Tomorrow is Wear it Purple Day, and we’re proud to show our support for young people from the LGBTQIA+ community.
Wear It Purple Day was established in 2010 to empower and foster inclusive environments for young people identifying as a part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
In this vein, we hosted a webinar for our team today – ‘You Can’t Ask That’ – which was inspired by the ABC series of the same name. Our panellists answered questions about gender identity, gender expression and the important role we all have to be an ally.
As a Group, we aspire to be a place where our people are comfortable bringing their whole selves to work, a place where we can all feel safe being our authentic selves, a place where our diversity is supported and celebrated.

👋 Meet Dave 👋
Dave is a Primary Plant Engineer working on our electricity network in Melbourne’s north-west. As well as the chance to wear high-vis and get out in the field to see what makes the network work, Dave enjoys the challenges of working towards the energy transition. As he says, making sure everyone has access in the future to renewable energy is really important, and provides a good sense of purpose.
If this sounds good to you, come and join our team! You can join our talent community, sign up for job alerts and apply for available roles at www.jemena.com.au/careers
We’ve been a proud supporter of the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Queensland for the past few years, so we were incredibly pleased to see the first sod turned at their new Mt Isa aeromedical base.
As an owner and operator of energy infrastructure in remote and regional parts of this country, we are very aware of the value of RFDS to those communities. We’re really pleased to make our contribution to improving their services and keeping them flying.
The new base is expected to be completed mid-2025. It will have a dedicated ambulance bay, patient transfer facilities and admin space – the RFDS says it will provide a significant improvement in patient care across Queensland’s growing north-western region.
Congratulations to the RFDS!
👏👏What an honour to be recognised by Energy Networks Australia and on the shortlist for the 2024 Consumer Engagement Award! 👏👏
As a part of Jemena’s Electricity Network’s 2026-31 Price Reset, a comprehensive engagement strategy was developed and implemented over 18 months to shape the future of our electricity network.
We created six dedicated Customer Voice groups for customers experiencing vulnerability. Undergoing this process meant Jemena has greater insights and increased knowledge of our customers’ needs.
Customers told us they felt like they were being included, heard and having a direct influence on the future of Jemena’s electricity network.
That’s a win-win for both parties!
To learn more about our Price Reset process and pricing and services plan for our electricity network visit:

Jemena’s Major Users Customer Forum is always a great opportunity to bring together NSW’s largest gas users for information sharing and networking and this year was no different.
In the morning, attendees took a tour of the Malabar Biomethane Injection Plant. It was helpful for customers to see the process in action, and it sparked valuable discussions about the future of renewable gas ahead of the forum itself.
The event brought together speakers from across Jemena including Managing Director, David Gillespie who spoke about the current state of play and how Jemena is navigating the energy transition while at the same time ensuring our customers have access to reliable gas.
A huge thank you to all who attended including our external speakers from Valorify, Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), Ramboll, Future Fuels CRC and Energy Users Association of Australia

We’re a founding supporter of Foundation to Future – a new initiative supporting Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory into meaningful work.
Our Executive General Manager, People, Safety and Governance Craig Ypinazar was recently at the Foundation to Future launch with our partner, Saltbush Social Enterprises, who will be giving enduring support to job-seekers, ranging from initial self-esteem and life-skills development, through to jobs and career exploration with intensive mentoring and support around employment choices and beyond.
We’ve been a proud supporter of Saltbush dating back to 2016, as part of our Reconciliation journey, and we’re particularly proud to support them as they seek to make a step-change in the lives of Indigenous people in the NT, through providing tailored, personalised support.

The rising cost of living pressures in Australia, energy affordability and reliability are a few top concerns we’re hearing from our customers and these concerns are top of mind for our seniors just as much as they are for other customers.
We have been engaging deeply with our Seniors Customer Voice Group to understand their views and preferences to help shape the future of energy for our Electricity Distribution Regulatory Proposal for 2026-31.
We spoke to Sandra Centofanti, our General Manager, Customer and Commercial who is the Champion for our Senior Customer Voice Group, about her experience.
“Accepting the role of Customer Champion was a no brainer for me. I look after the Customer and Commercial team across Jemena networks and being an advocate for all customers across our Group, is just part of my role. To be part of the group, listen, understand what this group’s unique circumstances were and are. It’s really important to understand what’s driving customers today and make sure that what they’re saying we’re actually translating into our price reset.”
For Jemena, the Price Reset is an opportunity to confirm customer product and service expectations and secure revenue to support efficient investment and operations to deliver these expectations.
We will submit an initial proposal to the AER on 30 January 2025.

