Try,try and try again!
For some ,things might take long to work out, whereas for others it can be as easy as a pie.
My journey to Magic Macarons has never been an easy one.
After almost 30 failures, and still attempting to get the perfect ones, I have had my worst days.
Your road to success is never a straight path.
There could be speed bumps, red lights, diversion, flat tyres and what not.
But the most important thing is, no matter how rough your path is,you need to set up a clear destination.
To all those who are struggling to achieve their little dreams like me,my only advice is, believe in yourself!
Set up a vision, dream big and most importantly, love what you are doing.
You will get there!
Good luck to everyone!
P.S. Still in the process of learning to achieve the perfect Macarons! :-)

It's 40 degrees out there!! 🌞
All you need is a refreshing Lemonade!!😋
Oh!!!! My journey on Macarons has been an interesting one!🙃
My first attempt at making one was on my little one's 6th Birthday(detailed in my earlier 'Moody Macarons' post).
Since then, after many many attempts, only to be disappointed, every time as I never got it working CONSISTENTLY😥
Year 2020, due to COVID, like everyone else around the world , I too was experimenting on food... trying various dishes, post status on whatsapp, and enjoyed those little pleasures when people complimented😊
In between these food experiments, I never failed to go back and try my Macarons, hoping someday it might work🤷♀️
Some days I would wake up early before everyone, just to make this cookie, only to hide from my FIL😬, because I thought probably he was tired of seeing my Macarons fail every time🤣
But whenever it fails, he would assure me, "What if it fails, it surely tastes good, and thats what matters!"🙃
Patiently, keeping my head cool, and few inspirational words from well-wishers, I kept going on without giving up🏃♀️
And today, Iam happy and content that I have transformed Moody Macarons into Magic Macarons😊..
So here I introduce you all to view my Page on Instagram, "Magic Macarons"..
https://www.instagram.com/p/CK398LVDf1C/?igshid=73tcp2ojoy77
In my Moody Macarons post earlier, I had written..
"I am still waiting for the day when I rename these Moody Macarons to Magic Macarons as I would like to call them, when I start to make perfect ones..
And that day is not far away..."
Well! That day has finally come🙃
All I want to say is, Never ever give up!!♥️
What do you visualize when one says Plumcake??
Christmas? Santa Claus?
Well, It is for many out there(especially for those from Southern India), but for me, it reminds me of my aunt's giveaway travel delight😊
Yes! My dear Aunt is MY Santa😉
Now, what is this giveaway travel delight?
My dear aunt, who is more like my mother and my bestie, has always been kind enough to bake this rich decadent plum cake, for anyone from our family who travels back after our vacation, as a token of love😍
Unfortunately, due to food quarantine restrictions in Australia, I wasn't fortunate to carry her plum cake back with me every time😞. But of course, when anyone else who travels from my family, I wouldn't miss to get my share if I am around🙄
Whenever Christmas is around the corner, it brings back my childhood memories of the lovely Christmas carols and Secret Santa played among friends at school♥️. Also miss those bright stars that were hung outside the houses in our neighbourhood, and the coloured icing cakes from next door🍰, but most importantly……….. I miss my Aunt and her delicious plum cake.
So this year, since we are stuck at home due to the pandemic, I decided to make things which I miss eating back home during my vacation😊.
And plum cake topped the list.
Since I was the unlucky one not having a chance to carry the travel delight back with me, I was left with no other option but to bake my own cake and make myself lucky🤭
Hence, a few days ago, I messaged my aunt for the recipe and bought all the necessary ingredients, and baked the cake excitedly, having happy thoughts in my mind that I am just few minutes away, to taste my dear aunt’s plum cake💃.
Phew!! one down the food craving list 😬, and it did taste almost like hers😍
So, if you missed something in life, like say, even the food from your loved ones, don’t sulk..just go get it!!!😎
So what are you waiting for?
Go, get your apron ON and start cooookingggg..😉
In Ratatouille, when I heard ‘As Gusteau says, "Anybody can cook"’, I thought how true is that and how I completely fit into it😜
M***aMala(literally meaning Egg Garland), made with just 2 ingredients, egg and sugar, is a classic authentic dessert in my hometown Thalassery. Though a dessert, It is popularly seen in most of the Malabar weddings served as a starter, eaten before Alisa(a cracked wheat chicken porridge) and Biryani.
