INTERGENERATIONAL PLAY
Intergenerational play is a wonderful way to engage with your loved ones living with dementia.
Being around young children can remind someone of positive memories of their own childhood or when they were a young parent themselves.
The impact is profound and in some cases, individuals who have previously struggled to speak can start forming sentences!
Young children don't see dementia, they see the person.
Come with activities or toys that the individual can use to play with the child so they can engage in meaningful play!

PETS AS THERAPY
My Mum loved dogs all her life, and in her later years living with dementia, our family dog Gizmo was a huge source of comfort to her. There have been many benefits shown for pet therapy for people living with dementia including increased willingness to take part in activities and reduced depression and anxiety.

One of the most commonly asked questions we get asked here at DOTS is how did we begin?
The answer lies in this picture.
For us, dementia care is personal. This is picture of me, Adelle, with my mum who I cared for throughout her 10 year dementia journey up until she passed away in 2019.
In those ten years, we laughed together, cried together and did everything in our power to give her life as much meaning as possible.
Using my knowledge and expertise as an Occupational Therapist combined with our lived experience as carers is what sets DOTS apart.
We've been there. We've walked that road.
Now, let us walk it with you and guide the way.