Cold air coming through doors or windows?
Winter energy tip: Installing draft stoppers around doors and windows can be an easy fix to stop cold air from coming inside. This can make a big difference to the temperature inside your home, especially during the early hours of the morning.

Could you walk 35km in one day? That’s exactly what our Stakeholder and Approvals Manager Jodi Wood did last month when she took part in the Bloody Long Walk in Brisbane to raise money for mitochondrial disease - a genetic disorder that robs the body’s cells of energy, causing organ dysfunction or failure. Jodi raised more than $1,200 to help fund essential research and support people affected by the disease. What an amazing effort Jodi!!
Jemena is proud to support the volunteering and fundraising efforts of our people by contributing $500 towards eligible fundraising events and organisations where our people regularly volunteer their time.
Senior leaders across our Group recently embarked on an Environment Leadership Walk, visiting the Zinfra Pakenham Depot, and the Longford Compressor Station which delivers gas to VIC, NSW, ACT, and TAS.
The immersive walk was designed to deepen understanding of the environmental aspects associated with the work we do each day to deliver energy to homes and businesses.
It was a memorable experience for all involved - especially getting up close to the compressors and turbines at the compressor station. Importantly, the walk facilitated discussions on opportunities for enhancements in line with our commitment to caring for our people, the environment, and the community. You can learn more about this commitment at our Sustainability Hub: www.sustainability.jemena.com.au.
Did you know we have a proud history of partnering with Indigenous communities throughout the development of major projects and in areas where we operate?
Our partnerships have included the ‘Pipeline to Success’ program with Saltbush Social Enterprises which has evolved into the ‘Foundation to Future’ program, a wholistic support service that will target Aboriginal people from a number of entry pathways.
And through our annual Community Grants program, we have provided support to a range of Indigenous led and focused initiatives. We also donate to groups that support young people’s education, health and wellbeing and connection to culture.
We have a strong desire to continue to build on these foundations through the commitments we make in our recently launched Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which will see us develop more opportunities for Indigenous community involvement through our RAP commitment of Connecting to Country – Connecting with Community.
You can read our Innovate RAP at our Sustainability Hub: https://www.sustainability.jemena.com.au/innovate-reconciliation-action-plan-rap/
Great to build relationships during a recent visit to our Western Sydney Hydrogen Hub with an Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) delegation of energy officials from Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) countries.
The visit was part of DFAT’s ongoing support to the Asian Development Bank as secretariat for the GMS Energy Transition Taskforce. Broadly, the group supports GMS cooperation on promoting regional power trading and enhancing energy efficiency.
We were able to share insights on our renewable energy programs, such as the Western Sydney Hydrogen Hub which is demonstrating how hydrogen could play a leading role in emissions reduction. You can learn more about our vision for the future of gas at www.jemena.com.au/future-energy/future-gas/
Are you a policy wiz looking for a new challenge?
We are seeking a diligent and experienced Senior Policy Advisor to join our Government Relations and Policy team and play a crucial role in shaping the energy landscape by engaging with policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
It’s an important role at an important time for our business. If this sounds interesting to you, you can learn more and apply at www.jemena.com.au/careers.
Have you seen our amazing Innovate RAP artwork by Chern'ee Sutton Art, a proud Kalkadoon woman & Aboriginal artist from Mount Isa?
Some fun facts about this artwork:
🟠 The orange circle in her painting represents the sun, and just like the sun, we provide energy
🐍 The rainbow serpent represents respect, connection to the land and Aboriginal people and culture, with the coloured dotted circles in the background symbolising the rugged Australian landscape on which we work.
We thank Chern’ee for sharing her culture and history through her art.
There is so much more meaning included in this artwork – you can learn more about it and our commitment to ‘Connecting to Country – Connecting with Community’ in our recently launched Innovate RAP: https://www.sustainability.jemena.com.au/innovate-reconciliation-action-plan-rap/

What temperature is your heater set to today?
Winter energy tip: We know it can be tempting to turn the heating up high first thing on those cold mornings, but keeping the temperature on your heater between 18-20 degrees is cost effective while also keeping your home warm. Each additional degree can add between 5-10% to your energy use.