A dessert served as a starter? Quite interesting isn't it?🙂
Due to its complexity and technicality, according to many, cooking M***aMala is the epitome of Malabar cooking and when one is successful in making this M***aMala, then you are mastered it all🤣😆. That’s how significant this M***aMala is!😜
Rewinding years back, just a week before my wedding, times when I needed a GPS to direct me into kitchen😄, my relatives and family assured me not to panic when I have any guests coming over to visit me after wedding🙃
Some even gave me tips to serve TANG (an instant flavoured powdered drink) for guests when they pay a visit, since that is the easiest possible drink that can be made where nothing could go wrong😅😜
Not to blame them, but my cooking skills were absolutely zero or even minus at the time🤓
But slowly and steadily, over the years I developed an interest and passion towards cooking and have been trying out quite a few interesting cuisines😍
Today, I’m glad, the relatives who consoled me to serve Tang to guests, ping me for M***aMala recipe😜😎
Well, Now THAT reminds me of Gusteau's lines, "Anybody can cook!!!"🙂😛
So people.. If I can cook, so can you!!, but only when seasoned with abundant amount of love and passion!🥰😍
My sister once asked me, how do I come up with new recipes on dinner parties??🤔
Do I randomly google for dinner party ideas or do I get inspired when someone serves me some yummy food??
Well, it is the latter..🙂
When I taste a dish which completely fascinated me at restaurants, I get back home that day, google for that dish which wowed my taste buds. I try creating a closer version🙂, not to forget!! save it in my lonely whatsapp group😜 (Checkout my Almond meal cake post to know how to create a lonely whatsapp group) and serve them on one of my dinner parties..
That’s how a new dish is born in my kitchen!🙃
Having said that, one such dish is this Prawn sesame toast.
Few years ago, me and my few other CRAZY friends 🤪 decided to throw a surprise party for a dear friend of ours for her birthday.. or should I say, we just jump at any opportunity to celebrate and have fun! that’s us!!😆
Since, eating out is the topmost favourite thing to do among our friends, we decided to take her to a Thai restaurant, Bua Siam, an authentic(at least for us 🙃) Thai joint in Perth.
Trust me, the hot and crispy sesame prawn toast served with sweet chilly sauce, an entree on their menu, is a must try and not to be missed when you visit this place..😋😋
Soon, in a few days, I managed to find a delicious prawn toast recipe online from Marias kitchen and tried them out. Guess what? Since then I’ve served them on many occasions, and my guests loved them and they were always a hit..🙃
So here, I will share my homemade version of prawn toast to you guys, only because its soooooo good and definitely worth trying..
After all sharing is caring!!❣️

Carrot Halwa!!
This dessert reminds me of my Dad's Lions club meetings.
Doesn't make sense right?🤔
Let me explain!
Ok, so what's with this Lions club?
My dad was a proud member of the Lions Club International, a world renowned social organization. He was so fond of this organization, that he took us to his quarterly social get togethers, hosted at some of Chennai's big star hotels in order to attend meetings.
As much as he was excited to attend these get togethers, I did not enjoy attending them😒
The first few hours of the meeting was spent by members talking about their accomplishments or discussing agendas for upcoming events. Meanwhile, I would be living in my dreamworld😇, perhaps a classic AR Rahman song running repeatedly in my head😜. After few hours of pretending to listen to the speakers, trying hard not to sleep🥱, suddenly, I would sense the aroma of authentic Indian food, filling room😍
Phew!! That is a sign that the meeting is about to end soon and hooraaay, dinner will be served😋 Now, that's the only part I love about attending these Lions Club meetings. FOOD...❤️
I would literally wait for the moment when the President would hit the gong and say those golden words "The meeting is adjourned for dinner", that I would rush to the food counter as fast as I could😅
During these get togethers, well at least most of the times, the dessert served was Gajar ka halwa🥕. Those warm Carrot halwa served with icecream and crushed pistachios, often drizzled with chocolate syrup was a treat to tastebuds😋
Today, the ghajar ka halwa I make at home is quite a crowd pleaser at parties(I guess?🤔)..I make a point to serve this halwa warm topped with icecream exactly the same way I used to have back then ..
Had it not been my beloved dad or his Lions club, I wouldn't have tasted those heavenly halwas.
And perhaps today I wouldn't have loved making gajar ka halwa from the bottom of my heart!!♥️
Miss u Papa!
This recipe is one such recipe where I dont go by measures.
Grate carrots(as needed)in a grater or food processor .
In a nonstick pan, put the grated carrots along with milk (pour until the grated carrots are fully immersed in milk).
