Did you know that the dates for National Reconciliation Week stay the same every year because they commemorate two major milestones in the journey?

The milestones include the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision which is marked today on June 3, Mabo Day.

Mabo Day commemorates Mer Island man Eddie Koiki Mabo and his successful efforts to overturn the legal fiction of terra nullius, or ‘land belonging to no-one’.

**Content warning for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers – this post has material related to the Stolen Generations and forced removal of children from families and communities**
Today is a day of great significance being both National Sorry Day and the day that the Uluru Statement from the Heart was delivered back in 2017.

CREATE acknowledges the strength of survivors of the Stolen Generations and also recognises the ongoing injustices reflected in the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in out-of-home care today.

The journey to healing continues and today, CREATE is reflecting on what we can do to support the healing process. Find out more at https://www.reconciliation.org.au/national-sorry-day-2020/

“The best connection event!” 🦋🌳🍄

CREATE in SA recently hosted a connection event with Nature Play SA packed with activities including cubby house building, potion and clay and face mask making, water painting and kite flying. 🪁

The children and young people had an amazing time choosing what activities they wanted to do and deciding how to do them. One of the young people even got to see a Kookaburra for the first time - how cool is that!? 💜

All the young people who attended walked away with new skills that they can use in their backyards, local parks or national parks.

CREATE looks forward to running future events with Jason and his innovative team at Nature Play SA. Thank you!