We know that 3 in 10* people living in Australia were born overseas and that they face greater challenges when navigating the energy transition.
As part of Jemena’s Electricity Distribution Regulatory Proposal for 2026-31, we have been engaging deeply with customers from a multicultural background to understand their views and preferences when it comes to the future of energy.
We spoke to Johan Ng, our Commercial Manager for Electricity Distribution and Customer Voice Group Champion for customers from a multicultural background, about his experience.
“I’m passionate about customers. That’s what I do. That’s what I deal with every day so it’s really ensuring that we have an opportunity to go out and listen to our customers and get their opinions, it hit home for me. Being part of a multicultural background myself, I can empathise and understand where they are coming from. The fact that I can go in there and support them to ensure their voices are being heard is really valuable.”
For Jemena, the Price Reset is an opportunity to confirm customer product and service expectations and secure revenue to support efficient investment and operations to deliver these expectations. Jemena will submit an initial proposal to the AER on 30 January 2025.

In case you missed it...our Gas Networks’ 2025 Plan was submitted to the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) this month.
If you don’t know us, we’re your local gas network. We transport the gas you use every day, and we’ve been on a journey with our customers that has spanned more than 18 months, 206 hours' worth of engagement, and just under 100 separate engagement events.
Our 2025 Plan details our pricing and services for the 2025-30 period and reflects what our customers have told us is important to them. It includes 10 initiatives, shaped by our customers, for us to action:
🔵 Invest in renewable gas connections
🟢 Speed up the recovery of $300m in assets
🔵 Take a targeted approach to gas mains replacement
🟢 Invest in technology (Picarro cars) to detect gas leaks
🔵 Increase the user pays portion of new connections
🟢 Enhance our vulnerable customer program
🔵 Replace 8,000 aging, defective and hard-to-reach meters with new digital meters
🟢 Retain a user pays approach to permanent disconnections
🔵 Implement changes to our tariff structures
🟢 Implement a hybrid form of price control
We believe our 2025 Plan balances the needs of our customers today with future generations, mainly through upfront actions and investment that is aimed at supporting a fair and equitable energy transition. The AER will now review and assess our plan.

It was a big NAIDOC Week across our Group!
From a performance by the Djirri Djirri Wurundjeri female dance group at our Melbourne office, to taking part in a Traditional Owners community meal in Mount Isa, to enjoying morning tea supplied by Indigenous caterers in our North Sydney office, to a dot-painting activity at our Greystanes Depot, there were plenty of opportunities for our people across the country to get involved.
We were also proud extend our partnership with Saltbush Social Enterprises to support their Foundation to Future initiative, which launched during NAIDOC Week and will help disadvantaged and regional Aboriginal job-seekers into meaningful work.
And we’re working towards our Group’s new Innovate RAP as we explore further how we can support local Indigenous communities with education, health, employment and commercial initiatives while also listening to the stories and experiences of our Indigenous team members, customers, and communities.

It’s here! Proudly announcing that our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) has been formally approved and endorsed by Reconciliation Australia.
When we started our journey towards reconciliation through the launch of our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan in 2020, it became a key platform for building strong relationships, and gaining a better understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, cultures, and histories.
Our Innovate RAP builds on this and will see us embed cultural awareness and understanding across our Group, develop more opportunities for Indigenous employment, and engage Traditional Owners on our projects and in communities through our RAP theme and commitment of ‘Connecting to Country – Connecting with Community’.
Check it out! You can read our Innovate RAP at our Sustainability Hub here: https://ow.ly/VA1u50Szhrm