Add condensed milk, sugar (balance sweetness with half condensed milk and half sugar), lots of ghee, cardamom powder(as per taste) and a pinch of salt.
Now in low heat, keep stirring the mixture until milk reduces and carrots are cooked.
Throughout the process, care should be taken not to burn the bottom of the pan.
It is a slow process, but trust me ,the more patient you are, the better the outcome is!
Turn it off once the milk is totally reduced and carrots are cooked. Look for the shine.
Serve hot carrot halwa with vanilla icecream and pistachios .
Well..Today, I'd like to share my Eid stories and how my kids get to re-live my childhood☺️
Its a week past Eid al-Adha, and I know I'm late in writing this post😶
Having lived in a joint family, I've been fortunate to have the best Uncles and fun loving Aunts, with whom I've spent the craziest childhood time🤪
I recall, On the Eid eve, my sister gets busy preparing Henna for all ,awaiting for a big Mehendi night filled with fun and laughter until midnight😘
On the Eid day ,my cousins and I , get decked up in new clothes, ready for a ride to pay family visits with my Dad and Uncles, whereas Mum and Aunts gets busy in kitchen preparing the big feast for noon😋🍗
Whether it is Eid, or a Sunday, or even if we have guests to show around the city of Chennai, our evening visits has always been to the one and only Marina Beach😅
Yes! Over the years it has become our family tradition to visit this beach literally every Sunday evenings , and its no different on Eid day as well😆😆
But with our fun loving Aunts and cousins , every place we go was beautiful😘
My childhood was filled with so much laughter and fun that I wanted to re-create the same for my kids as well🙃
Alhamdulillah, here in Perth, we celebrate Eid every year with some amazing friends who are more like a family where my kids look upon them as Aunts and cousins the same way I looked upon when I was a kid♥️
This Eid for our 'Family' gathering in Perth, I made this beautiful Spanish decadent, Tres Leches, carved into a crescent and a star, to bring the theme of Eid🌙⭐️🕌
The whole idea of making this crescent-shaped dessert was totally inspired from my cousin ,a Dubai-based home baker,https://www.facebook.com/SweetSideUpCakes/, who made this pretty awesome Kunafe(Arabic dessert) shaped like a crescent last year♥️
Since then, my search for crescent-shaped dessert began😝. My initial thoughts was to recreate a traditional North Kerala dessert(M***a mala/Golden garland) in this form, but since time being my biggest enemy, or rather I should say me being lazy than blaming lack of time😜, I shortcut into this beautiful light dessert,Tres Leches, a cake soaked in three kinds of milk😋
Its a simple recipe which can be tried using different flavours..
Visit this link to find the recipe.
https://savoryandsweetfood.com/2019/06/01/pistachio-milk-cake-pistachio-tres-leches/
Hopefully, next Eid I will come up with a challenging crescent-shaped M***a mala😜..In sha allah!
Watch out this space!!
Eid Mubarak !!!🌙⭐️♥️
How many of you knew that today is World Emoji day❓
Few weeks back, when I was meddling with my phone, I happen to find these emojis in my archives.I kept staring at this picture for a while ,and anxiously, the next thing I did was search up for “World Emoji day”😁. And to my surprise, it falls on 17th of July🙂
So today i decided to pen down few words about what I love about these emojis rather than taking you down to my nostalgic food stories🙂..
This was iced up for my little one, Drama Queen, who is in no short of expressions🤪, for her school party few years back. Pardon me for a not-so- good click back then!🙄
As much as I enjoy using these emojis, I had immense pleasure icing them too😍
In this era of emojis , how could I possibly not have fun icing them?🤷♀️
The fun about emojis is that we could literally express our feelings not trying too hard enough through this little yellow kiddo🙂
For many people out there like me, who is not really expressive in reality, or find it hard to show up their emotions, this is a tool wherein you could express what you feel about anything and everything, and I’m totally enjoying it using them!😍😘😀🤪😎
But amidst all this, what I noticed is my dear hubby, no matter in real life or in social media, has always been using only one standard default emoji........
And that’s..😐
Any wives having similar thoughts 😄❓
Beware of treating me delicacies!🙂
Never treat me something which is extraordinarily tasty. Ask me why? I keep making them repeatedly, to the extent, that if it had eyes and mouth, it will plead me to stop making them any more😬
Whenever I taste a dish pleasing my tastebuds, I never fail to take down the recipe from the creator into my personal whatsapp group named "Recipe", a happening group😄, which has only 1 member, and thats me😜..hehe..(no more old-fashioned brown book), you see we need to adapt latest technologies😜
Wondering how to create this so called 1 member whatsapp "group"😬😂
Step 1: Open whatsapp, create group
Step 2: Name your group
Step 3: Add your husband as a participant
Step 4: Very next minute, kick your husband out of the group!😉
Your lonely whatsapp group is created..😅
Technical stuff aside,😶
Off late, or say from past year and a half, there's this one dish which I consistently refer from my personal recipe group.
