Quadstock 2024 was an epic night to remember! The Slab turned into a musical wonderland as our Queeners took the stage with amazing performances that lit up the night. The atmosphere was electric, with everyone coming together to celebrate the incredible talent within our college. A huge shoutout to all the performers and the behind-the-scenes crew who made this magical evening possible.

It’s Angels & Mortals Week - one in a series of (voluntary) community events involving the whole College. Whilst most of our community events are fun and/or silly, Angels & Mortals Week is one of connection and heartwarming surprises.

At the start of this week, Queeners (the Mortal) are each assigned a secret Angel (another Queener). The Angel's mission? To get to know their Mortal and create an extraordinary week for them! Each day, they'll sprinkle a little magic with thoughtful gestures like helpful deeds, yummy treats, uplifting notes, small crafted gifts, or any burst of creativity they can dream up. It truly is the thought that counts! 🎁✨

Like all angels, they must keep their wings under wraps and remain unseen and unknown to their Mortal. 🕊️🤐

At Queen’s, we are fortunate to host distinguished scholars who temporarily reside with us, sharing their wealth of experience and knowledge with our community. We were delighted to once again welcome John McCarthy AO, a former diplomat and ambassador to the United States, Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Japan.

During a special lunch event, Mr. McCarthy captivated our students and Wyverns with his talk on "Australian Foreign Policy: The Contest between History and Geography." His insights, drawn from a lifetime of diplomatic service, provided invaluable perspectives on foreign policy.

We are grateful for the opportunity to learn from such an esteemed friend of Queen’s.

Special congratulations to Isla King (1st Yr, Commerce) who won the competition with her topic of ‘Should voting be compulsory in australia?’.

🚣Intercollegiate Rowing Regatta 2024 🚣‍♀️
The annual regatta is always a fantastic morning on the Yarra - watermelon helmets, BBQ breakfast, and the whole College turning out to support our rowers.

As is now tradition, the Men’s 2nd VIII shaved truly hideous hairstyles to raise over $3000 for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Congratulations to all our rowers who took part - most in the 2nds teams rowing for the first time! - and especially to our Men’s and Women’s 1st VIII crews who both placed second overall.

Our CareerReady Dinner was an invaluable evening bringing together current students and our Wyverns (alumni) for a night of meaningful conversations and networking. Our residents had the opportunity to discover new career options and learn how the path to a successful career is frequently not a straight line.

We are very grateful to our 30+ Wyverns who joined us, generously sharing their wisdom and experience across various industries - truly a treasure trove of guidance for our students. It is a measure of how valued this evening was that conversations were still flowing an hour after the dinner officially ended!

This dinner is a one component of our extensive CareerReady program, designed to equip our students with the knowledge and connections needed to thrive after university.

🎉✨ What an unforgettable evening at the Queens College Charity Ball! This year's 'Carnival in Rio' theme brought out some stunning looks with Queeners and friends lighting up the night in style. 🌟💃

The amazing Groove Nation Band and DJ WOLTERS kept our feet moving all night long before we took the fun over to Spice Market for the afterparty!

We're thrilled to announce that the Ball, along with support from Carlton Brewery House, raised over $4500 for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. 🙏💖

Special shoutout to our Ball Committee for making this event a smashing success.

Dine With A Scholar is a series of casual lunches and dinners that we host throughout the year providing an opportunity for our students to interact with an expert in their academic or professional field.

We were delighted to welcome Distinguished Professor Susan Scott as our first guest. Professor Scott works at the Centre for Gravitational Astrophysics at ANU and has made ground-breaking discoveries in the fields of general relativity and gravitational wave science.

Our students relished the chance to discover more about black holes and gravitational waves, especially as Professor Scott was able to make the subject matter accessible and understandable. It was also fascinating hearing her experience in academia and how she was able to achieve success, particularly how her team was able to overcome the doubt that surrounded their work before they discovered the first gravitational wave.

Commencement Dinner - a wonderful start to the year with an evening of friendships and celebration for our entire community.

It was also an evening to recognise the achievements of those awarded scholarships and of our senior residents who had scored a Wyvern medal for academic achievement. We were particularly delighted to welcome Wyverns, Daniel Moorfield (1989) and Fleur Maidment (1987), who support the Outer Metropolitan Scholarship, and were able to present it to Francesca Montgomery (2nd Yr, Arts).

Kicking off the first official event for 2024, we were delighted to welcome our Middle Common Room (MCR) and senior resident tutors to Queen's! With our post-grad students coming from across Australia and internationally, it was a delightful evening getting to know each other with such a wide spread of expertise and interests.

We are now looking forward to welcoming all our new undergraduate residents who will be arriving in less than 24 hours time!

On a perfect spring evening, Wyverns from across the decades returned to Queen’s for the 2023 Wyvern Society Dinner marking 50 years of women in residence. From cocktails on the Slab to dinner in a stunningly lit Eakins Hall, it was an evening of stories and renewed friendships.

We were delighted to welcome five women from the 1973 cohort - the first women to reside at Queen’s College - Heather Carr, Carolyn Graham, Lynn Hunt, Sue Smith and Amanda Stone.

Arch Wyvern, Louise Ryan (1977) announced the Wyvern of the Year - Professor Alicia Oshlack (1994). Awarded for her contribution to science and equality for women, Alicia currently heads the Computational Biology Programme at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, has been recognised by the science community including the Gani Medal for Human Genetics from the Australian Academy of Science, and has been working to gain equity for women in science for 20 years with a range of initiatives.

It was a wonderful evening of recognition, celebration and friendships!

The Collegians Dinner was a wonderful night of celebration honouring the outstanding achievements of our Queen's College community, including the winners of the Willie Quick competition, MADS, and sports accolades, as well as the exceptional recipients of Wyvern awards for academic excellence.

A special moment was the announcement of our Sportspeople of the Year - Marnie Regan and Archie Bain.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Collegian of the Year award, recognizing those who've made significant contributions to our College and community.

Congratulations to the 2023 Collegians of the Year: Lua Jarrah, Tom Ingram (JCR), and Tomoko Inazawa (MCR).

It was a glorious day for Bentley Day on Sunday - part celebration of our beloved goat mascot (Bentley Still) and part kick-off for the final term of the uni year.

Highlights included the IFVB (InterFloor VolleyBall) Grand Final - a fiercely contested corridor vs corridor sport - loosely based on volleyball, but where the spectators can become participants, distractions and interference are encouraged, and referees can change the rules at a moment's notice. The Grand Final saw 3N face off against 3J with 3J taking the honours!

Other highlights of the day included the watermelon rugby match between the old and new General Committee, various sideshow rides, and the inter-corridor dance off.
