit such as the Family Tax Benefit Part A for your child to be eligible.
Lung cancer continues to be one of the most common cancers worldwide, claiming more lives yearly than breast, colon, and prostate cancers combined. It is estimated that lung cancer accounts for nearly one in five cancer deaths globally.
What can you do?
1. Adopt healthy habits
Avoid smoking, plant more trees around you, get air-purifying houseplants, and help others quit using to***co products too. Do what you can to make the environment a lung-friendly one, for both you and your loved ones.
2. Push lung cancer screening
Know anyone with symptoms of lung cancer? Encourage them to screen for lung cancer, as recommended by experts. Lead by example and make a screening appointment for yourself too.
3.Join the fight against lung cancer
Check out what local cancer clinics and medical institutions have in store for this day. Contribute your way by sharing your knowledge of this day and its cause.
Open up and say “Ahhhh, it’s so nice to see you!”
Chewing ice is quite common and some
people think it's completely normal…
Well it's not good for your teeth!
• Chewing ice can damage your teeth
• Can damage restorations (fillings, crowns) and braces
• It creates huge stress on your teeth and your jaw (temporoandibular joint)
So think before you go to chew on a block of ice next time! 😬

Say Cheese!
Women smile more often than men do. Yep. According to a Yale Research, the average woman smiles 62 times per day, while the average man smiles only 8 times a day. The research also points out that the difference in both genders’ smile rate is bigger when they are younger, specifically in their teenage. Although this difference is modest when individuals enter adulthood.
Many reasons have been cited for this difference: women tend to be more expressive, empathetic, and naturally emotional; amongst other factors.
The most important thing? Just smile and be happy!
Previously unknown health risks for Australians – that gum disease suffered by one in three Australian adults could increase the risk of serious cardiovascular events, Type 2 diabetes and adverse pregnancy outcomes – are now coming to light following decades of dental and medical studies.
The Australian Dental Association (ADA) wants to alert Australians to the very close links between what goes on in their mouths and the far-reaching effects on the rest of the body.
The latest research across a range of studies has shown that people with advanced gum disease (periodontitis) have a much higher risk of a heart attack than people without it.

Just because your teeth don’t hurt yet, that doesn’t mean you should postpone your routine check-up. Preventative dental care is the only way to ensure you do your best to prevent cavities and promote good oral health.

Braces and clear aligners have become common treatments for both teenagers and adults who want a straighter, more beautiful looking smile. A pretty smile is nice, but there are also oral health benefits of braces, some of which may surprise you, such as:
- An improved bite and jaw alignment
- More confidence
- Better oral care
With improved function of your smile, better oral care habits and more confidence, the benefits of teeth straightening are more than just a nice-looking smile.