And that dish is none other than my all time favourite Almond cake.(I know, every dish I make is my all time favourite😬😛)
I totally blame Shahitha, a beautiful soul, inside and out🥰, who made a terrible "sweet" mistake by bringing this "oh-so-delish" cake to a picnic.
All I remember was she pulled out 3 big trays from her car, only to be left with crumbs in a jiffy.Thats how tasty it was!!😋
From that very day, whether she makes them quite often or not, I would have made them atleast around 50 times till date🙃
Also, I have made sure that this cake has reached many people I met, for any occasion, either a party or an evening hangout with friends at the park or beaches, or even someone coming over to our place to visit us, its always been the one and only - "Almond cake".
Three main reasons why I adore this cake:-
1) Of course, it tastes heavenly good🤷♀️
2) Its gluten free.( Look who is talking about healthy option🤭)
3) It is made with just 4 ingredients😳..Yes! You read it right! Just 4!
Today, I would like to reach this recipe out to many people out there.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSIp5XLLkuE
Trust me, its soo good that you cannot stop yourself from making them over and FOREVER..Just like me!!🙃
I guarantee!!🙂
This post is for all my C.S.I Bain School mates out there!!😘
We all have our own beautiful and unforgettable childhood memories, don't we?
Personally, the best part of my life has always been my Bain school days😍. If you ask me what happened last week, the chances are that I wouldn’t remember😬, but believe it or not, I can go on and on about each grade, starting from Kindergarten…. to the extent, that my school stories have become my kids bedtime stories😅
Me and my bestie, Dharita, apart from being best buddies, also share a secret bond with food😘
We were Samosa partners in crime!!!😎🤣
I still remember how we waited patiently, looking at our watch, desperate to strike 10 am🧐, for our 10 minute morning break, only to rush down to the canteen, wait in the long queue, to eat 'D' best Punjabi Samosas I've ever tasted in my life😍😋(trust me). I’m sure Bain School girls can totally relate to it.
The best part was, the two of us, would eat as fast as we could before our other friends would arrive, worrying we might have to share a bite with them😬 (looking back now, we were such mean girls😈).
Our love for these samosas were absolutely crazy, that there were days where we even borrowed money from our classmates during our class, by passing around the note which read, "Could you please lend few bucks for Samosas?"🤭, pretending to listen to boring History sessions😉, until we collected all the money needed to buy samosas by 10 am🙃 (Shameless, we were). yeah…yeah...We settled all their accounts, I guess!!🤨, Didn't we Dharita?
Well, who knew after all these years, today I could make quite a close version of the samosas I used to have back then?🙂
Today, when I make them at home, I don't really address them as "Punjabi Samosas", I've rechristened them as "Bain school samosas"😆. That's how tasty it was!! I wonder if they still sell them at the school??🤨 Something to find out in my next vacation to Chennai!!😎
To find this jam packed flavoured samosa recipe, please visit https://youtu.be/UnXtpV9s7IA, you will find my video on how to make Punjabi samosas step by step with exact measures🥰.
Any Indian out there who hasn’t tried making Gulab Jamoons❓❓
Errrr… Mee…😬😬
I’m quite surprised that in my 12 years(well, actually 13 this year🙃) of wedlock with culinary, it never occurred to me to make this so popular Indian Dessert🤷♀️
Can you believe it??😳
Well, when I say I’ve never made them, it implies to have never done from scratch.
I recall, during our early years of marriage, you know, the times when we do our trial and errors In kitchen, I had made them quite a few times with store-bought readymade packs.
Being a person who always finds the harder way to cook anything and everything from scratch (I know, I ain’t a smart cook😬),I wonder as to why didn’t I ever think of making such a simple dessert?🤔
Perhaps, has it never been my favourite❓ Or did I miss eating them whilst chit-chatting with relatives during weddings😜❓ Or maybe none impressed me serving the best homemade jamoons🤔❓
Well! To me, I think I would agree with the last.
Only a year ago, Sana, my dear friend, totally fascinated me with her delicious, perfectly round, right textured, homemade jamoons while we were invited over to her place.
