We are so excited when she shares with us her seaweed, pear and sugar snap salad recipes and a little note about seaweed pairing and it’s prebiotic properties. INGREDIENTS
1 x Red Angel Pear
1/2 x Lebanese Cucumber
1 x Handful of Sugar Snap Peas
3 x Radishes
1 x small Cos Lettuce
10g of Alg Rainbow Seaweed Flakes
3 tbsp Rice Wine Vinegar
1/2 cup Olive oil
1 tbsp Maple Syrup
1 tsp Pink Peppercorns

METHOD
1. Thinly slice the pear, cucumber, sugar snap peas
and radishes, then place in a large mixing bowl.
Roughly chop the cos lettuce and add to the
same salad bowl.
2. Sprinkle Alg Rainbow Seaweed Flakes through
the salad mix.
3. Lightly crush the pink peppercorns in a mortar
and pestle. Add crushed peppercorns to a glass
jar along with the rice wine vinegar, olive oil and
maple syrup. Shake to combine the dressing.
4. Add the desired amount of dressing to your
salad just before serving.

So easy and refreshing 💚

Now that the Sydney Good Food and Wine Show Christmas Market is done and dusted, the biggest highlight was meeting everyone in person, whether they were new or long-term supporting customers, or chefs. I bumped into Chef Elijah Attard and Chef Nina ‘Teddy’ Huynh at the Carriageworks Market on the weekend. Even after only a few Instagram interactions, it feels like we’ve all known each other for a while.

Here is one of their creations, which I hope to taste one day upon my return: Fennel Pollen Tart + Honeydew Melon Noodles + Almond Garlic Puree + Alg Seaweed Wakame Powder + Micro Dill. They are hosting a pop-up vegan dining experience, and it’s one you shouldn’t miss.

❤️ Happy International Poke Day ❤️

When we first started Alg Seaweed, we asked people how do they eat seaweed. Most would say only in sushi. Fast forward to the latest food show, more people say they sprinkle seaweed on poke bowls. It’s also our #1 shared recipe by our customers.

To celebrate, we are circling back to a couple of poke recipes we have on our website.

A marinaded salmon one with Rainbow Seaweed Seasoning and Bush Tucker. The other one is a vegan version made with Bush Tucker and Rainbow Seaweed Salt. Both links are on our website.

Here’s some background on poke if you are interested:

The poke bowl originated in Hawaii. "Poke" (pronounced poh-kay) means "to slice" or "cut crosswise into pieces" in Hawaiian. The dish traditionally consists of chunks of fresh, raw fish (usually tuna or salmon) that are marinated in a soy sauce-based sauce and served over a bed of rice, often accompanied by various toppings like seaweed, avocado, cucumber, and sesame seeds. It has its roots in Hawaiian cuisine and has evolved over the years with the influence of Japanese and other Asian flavors. Poke bowls gained popularity in the mainland United States and internationally, becoming a trendy and customisable dish.

HAPPY DIETITIANS DAY! 🙌🙌

Today, I reflect on my career as a dietitian which got me to where I am today. When I had my private practice, I sometimes took my clients to cook with me rather than a sit-down consultation and I called them ‘Cooksultations’✨! It was such a powerful experience because rather than handing over a recipe, we get to cook, taste and more importantly, connect.

I see Alg Seaweed the extention to that but getting to reach more people at the one time. You may think we just sell seaweed but my bigger WHY is to connect with people through food. We hope to bring joy to meal times, using seaweed as the SEA-cret ingredient ! 🫶🏻

Last month we welcomed two Bachelor of Nutrition Science students from Monash University Katrina and Helen. It is part of their university subject to go on a 12-weeks placement in the industry to gain real life experience.

I am a big believer in having students in the workplace. Throughout my career, I was fortunate enough to have mentors and greata teachers to shape me to who I am today. I dipped my toe in different areas of dietetics before landing on food entreprenurship.

Without experience and guidance, it's really hard to negivate career paths so we are paying it forward and hope Katrina and Helen have a great time with us. Here is an afternoon making, styling and shooting a cauliflower recipe together 🙌
