Heidelberg Theatre Company is one of the most successful and respected non-professional theatre companies in Vic since its inception in 1952.

'AN IDEAL HUSBAND' CAST

Chookas 🐥 to the cast and crew of Heidelberg Theatre Company production of And A Nightingale Sang by C.P. Taylor that opens TONIGHT Fri 6th and runs til 21st Sept. This is their VDL entry: Drama.
Directed by Llaaneath Poor, This play tells of the loves, fears and joys of a Newcastle family during World War Two. Helen is stoical, self-effacing and walks with a limp; her grandfather Andie recruits mourners to attend the burial of his dog; her devout Catholic mother frets about the local priest’s health; her father serenades an unwilling audience with popular songs; and younger sister Joyce dithers over a marriage proposal.�They all try their best to get on with their lives while the bombs fall around them.

Meet our director, Llaaneath Poor, who has been a member of HTC virtually since birth and a second generation director. Llaaneath will be familiar to audiences, having been involved in many productions. Favourite acting credits include Rumors, Ladies in Black, It’s a Wonderful Life, & Three Sisters at Heidelberg, not to mention numerous other theatres around Melbourne. She has dedicated this production to the memory of the late George Tranter, who designed this and many other sets around Melbourne’s community theatres.

Introducing Jim Thomson - George Stott
The role of 'George (Da)' will be played by Jim Thomson in HTC's 'And a Nightingale Sang'. Jim has been a member of Heidelberg Theatre Company for over 20 years and has been involved in almost every production in some way throughout most of those years. He was last seen at HTC as Major Courtney in “The Lady Killers” early in 2023.

Introducing Wayne Gleeson - Norman
To round out the talented cast of HTC's 'And a Nightingale Sang', Wayne Gleeson plays Norman. Wayne has performed at various theatre companies around Melbourne and is delighted to return to the stage at Heidelberg Theatre Company following his role as Glenn Cooper in HTC's first season of the year 'Rumors'.

Introducing Sam Howard - Eric
Sam Howard returns to the HTC stage in the role of 'Eric' in the HTC production 'And a Nightingale Sang'. Audiences will remember Sam from his many comic performances over the years, including as the fire-obsessed Doug in "Cosi". He loves Heidelberg Theatre Company like a second home and looks forward to seeing you there!

Introducing Phil Holmes - Andie
The role of 'Andie' (Granda) is played by Phil Holmes in HTC's upcoming production of 'And a Nightingale Sang'. This is only Phil's second appearance on stage at HTC but he has been a regular performer around the traps, and when not performing, can be found backstage or at HTC set builds… including ones for this play!

Introducing Maree Barnett - Peggy Stott
Playing the role of Helen's Mum, 'Peggy (Ma)' in 'And a Nightingale Sang' at HTC is Maree Barnett. Maree is a Graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Having extensive experience in Film, TV, Theatre and Musicals, she loves it all! She has performed in numerous shows at Heidelberg Theatre Company including Cloudstreet, The Three Sisters, Australia Day, Inheritance, Tartuffe and most recently Ladies in Black.

In the role of 'Joyce' in 'And a Nightingale Sang' at Heidelberg Theatre is Aislinn Ryan. This is Aislinn’s second appearance with Heidelberg Theatre Company after making her debut in Ladies in Black last year, and she is delighted to be back on stage in this beautiful play. Aislinn’s family has been involved with HTC for many years, and she is delighted to be part of this vibrant community herself. She hopes you enjoy the show!

Introducing Casey Bohan - Helen Stott
Welcome Casey Bohan playing the role of 'Helen' in our upcoming production of 'And a Nightingale Sang'. Casey is a passionate performer with a deep interest in exploring character and text on stage. Casey’s previous stage roles include Sabina in The Skin Of Our Teeth (ETC), Eve in Myth, Propaganda and Disaster (La Mama) and Jean in The Revlon Girl (BTC). This is Casey’s Heidelberg debut, she is thrilled to share this touching story with the HTC audiences.
