A little hidden plan in the last budget was an amnesty from the ATO allowing small businesses to bring their affairs up to date without any late lodgement fines. Well its that time of the year with the budget just around the corner we get to see some early "leaks" of what we can expect to see. This one looks like a good one. Of course we need to see more detail before acting but I'm sure it will have many of my clients interested.

As accountants we get to see the financial side of people with mental health issues - the ignored emails, unopened bills and long overdue payments. Martin Spiers recently completed a Mental Health First Aider Course for finance professionals through Deakin Uni so he can recognise the symptoms and have a conversation to encourage someone to get help. Some really worthwhile training!!

According to my marketing plan, this week I am supposed to write an article about the tax changes that would arise from the election. For the first time in many elections, tax was very much off the radar so not much has changed.

The ALP have indicated support for the phase 3 tax cuts that are already legislated and they are adopting the OECD recommendations around taxation of multinationals. (The taxation of multinational seems to be a major push from them).

They have also promised to continue with the increase to superannuation guarantee to 12% and will put a plan together to push on to 15%.

So there you have it, this could be the shortest post election "article" I've had to do.
