‘A Sea of Hearts’.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all of us to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2023 is 'Be a voice for Generations’.

In recognition of NRW, the children of Little Hideaway have created a ‘sea of hearts’ which we have put on display for our local community to visit, reflect and add to.

➡️ If you are from Cameron Park or surrounding community’s, other FDCs, LDCs or your children have seen our display and want to add to it- please feel free to add to our sea and send us a photo of your heart so we can show our children the hearts that are being added to our sea, we will also be visiting each day on our morning walks to reflect.

At Little Hideaway, we are committed to playing our part towards achieving a reconciled future for all. We believe reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds, and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Our sea of hearts can be found on the black fence along Jupiter Circuit near the pond 💗

B U S H W A L K S 🌿🍂🌻
Benefits of Nature walks-

Going on a nature walk and deliberately noticing things encourages children to observe with all their senses. A nature walk can help children learn to focus their attention and take in the details of things around them. A nature walk can be a peaceful, exciting and reflective experience for both the children and the Educator.

Recently the children of Little H have been going on daily bush walks. Throughout these walks the children and Educator have payed specific attention to the environment in which they are exploring enabling all of their senses to run wild as they take in each new environment they discover.

Throughout these walks the children an educator have conversations on these newly explored outdoor environments.

The Educator asks questions relating to each specific sense that the children are using whilst they are outdoors exploring.

These questions include;

•Seeing questions: what can you see? Look all around you, up at the sky and down at the ground.

•Smelling questions: what can you smell? Can you describe the smell? Leafy? Like mud?

•Hearing questions: what can you hear? Birds? The wind? Other people?

•Feeling and touching questions: what can you feel? Is the sun warm? Is the ground rough or smooth?

Throughout the walk the children each carry their own special basket where they are able to collect small items such as leaves, sticks, pebbles and feathers. These items are then bought back to Little H where the children and educator explore them further during group times, discussing as a small group the types of things they have found and where they have come from for example, ‘What kind of bird do you think this came from?’ and ‘What a pretty pattern on that leaf!’

These types of questions can then start a conversation about why it’s important to respect the environment we live in For example, ‘Our environment allows us to live and breathe in. We need to care for it, and show it love and respect so that it can live too’.

The children are absolutely loving these new daily adventures 🍂

🌾🌿🍃

I’ve been a little slack with updating the page for all our followers to view the special things that we get to do each day at Little H 😅 but trust me we are still here engaging in lifelong learning and creating many memories with each other daily.
In February this year I was contacted by Family Daycare Australia and asked if they could come and visit Little Hideaway, and look at the service and environment we provide for our Little Hideaway Babes, and take some photos for their upcoming magazine and online advertising to show families just what family daycare is all about and I think they captured it perfectly. They say pictures say a thousand words and they really do speak for themselves and the environment we have created here at Little H.
.
So here are some little snippets of our time on camera. These are only a few of the selected photos as we have over 200 but it captures our Little Hideaway environment perfectly and the endless amounts of fun, love and laughter we have each day we are all here together 🤍

G A R D E N I N G 🥕🌽🍓
As the weather warms up we are hoping to grow a variety of veggies, herbs and flowers in the garden.
The children were very excited to help out with the sowing process where they had to fill trays with soil, poke holes and sprinkle seeds.
Together we looked at the differences between all the seeds; they were black or white, tiny or big, round or tear drop shaped and smooth or bumpy.
Gardening is a fantastic way for us to connect with nature and teaches the children how to nurture, explore their senses, practice motor development and learn about the lifecycle of plants.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a virus that causes respiratory infections. We are currently seeing a high numbers of cases in young children, especially in childcare centres. There is no vaccine for RSV.

RSV symptoms are usually mild and in most cases of RSV the body’s immune system will fight off the infection and you can safely look after your child at home.

RSV symptoms to look out for in your child:
• Runny nose
• Cough
• Sneezing
• Fever
• Wheezing
• Shortness of breath
• Irritability
• Poor feeding

RSV can cause a chest infection called bronchiolitis. This week, 695 children aged 0-4 years old presented to emergency departments across NSW with bronchiolitis – 41% of these children had to be admitted to hospital.

If you are concerned, contact your doctor. You can also call Healthdirect on 1800 022 222 for free 24 hour health advice or speak to your local pharmacist.

If your child’s symptoms are severe, visit your local Emergency Department or call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

•Mud Play encourages creativity in children. It can also be soothing and relaxing, providing an outlet for children to express their feelings through their senses and exploration.

• It is important that children have uninterrupted time to play with mud imaginatively outdoors and experience nature. This facilitates opportunities for them to problem solve, come up with and explore ideas and exercise their minds!

• Mud Play is important for children to develop and practice their fine and gross motor skills, increase awareness of their senses, particularly touch, improve hand/ eye coordination and develop their social and emotional skills, including taking turns and leading/following directions.

• Through Mud Play, children develop a sense of self and belonging of their place in the world around them. Being in and around nature provides children with opportunities to explore nature, ground themselves and learn to care for the environment and the world around them.

• Mud Play is not focused on making or producing something with instruction and rules. It is about the process, not the product. This is what makes Mud Play so enjoyable for children, they are free from pressures of ‘getting it right’ or risking it not being ‘perfect’, it is learning to play and playing to learn free from restrictions with maximum benefit.

R a i n y D a y P l a y ☔️🌧

Weather is often seen as a perceived barrier to going outside to play and explore the outdoors. It’s easy for us as parents to say “we are going to stay indoors today because of the rain, or it’s too cold to go outside today”. But why do we stop it? is it because we ourselves as adults don’t want to get wet? Or be out in the cold? The learning that takes place outdoors exploring Mother Nature is endless, regardless of the weather.

Today we chose not to let the rain keep us indoors, instead we excitedly headed out to jump in all the puddles, feel the raindrops as they fell from the sky and touched our skin.

The children had an incredible time investigating concepts such as volume, capacity, cause and effect and measurement while also further developing their critical thinking skills and appropiate risk taking as they maneuvered their way around slippery surfaces, felt the rain as it fell from the sky and dropped upon their skin, watched as the rain drops fell from the undercover area and created puddles in the grass as well as in the wheelbarrows and buckets.

Don’t let the weather stop you from the incredible learning experiences that could be explored and created 💧
