MEMORIAL SERVICE - MARK HEANLY
A Memorial Service to remember Mark's life will be held on Saturday the 3rd of December at 11.00 am. 64 Ollerton Drive, Owens Gap
Coach from the 1988 premeirship winning 1st Grade side Bruce Wilson has asked to share the following about Mark Heanly. Please continue to share your memories of Mark with the greater Seahorse community. If you have any photos we would love to see them too. WWβ€οΈππ΄.
Vale Mark Heanly
Along with everyone who knew Mark Uni Rugby is devastated to learn of the accident that has taken his life. He was a man who committed himself totally to whatever he took on whether it be his family and profession or community and sporting activities. It was particularly in sport where we at Newcastle Uni Rugby best knew him.
Mark came to the Uni rugby straight from school and immediately impressed as an enthusiastic and skilful young player. Arriving in the mid eighties, a period when the Club was very strong in all grades, it is a tribute to Mark that he made us even stronger through his dedication, capabilities and willingness to go the extra mile both on and off the field.
Mark was the oldest of a talented quartet of Heanly brothers. Paul, Stephen and James soon joined Mark and each them made a considerable contribution to the University Rugby Club as players, administrators and latterly as alumni supporters. Mark was a member of the 1988 minor and major premiership team along with Paul. They were later joined by Stephen in some very good first grade sides. The four brothers even combined with their father Peter in the same team for a historic university game.
Mark was a strong and mobile player. He played most frequently in the second row where his strength, technical skills and high work rate were invaluable. His presence in a scrum or maul made the difference between us gaining or losing the ball and he never gave in, striving to the last for the team.
In all aspect of his life Mark was one of the best. He will be sorely missed by all.
#77 Bruce Wilson - Coach
It is with much sadness that UoNRUC shares the news of the passing of Mark Heanly #723.
Mark has tragically passed away whilst cycling with friends on Saturday near Scone.
Mark played 125 games for the University and was part of the 1988 premiership winning 1st Grade team. He was a player that you always wanted by your side when going into the hardest of contests and battles.
Mark is pictured below catching a lineout, with Blythy and Tony Hogg in the background.
The second photo is of Bernie Curran, Mum Hilary, Dad Peter, brothers Steve, James, Paul and Mark.
Our thoughts and love go out to the Heanly family during this difficult time.
Information regarding Mark's funeral will be shared once it has been confirmed.
Vale Mark Heanly.