Not only did I enjoy, but my whole family loved them😋😍
And the best part is ,it is so easy to make and hardly takes less than an hour to prepare them😎
It was only then I asked myself, ”Gosh! Why dint I ever make them all these years?"🤷♀️
Well! The answer to it could be, perhaps I had to wait until I was fed Sana’s perfect Gulab Jamoons😋?
Having said that, today, I would like to share Sana’s recipe, which is MY personal favourite🙂
Serves: 6
INGREDIENTS:
Milk powder - 1 cup/250 ml
All-purpose flour - 3 and half tbsp.
Baking powder - 1 tsp
Butter - ½ tbsp, melted
1 egg
Milk-1 tbsp
Vegetable oil, for frying
Few drops of lemon juice
Method:
*Combine milk powder, flour and baking powder in a bowl and mix well.
*In a separate bowl, whisk egg and melted butter together.
*Add egg/butter mixture and milk to dry ingredients and knead them well to make a dough.
*Divide the dough into 12 smooth balls.
*In medium heat, deep fry the balls in two batches until golden brown. Care should be taken not to over fry them.
*Meanwhile, for the sugar syrup, add 2 cups of sugar to 1 cup of water with a pinch of cardamom powder and vanilla essence, with some drops of lemon juice, and reduce it for about 7-8 minutes.
*Now, add the fried balls to the warm sugar syrup and close it with a lid.
*Let them sit in the syrup for atleast half an hour to get the right texture and consistency.
*Enjoy warm gulab jamoons with scoops of icecream
Tip:
*Roll the balls with a touch of milk, in order to prevent cracks. In this way, you end up getting the right texture when fried.
*Adding 1 tbsp of ghee to oil while frying, gives that extra richness to your dessert.
Nothing can beat the taste of my Mum’s Prawn Pathiri..♥️♥️
Until my wedding, I’ve had ZERO percent experience in kitchen. I remember those days, where, even to switch off my gas stove top was a huge task.
I felt a sense of panic/wake up call, I say, only after my engagement. I started to wonder how am I even gonna make a cup of chai after marriage?
So I started taking down recipes one by one from my mum and sister in my BROWN diary until the big day😎.I still remember the day I took down notes for a complicated recipe, my sis asked with a grin, ”Are you sure you want to take this down?”😬
From making basic sambhar (Indian lentil gravy) to traditional recipes, I wrote one by one, not missing even a single step. You should see, my sambhar recipe itself is a chapter😆
Now after the big day, in a week, we flew to Dubai. I would forget anything, but definitely not this brown book treasure of mine😛
Now, because I wrote down recipes eyes closed even without standing by my mum’s side when she prepared them, I’ve been following them word by word from the brown book all these years, especially those traditional ones🤷♀️
It was not until recently when Mum stayed with me in Perth, I watched her closely making Prawn Pathiri with few changes from what I knew from the brown book🧐🤔
Ahaaa...Now that explains how my Prawn Pathiri tasted different from hers all these years☺️
And before I could forget my mum’s version of recipe, I quickly ran into my kitchen, pulled my fourth draw and took my 12 years old BROWN book to make changes😅. Yes, I still have it and wouldn’t throw away as it was my first cooking mentor👩🍳
Guess it will be passed on to the next generations...😜
This Women’s day, I would like to share my mum’s recipe, because every mum has a signature dish which is unique and special , and one such dish is my Mum’s Prawn Pathiri...😋😍

Who doesn’t love Churros??♥️
Well!! I’m not sure about others, but I certainly do!!
A chocolate fanatic like me enjoys taking a drive to San Churros(a dessert destination in Perth) quite often, or rather I would say whenever I feel overjoyed, in fact chocolate actually makes me happy, you see🙂( A lame excuse to have more chocolates😉).
I’d often argue with my husband saying chocolates are the best stress busters and he wouldn’t agree with me. Chocolate lovers out there certainly understand me 🤷♀️
So to avoid the frequent visits to San churros, I decided to make a homemade version of churros, so that I could make and enjoy them at my own space, at any time of the day!!!(Somebody stop meee!!! 😁…In Jim Carey’s voice😁)
Not to be compared with San Churros, but definitely my churros are worth adding to your recipe note.
It’s so easy to make and I’m sure your kids would absolutely adore them, just like my kids do.
Well! Guess who is a big fan of Churros now?❓
Yes! U said it right! None other than my non-chocoholic husband!! 😉
Follow the recipe step by step to make this to-die-for dessert😋
