The Garden Family Medical Clinic
We aim to make care better by being inclusive, comprehensive & caring🪴
I think we can all collectively agree that Summer in Australia is HOT!☀️
While it’s good to:
🔆 Get that source of Vitamin D
🍉 Make the most of the fruit and veggies in season
🏖️ Visit the beach and go in the pool
lts important to remember to stay SUN SAFE🧴
Skin cancer is the third most common cancer in Australians. The majority of skin cancers are caused by exposure to the sun and accounts for around 80% of all newly diagnosed cancers!
Remember to:
🫵🏼 Slip on some sun-protective clothing
🧢 Slap on a hat
🧴 Slop on broad spectrum sunscreen
🧐 Seek shade
🕶️ Slide on some UV protection sunglasses
(Be extra cautious in the middle of the day when UV levels are most intense)
If you notice any:
• Crusty, non-healing sores,
• Small lumps that are red, pale or pearly in colour,
• New spots, freckles or any moles changing in colour, shape or thickness over a period of weeks to months.
Then book for a Skin Check via the link in our bio or by calling the clinic on 6186 7992🪴

This caption contains talk about su***de, please do not read if you find this content upsetting or triggering in any way.
The following information has been taken from the World Health Organisation.
• More than 700 000 people die due to su***de every year. For each su***de, there are likely more than 20 su***de attempts.
• There are many more people who attempt su***de. A prior su***de attempt is an important risk factor for su***de in the general population.
• Su***de was the fourth leading cause of death among 15–29-year-olds, globally in 2019.
• Seventy-seven per cent of global su***des occur in low- and middle-income countries.
According to AIHW, males have consistently higher rates of su***de than females, in 2021 there were three times as many su***des in males then there were females. Although males are more likely to die by su***de, females are hospitalised for intentional self-harm (with and without suicidal intent) almost twice as frequently as males. Furthermore, ambulance attendance data reporting on attendances for su***de attempts between 2018 and 2020 suggest females are more likely to attempt su***de than males.
While the link between su***de and mental disorders and a previous su***de attempt is well established, particularly in high-income settings, many su***des happen impulsively in moments of crisis. Further risk factors include experience of loss, loneliness, discrimination, a relationship break-up, financial problems, chronic pain and illness, violence, abuse, and conflict or other humanitarian emergencies.
Su***des and su***de attempts have a ripple effect that impacts families, friends, colleagues, communities and societies. Su***des are preventable.
An intervention proven to be effective:
Early identify, assess, manage and follow up anyone who is affected by suicidal behaviours.
Everyone is fighting a battle, whether they act like it or not. Be there for those around you, most importantly be there for yourself.
Remember to be kind, show support, encourage people to speak up, and most importantly - check in.🪴
We are so excited to welcome Dr Elyne Fontana to The Garden Team🪴
🌟Here is some information about our newest arrival:
Hi, my name is Elyne Fontana and I usually go by El. I was born and raised in WA and live with my husband (also a GP) and our two young daughters. I completed my medical degree in 2012 at the University of Notre Dame after having worked for a few years as a Registered Nurse prior to this. I spent five years working rurally in Albany WA, where I completed my Fellowship for General Practice, and have otherwise worked in Perth metropolitan areas.
My love for all things medical has been with me since I was a child. These days I’ve focused that love on all aspects of General Practice including Women’s and children’s health, Chronic disease management, Preventative health, and minor procedures such as skin excisions and Implanon insertion and removal. My other passion is Emergency Medicine and I also work part time in the Emergency department at Peel Health Campus.
Outside of work I love being with my family and being Mum to our gorgeous girls. We love reading together, cooking together and playing family basketball. I also love to run, garden and be involved in our local church community and my girls school community.
I look forward to meeting new and regular patients at The Garden Family Medical Clinic and working with the team and patients to promote the best health and well-being for each patient.
