Recognising accessible businesses – The Colony Of Midland☕

The Colony of Midland is a charming café in the heart of Midland and they pride themselves on their accessibility, which draws in customers of all ages and abilities.

In partnership with the City and Amber from Wheelie Good Perth, they conducted an accessibility review.

The suggestions made from the review were mostly achievable and made a big difference in improving their access.

While some changes were out of the business' control, they were pleased to see things like moving cutlery and condiments to an accessible height having a great impact on their customers.

✈️Don't panic.... it's just a holiday.✈️

Well it is coming up to the 4 year anniversary of The Colony as you know it, and its been a slog. My family have sacrificed so much to allow me to pursue my dreams of owning my own business. And now it's time for us to enjoy a break together. This week we will be jetting of to visit family we haven't seen in the UK for some time with a few adventures in Europe for good measure.

However when ever I'm not at work the first thing people say is..... "oh, we didn't see you, so thought you had sold". And that rumour breaks my heart.

I can assure you that is not happening. We will REMAIN OPEN AS PER USUAL and Team Colony will be on board each and every day to deliver the same service you know and love while I'm away.

We did decide that any rumour is better than the rumour I sold so I will be giving away a meal for 2 people for the best rumour started.... go on, get creative.

So far I have:
▪️ taken a sabbatical to join the circus as a tight rope walker
▪️ been brain washed and joined a cult
▪️ gone to jail

Winner will be announced on my return. Until then I appreciate all the on going support. We would be nothing without it. See you all on the flip side.

Well one customer overheard amd said if it's not it should be so we tried it. And the verdict is good

So we are not calling it a special and it will probably never reach the menu but as you know we love a secret menu item.

It really pains me that I even have to say this.

But to anyone that thinks they are above showing respect to my staff, think they can raise thier voice and think they can physically push another customer is welcome not to visit.

My team as amazing and work very hard to provide the best service. But I will not tolerate this behaviour. I hope that this person was just having an off day and wishes they had behaviour differently. Upsetting people who are just doing thier job is not on.

Our newspaper has been going walkies in the morning and today we got to meet the lovely chap who has been helping himself.
